My son was murdered today
by truman ini have been on this site daily, almost from its beginning, since i left the jws in 2001, but i have been more of a reader than a poster, as you can see from my post count.
i know few here know me, although i know many of you through reading your posts.
maybe it is not right to ask for support, when i generally stay quietly in the background of this forum, but i want only to speak a human misery of the deepest kind.

My Partner and I have been together for 10 years today!
by ohiocowboy ini am very proud that we have been together for 10 years!
being raised a jw, it was always hard for me to find a long term relationship.
most people that i met weren't interested in anything long term, and each time one ended, it left me feeling like i would never find someone who shared the same feelings.

Congratulations on 10 years together. That's quite an accomplishment. I hope you remain this happy for the rest of your lives.

Atheism or Agnosticism, which one is correct?
by Joey Jo-Jo inthis has been bugging me for a while, and while i dont want to turn this into something about semantics i think that we should quickly define what an agnostic and atheists are.. richard dawkins defines 7 different types of atheist ranging from weak to militant atheists, but along these definitions there appears one definition with a strong resemblance to agnosticism.. to me an agnostic is a person who neither believes nor disbelieves in deity/deities, but there are those who define agnostics as a ignorant who simply just don't care or don't have the intelligence to come to sound conclusion.. an atheist can be a person who disbelieves in a deity/deities based on the current mathematical and scientific understandings of the universe, as well as understandings that can refute certain religions such as the strong influence of protestantism christianity in america.. .
from here i will refer deity as anything ranging jehovah to a real spaghetti monster, it's not important because a) we dont know b)for the purpose of this discussion it is not important to define what we believe god to be.. an argument that can be used about a deity is -we cannot prove nor disprove that god exists- this is referred to as a null hypothesis, an assumption that we cannot create a hypothesis to prove or disprove this deity.
this to me is agnosticism and is more correct than the idea of atheism.

Atheism or Agnosticism, which one is correct?
That was your question. They both are depending on your view on each of their definitions which both have various. How's that.
Hardly anyone uses these words in their original meanings, afterall if we did, we would all be atheists as we don't worship the greek gods and very few of us would be agnostic as most people who worship a god claim to know said god.
That's why these debates go back and forth with nothing really happening, because the english language sucks. Most words in english have more than one definition which is why no one is really wrong and everyone can be correct even though they don't agree.
At the end of the day I have no problem if someone wants to label me atheist or agnostic or agnostic atheist, I couldn't give two hoots. I have no positive belief in a diety and I generally leave it at that. That's why I said earlier I don't usually get into these debates because they go nowhere because of our language.
It's like debating whether House or Home, which one is correct? To some people, their house is their home, or their home is a house, or a unit, villa, caravan, tent, cave, or they might even define a person as home. No one is wrong and everyone is correct because of the various definitions of the word.

yadda yadda 2, ......learn how to comprehend. There's nothing fallacious in asking someone if they believe something. People do it all the time. Do you believe in fairies? Do you believe in aliens? Do you believe in god? Do you believe in magic?
Asking someone if they believe something is different to asking someone if they know something. How hard is it to understand? I have never in my entire life ever been asked "is there a god?", the first question most people ask is if you believe in god.
Obviously you can't seem to comprehend the difference between asking and answering a belief based question and knowledge based question.Get a dictionary.
