  What was your most DISTURBING event as an elder ? (Per T.O.S. no full names please).

  i'll start the ball rolling.

  dealing with kids in any type of judicial manner.

  i would do everything i could to get parents to "deal with it-kindly" at home.

  Investigating wrongdoing, grilling wrongdoers, reading scriptures that say the liar will not succeed. Asking young unmarried sisters personal questions and listening to old school elders probe these young sisters (what were you wearing, how did it feel, how many times, what did you touch). Seeing the smirks on their faces when the sister was excused while we reached our decision. The looks these guys would give the sisters for years spoke volumes on their dirty minds.

  Had a old-timer CO who wanted to know juicy details of cases and wanted to sit in on cases if he was visiting that week. Dirty old man!

  What is the stupidest comment you ever heard at a meeting?

  a very reliable friend told me this: the bro was commenting on what was "unacceptable" conduct in the bedroom between married persons.

  needless to say, he had everyone's attention.

  he went on to say "we must avoid perversions such as oral and annual sex.

  WT Society Appoints Elders/MS Based on " Functions " Performed - not ....

  ........... holy spirit or any " fruitages of the spirit " like love, kindness, mildness, meekness , etc.

  shown by men considered for elder or ms positions.

  qualities or true positive character traits are not that important to the wt society in appointments of these men in jw congregations.. no, the real " qualifications " that a jw man needs to exhibit is being able to report 10 hours a month in knocking on people's doors offering wt and awake magazines !

  It's a club! Every congregation is different, every CO is different and every body of elders are different. It's a game and if you play by their rules, standards and don't ruffle any feathers, you qualify. I have seen shocking things in how appointments get done, even seeing one old CO say for us as elders to write down exactly what we wanted in his report to get someone apptd or deleted. Directed by holy spirit? It is a different type of spirit and often it has 70 proof or wine, beer, monetary favors or looking the other way.

  Mentally ill brothers serve, illiterate ones serve, and up to a few years ago illegals served.

  Why aren't there background checks done? It is inexpensive and protects everyone. I challenge them to do this - it will never happen.

  Listening to new boy talk by N.H. Knorr my first day (after Mon. night WT study) at Brooklyn (don't touch it except to pee).

  Watching old-timers shuffle around and fight (argue, yell, cuss) with other old-timers.

  Parties that had so much booze, acid rock music, fighting - dismissals the next day.

  A new-boy who got sick, wasn't treated right and died of pneumonia - his family came out and were treated like royalty (avoided lawsuits).

  Bethel housekeepers snooping around in your room, busting you are out of line.

  whole blood is bad, blood fractions may be ok but not all.....wtf?

  charity project vrs jw project

  i have been doing several charity projects lately and weighed the differences between doing them and volunteering on jw projects.

  .

  1. jw projects - so many rules on what to wear, no creative personal input asked for, no real signs of true appreciation for giving efforts, general laziness of many volunteers, power & ego trips of overseers, no real recognition for sacrifices made.. 2. worldly events - recognition, true feelings expressed openly by many, creative expressions encouraged, no power struggles on who is in charge, free giving and acceptance of any effort given for the cause.. 3. the demonizing of the charity or project as worldly and worthless by the org / jw.. 4. slander, backbiting and gossip spread if any jw does any worldly charity work.. 5. my observation was that i felt refreshed, respected and yes - even loved more doing these projects a hundredfold more than over 40 years slaving on rbc, kh, bethel and other jw projects.. anyone else having exp or comments?.

  Is the Governing Body Guilty or not guilty of 1975 speculations going too far?

  the most disengenuous aspect of "official" pronouncements from the society can be identified.. it is in the positioning of the speaker/writer as a passive onlooker commenting on exterior happenings.. this bystander mode is clever by half.. why?

  it spoon feeds information without taking any active personal responsibility.. sort of an "oh gee, wow--look at all this going on" stance, while taking a stand-offish tone, is printed in the official magazines and books approved for publication by the governing body as mouthpiece of jehovah.. think about that.

  it is insidious incitement without responsibility.. the person (likely fred franz) who crafted these bulletins had gone through several previous incidents of failure and disappointment and was well aware of the effect of any speculations upon jehovah's witnesses in the past.. this makes what was printed all the more calculated and irresponsible in the extreme.. let us parse the language printed by the watchtower society with careful attention to what is said and left unsaid.. w68 8/15 p. 494 why are you looking forward to 1975?.

  All the blame goes to "some of the brothers" or "others".

  So, Brother Some or Brother Other is to blame for interpetation of the written article or heard the talk from a GB member or CO / DO and ran with it!

  Never, ever will the apology come from the real source with a true repentant attitude. If one of the R&F did this they would be DFd.
