Pretty much what most said. Only if asked directly or if they are talking directly to me under the assumption I believe in a god, then I would say something. I respect their right to hold their beliefs, but I have no respect for their beliefs, so unless I want to run the risk of offending someone, I usually just sit quietly if at all possible. Like NC I don't mix with religious people, or if they are religous, they never talk about it.

Question for you atheists...
by MrFreeze inor agnostics too.
are you open about your beliefs (or lack thereof i should say)?
when people talk about anything religious, do you mention that you don't believe in god?

Does anyone here dream about demons?
by not bitter ini do, every few months and the dreams are terrifying.
i had one last night and the demons grabbed me as usual and instead of shouting out big j's name like i usually do in these dreams (not out loud mind you) i shouted instead ''get away from me satan'' ha!.
i don't believe in either but obviously my fear of demons growing up as affected my subconscious into adulthood (i'm 40).

The only demon dreams I had were when I was the demon in my dream.
I did use to dream frequently about Jason Vorhees though. He was after me for years. -

Should actually point out that he didn't call the people who walked out pansy ass. All he said was how pansy assed some people react when we push back, referring to when people use the bible to beat down others, they don't like it when the beaten down push back.
If someone wants to take that personally, that's their problem.Him using the term bullshit may have offended some people, but there was nothing else that could be labelled offensive in the rest of it unless you are actually one of the people who like to beat down others with what the bible says and then react all pansy assed when they justifiably push back.
Anyone who uses the bible for any valid argument against another person is just an ignorant bigot who doesn't deserve to be taken seriously.

They just said at the WT study that the wife needs to suck it up in a abusive home.
by life is to short ini was beyond shocked at this i do not know why i am shocked and i am shaking as i type this.
i decided to tie in by the phone line today, i live on the west coast and they are only on paragraph 3 yet a "brother" who had been an elder for years and who's wife left him years ago he is in his late 50's now just commented about selma and he said 'that later in the study it talks about a study who's husband was abusive physically and verbally, yet when the study complained the sister studying with her reminded her of who was the christian and the study realized that she was in the wrong and so her husband came in the truth.
' he said it is such a good example of how we should be.. i truly feel like throwing up.

I'm not surprised by the article itself, as we've all heard this dribble before. I am surprised they are still being so blunt and open about it, considering domestic violence is slowly becoming less tolerable in society, especially here in Australia. It still has a long way to go for sure, but with each new generation that comes along, things slowly start to change. Not fast enough unfortunately for a lot of people.
Domestic violence is still the number one threat to a womans life and physical and emotional wellbeing under the age of 45.

NC, I heard the same thing as I brought up once to my study conductor about my first stepfather as we were discussing separating and divorce, and he said the same about being able to separate if you felt your life was in danger.
I was only 14 at the time and I thought it was just stupid that she could leave if her life was in danger, but couldn't divorce and move on with her life. She had to still stay married to the prick and hope he cheated on her so she could divorce without threat of disfellowshipping. When I read things like this, it makes me realise how many things I disagreed with growing up in this religion yet still believed it to be the truth as far as god, armageddon, new system etc.
I too hope at least some will read this article and it will play on their minds. I'm sure anyone who just rocked up to the hall out of curiosity would be appalled by it.

NC thats' terrible. This kind of topic makes my blood boil, especially when people don't take it seriously like the watchtower has done in this article.
This kind of article enables abuse to continue unpunished unless the someone is willing to break watchtower protocol and go to the police.I saw Reba McIntyre on Donahue many many years ago. I'm with her on her philosophy. She said, "If a man ever raised his hand to hit me, I'd be out of there. Even if he didn't hit me, he's shown me he has the potential to."

Wow mrquik, you got a 15 minute intermission.
When I was younger the sunday meetings were a full 2 hours with no intermission. Song-Prayer-Public Talk-Song-Watchtower-Song-Prayer then we can have a break. The only break kids got was the bathroom or if they were naughty got hauled into the back room or outside for a spanking. -

Celestial--obviously your stepmother was one of the lucky ones who took a gamble on a violent situation and things finally worked out. Most are not so lucky.
Personally I think if anyone stays with some who is violent is crazy to take the risk. My first stepfather was a violent drunk and the last straw for my mother was when he chased her with a machete threatening to kill her.
This article is extreme in it's stupid example. How many domestic violence incidents end up in murder. Staying with a violent partner you are risking your life as well as that of your children, if you have any. Here in Australia we have had so many wives end up dead at the hands of their husbands or partners, sometimes the childrens lives are spared, other times they are not.
Anyone who sugar coats domestic violence or even suggests it is sometimes better to stay with an abusive partner in order to see if things change is no better than the person doing the beating.

You said it. Just the thought of entering a kingdom hall and sitting through some pathetic talk makes me shudder.
Since leaving it's made me realise how stupid they keep everyone with their talks and infantile articles in the watchtower and awake. -

I've actually been holding off making any comments on this topic as it makes me boiling mad. It is really sickening that they actually advocate allowing someone to break the law and go unpunished.
I would love to see their reaction if the story was a little different.
Selma, 14 years old, was feeling a little sad and depressed and didn't really want to have her study because the bight before her father came into her room as she was studying the bible and raped her. When she told the sister of this, she was reminded that even Jesus told us to honour our father and our mother. After many more years, her father finally accepted a study and is now an elder in the local congregation.Rape is illegal. Domestic abuse (assualt) is illegal. This is nothing short of enabling a wife and/or child beater to get away with their crimes. If he assualted a woman on the street or in a restaurant or department store, the police would be called and he would be arrested, but for some reason they think it's okay for a wife to be assualted and then just basically told to suck it up.
I really hope they rot in their own filth.
Hope everyone has a nice day though.
