i was lucky not to be born into the jw's, so i had pretty much every toy i wanted .... actionman (g.i joe) with all the guns, tanks wonderful 2nd world war uniforms, toy soldiers cavalry, indians, cowboys, knights,castles and forts.. six million dollar man, lone ranger and tonto, toy cars matchbox captin scarlett, thunder birds, loads of guns to run around playing war.. great days.
(of course my sisters had dolls and prams, barbies cindys, play make up).
i know having spoken to jws born into it certain toys were of limits for some kids.. a good friend told me how he loved action man and played with them constantly, until one day he came home and saw them all by the door in a. card board box.. when he asked his mum what she was doing.. she told him "do you really think jehovah wants you to play war, you can keep one of them but he cant have any guns and fight people".
I usually bought the presents after xmas... on sale. Well you know how jw parents give gifts any old time, not just at holidays ...like the worldly people! lol
So anyway, not only were guns etc forbidden but even the "approved" toys were all sold out by boxing day!! The poor dears never got what they really wanted! God I feel awful about that. grrrrr

it seems that religion has always been considered the opium of the people.
or at least many tend to gravitate towards religion to have or solidify some sort of future with a supreme being overlooking them hoping to have a reward either in heaven or in the jehovah's witnesses case - living forever in a " paradise earth ".
it seems that people can't just live day to day and let each day come to them with whatever happens.

I'm starting to like living in the now instead of projecting into the future...it is very peaceful.
I like the open endedness of the future and the options out there. I want to decide the how's, the when's and the why's! I don't want to live commune style. Can you just imagine a 'new world' with a rule for every little thing & and severe punishment if you failed ...oh wait a minute, that's how jw's are today! Well it would be even worse.
Those who think they know the future are usually grandiose, ego driven and running scared in case they don't measure up and lose out on their fantasies.
I'll take one day at a time now .......it's not my job to know the future.

as a jw, i stood for god not being a trinity, creationism, no blood transfusions, 'wickedness' not being gods fault in any way, god would soon solve all the worlds problems by destroying it, etc.
i was thinking about what i stand for now, and it's not much, compared to when i was a jw.
i stand for my self respect, the middle class and i don't like seeing innocents being hurt.. s.

i was curious because i had heard simon was a jw when he started this forum.
i was looking through the old posts, but couldn't really pinpoint one that was a "turning point" so-to-speak.
simon must have left the j-dubs at some point.
Reading Simon's story again, after a year of being on here ... I am so much more appreciative of what Simon has amazingly acomplished. Along with Anghared, an oasis for the wounded has been created. Not only can we ask the question ... finally we can get the answers. We only need to ask.
Yes, I've said many times, that I wish this site had been around years ago. I probably would have miserably gone to my grave never KNOWING, without it. Believing that after 45 years, it was my lack of faith or my unworthyness that was killing me.

and my spouse is pissed... anyways, we slow boiled chicken to make soup and it was finished last night.
i could not find room in thr frig so i left it out... the good news is our house was around 55-60 degrees all day and night.

i am new to this site, just finding my way around.. i've been studying with jw's for about 15 months.
i'm an unbaptised publisher, and until recently never missed a meeting, have been out "on the service" quite a lot.
i've been having difficulties with one of the jw's studying with me and something happened which was just unacceptable.

If you want a religious cult that says Jesus Christ is NOT your mediator, & says that a few old men in New York are your mediators.....and you must not question this ...well then stay with them!

the most disengenuous aspect of "official" pronouncements from the society can be identified.. it is in the positioning of the speaker/writer as a passive onlooker commenting on exterior happenings.. this bystander mode is clever by half.. why?
it spoon feeds information without taking any active personal responsibility.. sort of an "oh gee, wow--look at all this going on" stance, while taking a stand-offish tone, is printed in the official magazines and books approved for publication by the governing body as mouthpiece of jehovah.. think about that.
it is insidious incitement without responsibility.. the person (likely fred franz) who crafted these bulletins had gone through several previous incidents of failure and disappointment and was well aware of the effect of any speculations upon jehovah's witnesses in the past.. this makes what was printed all the more calculated and irresponsible in the extreme.. let us parse the language printed by the watchtower society with careful attention to what is said and left unsaid.. w68 8/15 p. 494 why are you looking forward to 1975?.
