Podo, we just established - and you agreed, by referring to 'pussyfooting' - that there are indeed suggestions in Scripture that Jesus could be God. If think you are honest enough to acknowledge that. There are many Scriptures which certainly could be seen as suggesting that Jesus is God (the repeated application to Jesus of OT Scriptures applied explicitly to Jehovah etc). I think you realize that. However, you just don't think they are strong enough - it's too much like 'pussyfooting' for you.

So, we are not talking about 'another gospel', we are talking about the possibility of spirit confirming and clarifying what was already suggested (even if in a veiled and indirect way) in Scripture. It's the same gospel, clarified by Spirit.

The application of Galations 1:8 wouldn't really be fair in that case, because the supposed difference would not actually be with Scripture, but with your present interpretation of Scripture. There's a big difference.

Do you see what I mean? Remember, w e're not yet even talking about the Trinity, we are just talking about possibilities, specifically the possibility that what is 'suggested' and 'hinted' at in a veiled way Scripture may be clarified and confirmed by Spirit with individual Christians, and that this may be what God intended. There are Scriptures which support this idea, as I'm sure you know.

Well, obviously, many Trinitarians feel that he and they did so clearly enough. But I take your point in that you are looking for massively explicit and repeated statements of this, rather than 'hints' and 'suggestions' or what you call 'pussyfooting around'.

However, I'm not sure that the belief that you base your position on is entirely legitimate, Scripturally speaking. It's a reasonable position - but is it Scriptural?

What I mean is, you have decided to believe that for something to be true, it must be explicitly stated in Scripture. But is that a valid belief? Is it really a valid basis for rejecting something? As a Christian, you must have a Scriptural basis for your belief, rather than your own human reasoning, so where is the Scriptural basis for the belief that something must be explicitly stated for it to be true, and could not merely be 'hinted' at or 'suggested' (however strongly)?

What is the Scriptural basis for rejecting the idea that there would be things that would in time be clarified and revealed by the spirit to individual Christians which would confirm what were perhaps left at slightly veiled hints, indications and suggestions in Scripture itself?

TimothyT, your dilemma depends on whether or not you believe that the Bible in it's entirety is the word of God.

It's not, and doesn't claim to be. The word of God is not a book and you are quite capable of using the spirit to discern which parts of the Bible are in harmony with the word of God and which are not - to 'test the inspired expressions' - because not all originate from the God of Love, as revealed by Jesus.

Fear tells you to worry that you may be unacceptable. Love tells you that you are accepted and loved.

If "God is love" then you work out which voice you should listen to.

In fact, it sounds like you've already done this, but don't yet have the courage of your convictions. You don't need to ask us, because we'll just deluge you with countless different opinions - just like this one

GB becoming more angry!

flipping through the wt and other artices it strikes me how angry the governing body is becoming and how they are using insulting words to describe anyone who "rocks the boat".. words such as diseased and vindictive are common place now and so petty.. it seems to me that these men may be allowing personal feelings to overcome their spiritual role that they are supposed to live by.. i have been out of the truth for 17 years and it is clear to me that they have lost the plot.. look at the generation flip flop.

why not just say, "brothers, we have no clue and therfore no clue about anything that has been taught".

assuming the role of jesus on earth is something no one should do as one look at corinthians clearly states that "gifts of prophesying would be done away with" in other words god said i will tell you not you me.. anyone else feel that the gb is angry?.

DJ, you are being absolutely eviscerated - and not for the first time. It's gratifying to watch.

Ann, magnificent job. DJ needs to be thoroughly engaged and his deceitful tactics exposed every so often. Then he tends to run away and lay low for a while, only coming back when he thinks everyone has forgotten what happened. It's like a periodic exorcism for this forum, it seems.

I see DjEggnogg is still lying through his teeth and imagining he's getting away with it - now regarding the WT fantasy of 607. I thought about replying in that thread but really, what's the point? I could never do as good a job of thoroughly refuting his ridiculous arguments or of exposing his deception on this subject as the likes of AnnOMaly are already doing. They are absolutely destroying him and he's too senseless/dishonest to even realize it or acknowledge it. True delusion.

So I thought I'd just resurrect this thread instead so any who haven't read it can see exactly how DJ operates and the levels he'll sink too rather than admit he was wrong about anything. I'd hate for anyone to be bamboozled by his torrent of deceitful crap and outright lies due to their imagining that he must somehow know what he's talking about because he speaks with such confidence (a bit like the WT, who are also full of self-confidence - and crap). This thread should shatter that illusion, if the 607 thread hasn't already.

I'm new to the whole JW religion - Can someone please explain the basics?

i recently began a wonderful relationship with a guy who also happened to be a jw.

i have learned alot about him and how the religion effects his life and now i am interested in learning more about the religion - but from a beginners' point of view.

could anyone give me an idea of the basic beliefs and practices of jws?.

Maze, why don't you tell him what the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society says about homosexuals and homosexuality before you send him to them?

Then tell him honestly what you think about it.

Then let him work out if you and they really have his best interests at heart.

of course jesus is important in the lives of jw's, but they worship jehovah!.

hence, are they christians or jehovians?.

They worship the Society as God, Jehovah is just a cover story.
