i'd like to get comments from people about whether and how much they were shocked, surprised, or otherwise bothered by the watchtower society's becoming an associated non-governmental organization (ngo).. note that i'd like to see these comments because they might lead to some interesting publicity, so please comment accordingly.. alanf

I'll tell you what I was shocked by - it was when I skimmed an Awake article in my mom's house that was all about what the U.N. was doing in Africa. I think it was probably circa 1999/2000 or so. I was going to ask my mom if the Society had changed its opinion on the UN being the image of the beast...but red wine was a better focus.

VERY ANGRY at jw for treating someone special to me/other women so bad

i think that the way jw treats women is absolutely terrible!!!!!

makes me want to confront them and give the powers that be a taste of the same medicine they dish out.

how can the be so cold and insensitive to treat another human being this way for any reason and try to justify with the words of the bible.

Dune - you are very young, I think, so we'll tolerate you somewhat. ;) Hey - just a question regarding what you said - can you please tell me why the Watchtower has never published a similar comparison to rutting men? Or perhaps you don't find it insulting to have you and your complex sexuality equated to a cow in heat? If you think that the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society is not anti-woman, I and many others, (who by the way are not ugly, hairy she-male men-haters), will beg to differ. *and we'll have the proof to back up our assertions*

this was influenced by the toy thread, but what were some of the foods, drinks and candy that were banned by the jws (either in writing or hearsay)?.

black forrest ham (coating is made from blood).

red skittles (blood used to make the dye).

good gawd...so many red flags... dear girl, you are much too young to think of marrying! I was a mature 19 year old not very long ago, and I cannot tell you how much I've changed in the few years hence...you will too. You're not just young in chronological years, you're young in real world years. You were raised in a cult, and that in itself makes it take so much longer to figure out the real YOU. Please take your time with this decision. You don't have to rush anything anymore remember? You are free!

interesting Leolaia...I was just about to post that my mom gave us kids black forest ham all the time when I was growing up...then a few years ago she said she wouldn't eat it anymore because the black ridges are actually blood. I just looked up a couple of web pages with info. on it and they both said that it is often dipped in beef blood. Guess mom was right about that one even if I did think she was out to lunch at the time she told me. har! Oh well...beef blood and I are friends...I just had a lovely, rarish steak on the bbq....and I had a whole wheat pita and black forest ham sandwich for lunch. I'm definitely doomed at H'Arma. ;)

It has to do with that scripture (in Timothy?) that a man must be able to preside over his own household before presiding over the congregation, or something to that effect. When my brother and one of his friends got into trouble with drugs, my father voluntarily stepped down as an elder, as he believed he should follow the aforementioned scriptural guideline. The friend's father, also an elder, fought tooth and nail, (including bribery), to maintain his "position". He was forcibly removed...that time anyway. There were other occasions where his bribery had its intended effect.

un biscuit...that's it so far and I've been buying a coffee every damn day! (not that that's any different from when the contest is not on. ..har!) and I totally agree kwin, that first brown cup after the promo is over is a real bummer.
