Why attack?

as someone brought up as a jw and been an elder and been disfellowshipped (twice!!!

) i find it difficult to understand why ex jws have to attack the religion, yes religion, not cult or sect.

i am no longer disfellowshipped just do not want to practice anymore.

Welcome newqatarjob, Would you classify yourself as a JW or ex-JW? I hope that you return to read many of the thoughtful replies to your thread.

DITTO what other posters wrote in response to your thread. Many former JWs are in various stages of grief and anger, so JWs/ex-JWs may perceive them as attacking the Watchtower because the Watchtower has victimized JWs with BITE control manipulation techniques. It may take decades of intensive counseling to remove the many layers of phobias created by the Watchtower.

Help! I'm drowning!

my wife and sons don't know how far i have gone in withdrawing from the organization in my heart.

i've been faking family worship.

i got angry and almost showed it while watching the march tv.org.

Welcome vinman, I'm sorry that you feel so alone. You are not alone and you do have options. You just have to initially deal with the confusion and stages of grief that you are feeling and then move on to making plans how to help your loved ones to start critically thinking for themselves.

Don't rush into telling JWs how you feel or what you learned until they tell you their doubts. Learn how to ask simple questions of JW family and friends to plant seeds of doubt in them and how to overcome thought-stopping platitudes that they say like "Where else would we go?"

Post how you feel on JWN so that you do not explode your feelings on your family and to learn what options that you may have. Is there a non-JW who you can talk to about your feelings? Can you afford to talk with a counselor?

Research the Watchtower's history and doctrines through reputable websites like www.jwfacts.com, www.watchtowerdocuments.com, and www.jwsurvey.com.

Have you read information by cult-exit counselors like Steven Hassan's books (i.e., "Combatting Cult Mind Control", "Releasing the Bonds: Empowering People to Think for Themselves", and (his latest book) "Freedom of Mind: Helping Loved Ones Leave Controlling People, Cults, and Beliefs), visited his website www.freedomofmind.com, and watched his videos like Strategic Interactive Approach explained 2003 (1:23:23)?

i am sick of being told this same crap after decades of suffering at the hands of wicked men and women, how many of you have had to fight these irrational expectations we are supposed to grin and smile when people are actively trying to screw with us and elders say .

good it is that one should wait, even silently, for the salvation of jehovah (lamentations 3:26; titus 2:13).

my life in the organization has not been entirely bad, there were many good people and plenty of jerks like you all experienced in this adventure we call life.

Hi DATA-DOG, I like the idea! I just wonder how many ex-JWs celebrities want to forget about being a JW. It seems that the WTBTS's mind manipulation adversely manipulates ex-JWs long after they leave the WTBTS.

I would like to get ordinary ex-JWs just to support political change. I have not been very successful at getting large enough numbers of ex-JWs/non-JWs to become involved to influence politicians to support a bill that I wrote about in the thread Revise Tax Code to Protect Children from Sexual Abuse. The bill would not infringe on an individual's Constitutional rights, but would protect children from sexual abuse as well as prevent non-profit organizations from using or promoting undue influence to its members.

It seems that protecting children from sexual abuse is not as interesting as what Kim Kardasian is doing.

i was in conversation a few weeks back with a jw i have known for at least four decades.

most of it was catching up on family stuff, he has loads of kids, some have married and produced sprogs since i left.

all news to me.. i demolished a couple of his fatuous arguments, and then he decided to scuttle away, throwing this over his shoulder as he went :.

"I don't need to research or debate these things, as the Governing Body has done that FOR me!"

As Outlaw showed it could be talking to a wall, but then again little seeds of doubt may some day grow.

If you said in a tone and body language of trying to help them with their sales pitch, how would JWs respond to the following:

"So, if the end is soooo soon and the need is so great, why would you bring reproach on the Watchtower by behaving like a hypocrite? If you ask non-JWs to keep an open mind then non-JWs will expect you to keep an open-mind and independently research the Watchtower using public news reports.
For instance, how do you plan to convince a non-JW that the Watchtower doesn't enable and protect pedophiles, when the Watchtower instructs JWs not to bring reproach on the Watchtower? Are you going to lie or deceive them? How would you feel if someone lied to you or tried to deceive you?
How would you explain away the recent Nightline news report [you will need to have it stored on your smartphone to snow at an appropriate time] to a non-JW? If you lie or try to deceive them, most non-JWs will do their own independent research and feel that the Watchtower is a dangerous cult because you lied to them."

How would your friend respond to, "Why are you convinced that my thinking is wrong? (wait for a response) If you will not independently research the Watchtower's history and doctrines and critically think for yourself,, how will you prove to the other 99.99% of people on Earth that they are wrong about the Watchtower being a dangerous cult?"
