Encounter at McDonalds
by jws inso i was helping some friends move and it came time for a break, i took my kids to mcdonalds.
we're sitting there and there's a family across from us, man, wife, 2 kids under 4. in the next booth is this older guy, maybe late 60's.. i'm not really paying attention, but then this older guy says something to the family about everybody being "me-first" these days.
so that caught my ear.

does anyone remember the book--was it back in the 60's:-?--
"THINGS IN WHICH IT IS IMPOSSIBLE FOR GOD TO LIE "
it was a sort of swamp-green colour
it became known as the "things" book---or-- ( tongue in cheek )--the "impossible" book.
but--it begged the question---which things DID god lie about then--?

Effect of family life (me, wife and young boy) if I am df / da and wife zealous jw
by Daniel1555 ini have a question and hope to hear some experiences of you who went or are going through this situation:.
actually for several reasons (blood policy, disfellowshipping policy and some more) my conscience is telling me quite strongly, that i should not anymore be a part of that organization.. my wife and even elders know about my doubts (except blood policy).
however i continue to join the meetings actually just to please my wife and to be together with our baby boy.

my zealous born in wife--of 13 years---was just waiting for an excuse to divorce me--and i provided the perfect get-out clause. she then went on to poison my kids against me--which led to then shunning me for over 25 years--except for one son--who got d/f'd and now is in regular contact with me. his mother--sister--and kid brother now shun him.
just one more happy watchtower screwed-up family.

Please Share one of your Favourite Quotations
by cofty inhave you ever come across words that resonate with you?
it doesn't have to be a great gem of wisdom, just something that is meaningful to you.. please share, and if you want to, tell us why it's meaningful to you.. here is something that made me nod when i first read it.... .
"fortunate are those who have learned to see, in the wild things of nature, something to be loved, something to be wondered at, something to be reverenced, for they have found the key to a never-failing source of recreation and refreshment".

"aaah--stick it up your arse"
seems a good way of bringing an argument to an end.

i enjoy "aunticonnie'"s threads---but i'm sure its a clever wind up.
for what its worth --my 92 year old jw dad is still very much alive and kicking--and has never shunned me in all the years ive been an ex-jw... he knows i dont believe in god--and accepts it. he is in a care home now--and i visit him twice a week. the bruvvers might visit once a month. his jw born-in daughter in law--my ex wife--has visited him once--in 8 months. she lives half a mile away.
his granddaughter--a fourth generation born in--lives with her mother--and has not been near him at all.
what a screwed up religion.

We cant control our urges
by moley inwhen i was about 15 i was made to go on the service with a super dub pioneer sister (you know the type, ugly with no dress sense and a wimp of a husband) and as it was the school holidays it was an all dayer (suit and tie in blazing hot sunshine) and she wanted to go back to her place for lunch, she made me sit in the garden while she ate inside as we could'nt be alone together because we might commit immorality (i would have rather cut it off).
has anyone else come across such stupid thinking within the borg.. p.s.
on the plus i side i got sunstroke in the afternoon, passed out cold.

when i was 16--a group of us went out in service on a saturday morning. afterwards--a 17 year old sister invited me back to her mum's house for a coffee.
mum was out.
the 17 year old performed a striptease--to Ravels Bolero.
she was very good.
i hope i never forget it.
