how do you wake up someone taken from us by these screwed up people?.

our son was hooked by a jw at the age of 25. within 3 months they were married and we never even new about it.

he is now 29 and has nothing to do with his family(except his sister the odd time, when he needs something) of any freinds.. we are lost and have been for four years.. .

If you are on a budget, you will need to do a lot of reading, practicing, asking for help on specific topics on JWN, and asking your son simple questions to help him critically think for himself. It will take time (years), but he may wake-up. The first step is spend as much time not taking about religion, but reconnecting with his authentic persona and asking how he feels.

Hi J-DUBBED, It sounds like your son's weakness is his daughter. Have you contacted your son's ex-girl friend and told her about cult-exit counselors such as Steve Hassan's methods for helping someone to critically think for themselves as well as not going off on tangents when feeling cognitive dissonance. At least send your grand-daughter's mother the following video by Steven Hassan so that she can help her daughter to critically think for herself: Strategic Interactive Approach explained 2003 (1:23:23) .

According to the Reveal News story, the WTBTS is the poster-child organization for revising the U.S. Tax Code for non-profit organizations to protect children from sexual abuse. I don't know how a judge would ever be fooled to believe that an individual's 1st Amendment rights also apply to an organization. People can think - organizations cannot! The WTBTS has used undue influence and BITE control techniques to manipulate and victimize JWs for decades.

Revise Tax Code to Protect Children from Sexual Abuse

over the last five years, i have read lots of threads complaining about the wtbts, but few threads about becoming involved to help jws to critically think for themselves so that they can decide whether to stay, change the wtbts, or fade.

i'm curious if anyone is willing to write to their political representatives like i did today?.

before someone writes that the bill that i wrote would infringe on rights of either the establishment or free excercise clause of the u.s. constitution, i already checked with a lawyer and she said that the concept sounds promising.

If you are interested, please ask Mr. Munoz Atkinson to send a rough-draft copy of a bill (~ 85% finished) with the following provisions to a Congressional staff member or legislative writer:

Insert a new sub-section in 26 U.S. Code § 501 to describe the criteria and process to suspend an organization's tax-exempt status, and would allow the IRS to charge all tax-exempt organizations a nominal annual fee (may be $10 to $50) to fund the effort. Applicable tax-exempt organizations would be required to ensure that applicable adults pass a criminal background check and complete sexual abuse awareness training, to promote to members and employees to report suspected violent felonies to local law enforcement, to prohibit using undue influence on members and employees, and to prohibit promoting bigotry, prejudice, and inciting hatred and civil unrest.
Amend 26 U.S. Code § 6033 to require that all tax-exempt organizations, including religious organizations that are currently exempt, to file annual reports and adds additional requirements about what to include in the annual reports.
Amend 26 U.S. Code § 6104 to require the Treasury to provide free access to applications for tax-exemption and annual reports through the internet. The Treasury would be prohibited from releasing personal contact information (not business contact information) through the internet.
Create Section 520 to allow taxing of funds transferred from/to non-compliant organizations to reduce funding to such organizations.

After reading the bill you will better understand how it will protect children from sexual abuse, prohibit promoting prejudice, bigotry, and hate-speech, and increase transparency and accountability by all tax-exempt organizations.

i have been with an in active jw for 6 years, she now wants to marry and have a child, will she want to bring a child up as a witness, she says not but any experiences?

will she start go back once we are married?

Hi stevepill,

As I wrote before, watch "To Verdener (Worlds Apart with English subtitles)" with her and just ask her if that is how many JWs behave. To Verdener is a Danish movie that is like a JW Romeo and Juliet. Drink some wine eat some snacks and enjoy a good movie. Don't ask her questions that she may feel will make her defend the WTBTS's doctrines. Just ask her if the movie represents how many JWs behave.

William Penwell - I know a lot of people over the years that have been inactive dubs for years but when push comes to shove they still believe in the BS.

DITTO!! It is easier for a JW to leave the WTBTS than it is to remove the indoctrination/phobias from a former JW.

i know a friend, who doesn't believe that the Bible is the Word of God, but that the WTBTS has the most fundamental understanding of it of all religions. Also, he will admit that the WTBTS's doctrines go beyond Scriptural interpretation on blood, birthdays, shunning, etc so would therefore be in conflict with De 4:1-2 and Mt 15:3-9. He is experiencing cognitive dissonance between the great memories he had as a JW and the realities of following the GB.

Within one minute JW with trolley directs me to JW.org

i live in relatively small seaside community (regional population around 45,000).

in my ten years here, i've had witnesses call on me perhaps twice (not special visits but during door-to-door).

whereas they once canvassed door-to-door much more frequently - and in larger size service groups - there is quite a decline in their door-knocking - at least in this region.. with the advent of the "trolley" work, their visibility has increased - but i'd estimate only marginally.

I saw two JW's sitting on folding quad chairs and talking to each other on either side of a book stand in the nice front patio-entrance area to a CA DMV office that faces West. All they needed was a few Mai Tais to simulate being on vacation.

I thought about stopping and saying hi, but decided against it. Part of me was thinking that the WTBTS was trying to recruit illegal immigrants trying to obtain drivers licenses and the other part of me was thinking that the illegal immigrants are too busy trying to make enough money to sent back to families at home to become involved with the WTBTS.

As long as JWs want to waste their time talking to each other instead of recruiting new members, I won't bother them until I see them trying to recruit someone.

Hi stevepill, Until your GF can critically think for herself, she will be susceptible to BITE control manipulation techniques. If your GF can watch the following videos and discuss what she feels with you, she may be able to critically think for herself: "To Verdener (Worlds Apart with English subtitles)", How Big is the Phenomenon of Undue Influence? (2:01), Strategic Interactive Approach explained 2003 (1:23:23).

If she can watch all three videos and talk about what she feels with you, your relationship may have a chance.

Putin needs an enemy to blame for all of Russians' problems. As long as Putin is willing to lie and Russians are too afraid to protest, nothing will change.

Western leaders should learn how to spin their rhetoric back to Russian citizens. Something like, "Why does the Kremlin spend $1M's to fly bombers into U.K. airspace, when it could spend $1M's to import better quality and less expensive buckwheat?" Dissident Russians could probably write better snippets that would appeal to Russian humor.

Although I don't like killing/wounding anyone, Western leaders/militarys should also investigate out how to arm Ukraine with preferably Russian anti-armor munitions or IEDs. If a few thousand Russian sons started returning to Russia in body- bags or maimed, Russian mothers might start to protest. I wonder if there is some way to use communication equipment, aerial surveillance, special operation tactics/training to steal munitions from Pro-Russian rebels, or buy munitions from Russians or former Soviet republics.

What I Saw & Heard in the Oral Argument Hearing on January 14, 2015

im not an attorney and i could not record the hearing, so please forgive me if i make mistakes in relating what i remember of the oral argument hearing for jane doe (i.e., candace conti) versus the watchtower bible & tract society on january 14, 2015 and the length of this post.. i arrived at the civic center/union plaza in san francisco, ca about 7:30. the area is very nice with a few homeless people sleeping in the park across from the courthouse.

it took me about 10 minutes to find the clerks office for the court on the first floor, which opened at 8:00.. once the clerks office opened, the two clerks who i talked with were very polite and helpful.

the arguments for jane doe (i.e., candace conti) versus the watchtower bible & tract society were scheduled 5th out of (i think) 8. while i was in the office a cameraman and another person for nbc arrived asking about the hearing for candace contis case.. the courtroom for the 1st appellate court is on the 4th floor and takes up most of that floor.

I'm very sure that Jon Williams said nonfeasance and not misfeasance in his oral arguments because he also stated that the WTBTS did not have a special relationship with the plaintiff - a lot of indirect evidence might disprove Jon Williams argument.

In my opinion both WTBTS lawyers said things to try to obscure the evidence/issues. I feel that the judges knew it too. I was disappointed that Rick Simons did not capitalize on what the WTBTS lawyers said and told the judges where in the brief to find the proof to disprove what the WTBTS lawyers said. Also, Rick Simons should have emphasized that the jurors believed the indirect evidence that was presented to them and discounted the testomony of WTBTS representatives to come to their verdict as demonstrated by awarding punitive damages of $20,000,001 [$1 bolded for emphasis] and assigning liability to the WTBTS that was double that of the local congregation.
