but at least Christians are embarrassed by their violent history NOT proud of it.
The majority of Muslims are not proud of the violence perpetrated by these extremists either. Islam, like Christianity it has different off shoots, and each off shoot has their own interpretation of their scriptures. Islam, Christianity and Judaism all have the same foundation as Abrahamic based religions. There are Muslims who take the good stuff from the Q'uran and try to live good lives and dismiss the violence contained within it, just like alot of Christians do today. But then you also have groups of fundamental and extreme muslims and christians who would just love to drag the world back to the dark ages and put everyone under barbaric laws.
The issues are about humans' treatment of other humans.
I love that statement. That's what it boils down to. I don't give a crap if someone believes their book is holy or from some god... the moment you let what is written in it dictate how you see and treat other human beings, you have lost your humanity, regardless of what religion you belong to.

Why The Similarity In Myths? Jungian View Of The Unconscious
by frankiespeakin inmyths?
i know to some that is a dirty word, especially if it is being said about something that they believe in.. i'm sure many here have seen that internet movie call zeitgeist about all the similarities in the jesus myth and other myths, what accounts for this sharing of themes found in myths all over the world?
even in peoples that are very remote from one another?.

I think it was in Mankinds Search for God book, they had a table with cultures around the world and their similar myths and stories. At the time of course I didn't question the WTS answer to why they are similar.
However, there is a very good explainantion for why different cultures have similar myths. I'll just take one example, that being of the flood. Any thinking person knows that there never was a global flood. However, if you consider the fact that most societies throughout history lived along stretches of water, whether it be oceans or rivers etc. Today we know about hurricanes, cylcones, tsunamis, earthquakes, but ancient cultures only had very limited knowledge of these things, and they can occur just about everywhere as a result of violent storms, so it is only natural that all these people will have stories about great floods with only a few survivors.
Plus I think at a basic level, human beings a extremely similar, and ancient people were no different. They all tried to explain the sun, moon, stars, birth, death, disease, nature all in their culturally distinctive ways. So it's no wonder there are similar stories in different parts of the world, because, people have always tried to explain things they didn't understand with stories.
That's just my 2 bob worth anyway.

Oh my goodness. This guy doesn't know anything about his religion except whatever has maybe been spoonfed. I just had a look. He said he had never even heard of the date 1919.
As the years progress, JW's seem to be getting dumber and dumber. Each new generation of them are becoming even more ignorant than the last.

Good video OTWO. I remember at the last convention I went to 4 years ago here in Perth, they actually discussed sex between married couples from the stage. I was quite amused by them discussin role playing, kinky fetishes (not in detail), and of course oral and anal sex. I recall hearing these things at the kingdom hall quite often, but this was the first time I'd heard them discuss it at a convention. Even though, I personally found it amusing, I do feel it is totally innapropriate to discuss these things around young children.
I also can understand why some people would be hesitant in labelling them a cult, possibly because when we think of cults, we think of Jim Jones, David Koresh etc. But it reminded me of a conversation I'd had with an elder and another family. We were discussing armageddon, and I asked them how they thought Jehovah would protect his people so they are killed in the chaos of it all. Their reply was, that perhaps there would be an announcement at the hall, asking for all Jehovahs Witnesses around to world to leave their homes and congregate into one location or congregate into one location in their respective countries.
To them, it didn't seem unreasonable that if the governing body told them to leave their homes, they would. Just like any other cult leader having that much power over people, that they would blindly do whatever they say.

JWoods...that's my point. I'm not saying we should allow any religion to make a holy war on anyone. All I was pointing out is that, like in the case of Christianity, it was brutal in it's infancy and adolescence but has now been put in it's place for the most part by society and governments. But it has taken a very long time for that to happen.
I definitely do not condone any violence perpetrated by religious beliefs, or any beliefs for that matter unless under legitimate self defence. The way Islamic extremists are viewed today by non-muslims is most likely how christianity was viewed by non christians, when it held the power of life and death over people.
Early societies were very superstitious and the church could use that to its advantage. It can't do that anymore as it doesn't have the power it once did. Islamic Extremists are now doing what the early church did for over 1500 years, but now we are at a point in our society that this kind of religious terror is no longer tolerated.
I wasn't condoning their actions at all, simply the irony of it all. I'm sorry if you misunderstood what I was meaning.

Are you serious? What kind of Christianity encourages suicide bombing and terrorism as a religious rite? What kind of Christianity would not denounce any nutjob member who did such things?
Yeah I'm serious. Christianity spread itself throughout the world using terror. In order to prove your 'love' for god, you had to be willing to kill for him if the church told you to. There was no individual belief tolerated outside the church. If you weren't christian you were of the devil and they had no problems in killing anyone who opposed them. Don't even dare gloss over the history of christianity and it's blood guilt.
Again, are you serious??? Just let this mayhem go on for a couple thousand years and see what happens?
Once again, you seem to have no knowledge of history. Christianity was barbaric in its treatment of people. As societies evolved and it's power weakened, their inhumane treatment of non-christians was now not tolerated by societies and governments at large.
I'm not at all saying I agree with it, but it's quite hypocritical for christianity to be up in arms at what Islam does, when that's the exact same way they spread themselves in the world. Just because a thousand or so years goes by, doesn't erase how they spread their word of god through terror.
Talk about hypocritical.

I find the Islamic Extremists are doing the exact same thing Christianity did in order to spread throughout the world. They terrorised people to convert under threat of torture and death. Islam today just has more sophisticated weapons at their disposal. Alot of their violence and intolerant views are no different to the violence and intolerance of Christianity. It's basically arguing which is the lesser of two evils.
Christianity as a religion today is nothing like it was when the church and bible was established as an authority. Give Islam a couple of thousand years also and it too won't even resemble what it is today.
