Tech49 has the CO over for lunch

so awhile back, during our last circuit overseer visit, vic and i decided to bite the bullet.... there seemed to be very little support for the mid-week lunch plans for the co and his wife, so we signed up to host.

we definitely didnt want it to be awkward, so we invited a few others along, as a nice little group affair.

they were excited, and offered to do the cooking, so i said i would play along.. just some background.... this particular co is kind of a tool (big surprise right?

Hi Tech49, If the CO lives in the USA, you might want to send him the following link to how to qualify for Social Security: http://www.ssa.gov/pubs/EN-05-10035.pdf. The bottom line is that if he has not paid social security tax he is out-of-luck getting SSI.

How do you qualify for retirement benefits?

When you work and pay Social Security taxes, you earn
“credits” toward Social Security benefits.

The number of credits you need to get retirement benefits
depends on when you were born. If you were born in 1929
or later, you need 40 credits (10 years of work).

If you stop working before you have enough credits to
qualify for benefits, the credits will remain on your Social
Security record. If you return to work later on, you can
add more credits so that you qualify. We cannot pay any
retirement benefits until you have the required number
of credits.

Planting seeds of thought with my JW doctor

i have hesitated to post anything about my recent encounters with our jw doctor, because i don't really want anyone to insult her or me, for continuing to rely on her for medical care.

our family doctor is a jehovah's witness.

we were referred to her by our former bs conductor.

Hi Faithful Witness, Although it may not be any of your business to help your doctor to see TTATT, I feel that the way that you have handled yourself so far is very good. I do not feel that it is inappropriate to express your thoughts about the importance of family to you, the importance of doing independent research, and critically thinking for oneself to JWs. There is a big difference between helping someone to critically think for oneself and pushing ones religious beliefs on another person. Go for it with your doctor!

Non JW girl with a JW guy

i want to talk about my story because i need help and advice and most impirtant a lot of comfort.. one year and a half ago i met a wonderful guy.

he was really nice and supporyed me during hard moments.

i slowly fell in love with him.

Hi Accio, Practise, practise, practise being outgoing and projecting confidence. Most guys like women who smile, are positive, are fun to be around, ask guys questions as well as talk about themselves, and project confidence about themselves. Look around at women who you know who are popular and try to figure out what you would feel comfortable changing in your behavior/appearance.

A simple way to find out if this guy likes you, is to occasionally lightly touch him from his hand to his elbow momentarily when he says something funny or something that you like. If you do this several times in an encounter and he does not touch you back or draws away from you, you know that he is not interested in you.

Use the time that you have with this guy to get a better idea what you want in a BF or future husband. The better vision that you have of what you want in life: the better choices that you will make in the future.

Oh My God!!

yesterday after an awesome workout at the gym i was walking to the front door and i saw my former friend who is a "spiritually strong" (non-thinking) jw walking towards me talking with a trainer.

i thought she was either there on a job interview or was taking a tour of the facilities before joining.. i thought should i say hi, should i say nothing, would she acknowledge me, etc.

i decided to say hi to make sure that she remembered that i am a member of this gym, so that she would not feel uncomfortable it she accepted a job there or joined it.. the gym is about 20 miles from where she lived when i was friends with her, but is in a convenient location between where she was living and where she works.. i said "hi n" about five feet before me, no response.. i said "hi n" a little louder about five feet after they passed me.

@ cult classic, I do enjoy working out. On Superbowl Sunday I played tennis, worked out at the gym, bladded with a friend, and did 12-oz curls at Hooters. I consider that an awesome workout schedule. Too bad the Broncos lost, but the Seahawks were definately playing better and the Seahawks defense definately deserved the win.

I'm glad that you are able to seperate your feelings for JWs' cult and authentic personas, so that you can live freer from the WTBTS.

Has anyone used this question on a JW? How might they respond?

as i was laying in bed i thought of a question to ask my wife.

"when the wt has an article on the next change in teaching or new light, just guessing, what do you think it might be?".

it does not need to be phrased just like that, but i thought it might be a powerful question since it would make the jw subconsciously question all of the current teachings, something they are not taught to do.

Hi BU2B, Depending on how "Spiritually Strong" (non-thinking) your wife is, asking simple questions like yours or poppers' question is better than telling a JW about TTATT. If your wife is very "Spiritually Strong" (non-thinking), you should read the thread exJW Psychology 102--How to Ask a Question When Questions Aren't Allowed by Billy the Ex-Bethelite to rephrase your question.

I like poppers question because it might help you identify what bothers your wife's authentic persona the most about the WTBTS. The more you can help your wife's authentic persona overcome her cult persona the better.

To everyone who has responded on this thread thanks.

@ heathen, I have never been a JW so I wouldn't know. I do know that my former friend is a pilates instructor and she does not like to pressure her other clients with WTBTS material or accepting WTBTS "Bible Studies" (indoctrination sessions). I guess that just goes to prove that all JWs do not behave the same as the WTBTS's teaches JWs to say.

@ KateWild, You are welcomed. I hope that more people will learn to be polite to JWs to screw with their cult personas and hopefully help their authentic personas to one day overcome their cult personas. As the NAACP slogan states, "The Mind is a Terrible Thing to Waste."

@ Suspicious, Thanks for the WTBTS's analogy. I can see how someone without critical thinking skills/skeptism could easily fall into the WTBTS's convoluted logic. I wonder why my former friend did not shun her DF'ed son because she loved him too much? May be there is hope that her authentic persona will one day overcome her cult persona. I hope that my former friend will never shun her son and that her son will get help to overcome WTBTS's phobias.

Have you read Steve Hassan's books (i.e., "Combatting Cult Mind Control", "Releasing the Bonds: Empowering People to Think for Themselves", and (his latest book) "Freedom of Mind: Helping Loved Ones Leave Controlling Peopel, Cults and Beliefs"), visited his website www.freedomofmind.com, and/or watched his videos on his website. If you don't have a lot of time, you may want to watch the following video to understand more how the WTBTS's BITE control indoctrination can adversely affect a person emotionally: Strategic Interactive Approach explained 2003 (1:23:23).

@ losingit, How can a "Spiritually Strong" (non-thinking) JW, who is divorced and not free to remarry, and a single non-JW be in a romantic relationship? A Ménage à trois with a "Spiritually Strong" (non-thinking) JW, non-JW, and the WTBTS is not my idea of fun nor a romantic relationship. Of course, my former friend's authentic persona and I did want to become involved with each other initially.

@ jgnat, I agree with you that my former friend's cult persona can be a jerk, and at the same time I feel that my former friend's authentic persona is battling with her cult persona to find balance and happiness in her life. I'm glad that I read Steve Hassan's books, because it helped me to understand better what my friend is experiencing and not to feel frustration and anger at my former friend.

@ punkofnice, You are right that life is full of twists and turns!! If I did not like the authentic persona of my former friend, I would not have wasted my breath saying hi to her. Since I like to screw with cult personas of JWs, it makes no sense to be nice to them if their cult and authentic persona's are a$$ess. Life is precious and I'm glad that you realized that the WTBTS was wasting your life before it was too late.

Corruption of Hubby Continues...

Do you worry about your hubby backslidding? What would your hubby have to do for you to feel that he will never be a JW? As he read any of Steve Hassan's or Raymond Franz's books yet?

Disrupting literature carts

i am ready for a little guerilla warfare (no one gets hurt, of course).

but these literature carts in the city need to go.

everytime i walk by its all i can do to keep from knocking the thing over.. any ideas on how to destroy their little stash of paper.. so far my best idea is water, pouring water all over it.

Hi perfect1, DITTO what other posters have written about not damaging the carts/propaganda, about talking to the JWs and asking them simple questions to plant seeds of doubt, and attaching permanent QR code stickers to the propaganda or writing www.jwfacts.com, www.freedomofmind.com, or one of your favorite websites on the propaganda.

It is very simple to attach QR code stickers to propaganda. Walk up to the JWs. Engage them in conversation. When they offer to give you their propaganda, ask if you can give them something in return. It is easy to overcome their objections to accept religious information by saying it is not religious and it may save their lives. When they say yes, accept their propaganda. Write www.jwfacts.com, www.freedomofmind.com, or one of your favorite websites on the propaganda or attach a permanent QR code sticker to the proganda. Hand the propaganda back to the JW and say how the website saved your life after visiting it.

Another option is to talk with business owners where the carts are located about how they feel about the WTBTS carts. If they do not like the carts in front of their business, educate the owners that the WTBTS is a dangerous cult and show them a poster with a QR code to www.jwfacts.com, www.freedomofmind.com, or one of your favorite websites that you would like them to display near the carts in a prominate location. Thank the business owner for his help and suggest that he tells other business owners in the area about the WTBTS and how to encourage JWs to move the WTBTS carts.
