JW Careers - Meter Reading??
by rrb2016 ini remember in the 70's and 80's the big jw career was pin striping...in addition to the regular careers like janitorial and window washing.
now i hear the big career is meter reading in the pacific northwest.

What Are Some Musical Groups And/Or Songs That Everybody Liked But You?
by minimus ini never loved the beatles.
i especially didn't care all that much for john lennon.. bob dylan, i never got his appeal!.
any songs that just didn't do anything for you?.

Never understood the attraction with the Beatles. I think it may be more their style, because I do like some of their songs when they're arrangements are altered and sung by someone else.
One song I cannot stand at all was the Give a Little Bit song from the Gap commercials. I was in the USA 10 years ago and stuck in Lousianna in the sticks for nearly 2 months and everytime commercials came on, a Gap commercial was there with that irritating song.

Why some cults may be healthy
by Mr Facts infor your information, not all cults are destructive as may be generally assumed.
as a therapist, i will list the folowing points as reasons why some cults may be healthy, especially the jw organisation.. 1) their stand on material prosperity shields their members from unnecessary worries of life.
their constant emphasis on simple life prevents you from entering into debt-imposed problems safeguarding you from the possibilities of sleepless night, financial stress and the rest .. 2) their behavioural control mechanism helps to constantly keep your lives in checks and balance by injecting sanity into your conscious being.. 3) reporting you deviant thoughts, feelings, and actions to leaders helps to coordinate your life and brings it in conformity to impeccable manners(the desire of every sane human mammal).. 4) their extensive use of cult generated information and propaganda constantly triggers your consciousness for the need to do things right (a positive reinforcement).. 5) their ethical use of confession makes you see that the universe cares for you and you are not alone in the grand scheme of things.. 6) their loaded languages offers you feelings of belonging, which we all aspire in a secluded and socially quarantined world.. .

Be careful. You're showing how crazy the JW religion is by trying to defend it for everyone to see.
Good job...it's one way to keep people out of a cult. Show them the crazy while they can still think rationally. -

Good news, finally regarding my ex-elder-pedophile-father-in-law...
by misguided inabout two weeks ago he was arested in bc, about 35 years too late thanks to wts cover-up.. he had a baby with my ex-husband's sister - my kids have a cousin who is also their aunt.
this was all covered up by moving from ontario to bc back in the early 1980s, and it all being hidden by the wts; even allowing this guy to serve as an elder after the fact...when i got married to my ex, his father was an elder, and the baby of the incest was 15. .
today and from now on, hopefully things will unravell for the wts in canada, as he sits in jail in ontario (where the crimes were committed)charged on 24 counts of sexual abuse.. i hope there is a lot of embarrassment going on in that congregation in ladner, bc when all this originally came to light about 28 years ago, the congregation that let this man become an elder...because, my own parents seem to be in "cover-my-ass" mode when it comes to talking about this matter with me..

It's always great news when someone get punished for the vile crimes they commit.
Hopefully someone in prison will make him his new girlfriend. -

The Path to FREEDOM
by SweetBabyCheezits ini realize i peddle carl sagan like christians peddle jesus but i think every one of us who has survived the watchtower, regardless of our current beliefs, should be able to appreciate this.
in the path to freedom (chapter from one of his books), sagan was discussing frederick (bailey) douglass's life in the early 19th century and his quest for literal freedom.
see if anything here sounds familiar:.

Are exJW's not entitled to quote or interpret scriptures in minds of Christians that were never JW's?
by tootired2care inthis is one that i've been struggling with since i started hanging out here.
when you get on a thread and quote a scripture with a comment to make a point, the believers who have never been jw's often knee jerk reaction jump all over it, and in essensce say that you cannot understand the passage because you are not a believer like them.. it's as if they are saying what is written and what you have learned about certain passages are automatically wrong just because you were taught from a jw perspective, or that you lack basic reading comprehension.
i agree many of the jw teachings are off, but i can certainly respect more of their interpretations of scriptures than i can of other christian denominations.

Facts and logic are completely disregarded.
That pretty much sums it up. I'll follow discussions that end up in scripture slinging, but I usually don't participate. No matter what anyone says or claims, the fact remains that when it comes to the bible, it all boils down to personal opinion.
That's why it's called the big book of multiple choice.I refuse to quote any scripture to validate anything I say, because it's all nonsense. Even a murderer could use the bible to validate their actions if they chose to.
When discussions using scriptures to make points come up, like you said, facts and logic are completely disregarded.

Can i defend my Faith?
by mrbunyrabit inso i thought ill check to see how "strong" the things are i believe in.
im still hooked to allot of the wts's teachings, and i still believe in allot of them , even thought i have enough questions of my own to start my own bible school.. so what would you ask me as a "witness" now, so i can try and defend my faith and by doing so, that i might learn something about myself, and what i believe in..

3) Why should i believe in a God who today talkes to us thought the bible, and a hand full of chosen ones who we cant see, and makes errors themselves. Where in the olden days, theres was Moses, Miracles, scrolls, And fireworks to say the least. What now, why doesnt he do that any more? Its not his will any more? why ?
The stories of creation, the flood, Abraham, Moses, Exodus from Egypt, Miracles etc were written about a thousand years or so after these events supposedly took place. The reason they could get away with writing such fantastical stories is that people didn't have the tools to verify if they were true plus the shared ignorance of the world they lived in. Also the fact that their nation was so insignificant, weak and constantly under the rule of other nations, that their leaders and priests maybe felt they needed to give their people an identity to retain some form of unity and control.
So by the time these stories were written, the area known as Israel today, had been influenced by myths from other nations that had held control over that region. He doesn't do them anymore, because they didn't happen in the first place.

I'm with cantleave on this...go to www.jwfacts.com. Then I would suggest you research the bible and how and when it was written and then edited and put together. After that, maybe go to www.talkorigins.org. You may not believe in evolution and may still believe in a global flood (which never happened and has been proven), but it is a scientific theory just like gravity.
Beliefs that are not based on what can be deomonstrated as true, are pointless to everyone else except for the person who believes it.
So go have a look at www.jwfacts.com, then research the bible itself from independent scholars and archaelogists, then take a look at www.talkorigins.org and if you still believe in any of the teachings of the Watchtower Org, then I'm afraid no one would be able to help you until something very personal happened to you within the org to piss you off enough that the blinders started to fall away without you realising it.
At the end of the day you cannot defend the indefensible. You can argue a case for it, but it cannot be defended logically or rationally.
