i am a long time lurker and still two footed.
i stay in for family reasons, i really do make a terrible witness only going to 50% of the meetings in a good month.
Quando, lol and welcome too, i am a 'newbie' too, bit diff to you as for years i was a two footer, now i just have had to admit my feelings for my own sanity... so i am a bad associate now!
Anyway glad you still get peace from reading your bible, i feel exactly the same. More peaceful than ever before... maybe its cus im beign blinded by this system of things???
its been a long time coming but i kinda think im finally at the point of no return....... right or wrong, i have spoken to my 'friends' about my new feelings and the fact i no longer believe that this is gods chosen people etc etc... and have already been told that if i was to now celebrate my childs birthdays , her 'truth' friends would not be able to come to sleep again and associate with her... (she is 7).
this is despite the fact they are allowed to play with there non witness friends who live down the road....why??
the explanation is that their daughter would perhaps feel it is ok to do this when it is not... i ask why could they not just simply explain it is not our family's belief anymore (as my husband is with me on my decision), and my response is that it would be difficult to do that as we once were witnesses and now are not so it would confuse her daughter and make her think its ok to do these things now... .
Thanks Carla, Its her birthday on Sunday (next), we are taking her out with a couple of her school friends for her birthday and spending next Saturday as a family with it being her first proper birthday. I am making her cake and cant wait to see her face... Its so exciting for her and for me to live what i didnt have at that age...
I am also letting her join a girls scout club with her friend from school,somthing i too always wanted to do when i was at school!
I still want her to grow up with morals and as a good person, and feel i will still bring her up with bible principles... but i am pleased to be away from the ridgid made up rules and princples of an organization.

Of course as a witness i have believed in the 'new heaven and new earth'.. ie, paradise for the righteous... heaven for the 'annointed 144000'... And a ressurection to life on earth for judgement for those asleep in death...so what now?

And yes i do get the picture absolutley, i guess alot of the bible has significance for us today, but ultimatley was written for those guys of the time.
And the counsel is as i said, good for us today, stop bickering and just get on with each other.

so i talk to christ and ask him to speak to God for me? i just curious as if i go to the figurative door and speak to Christ first, then how do i know that I have been granted access to talk to God?? Or am i correct in thinking that i do my talking to the Christ and he speaks to God for me and answers me directly?

ELDERS MANUALS???????????? I was brought up in the truth and am now 29 and have never heard of one of these....how interesting...whats all that about that we are not allowed to know whats in them etc.... What sort of stuff is this?

i've had some people in the congregation lately try to give me pep talks to encourage me not to give up.. when i mention (not to everyone of course) some of the things that bother me about the org, many times they can't come up with a legitimate answer so they make up an excuse.. for example, i mention the double standards that i saw at bethel as well as the lack of love in certain brothers.
i get a blank stare and then an, "oh, that's because jehovah allows imperfect in the org.
but he'll clear things up when it's time.".
oh yeah i forgot that bit!!! Ahemmm! Like the corruption in the congregation is needed to prove his sovereignty!.... Its all soooo WRONG!

crisis of concience...i am in a similar position to you at moment and recently, people have been trying to convince me its the 'truth'!
When simply making the point that the fundamental teaching Jesus said would mark true followers of him, that of having love amoungst themselves is completely flawed when you see brother bob taking a massive stance against brother brown for not being as spritually strong as him, the only answer i get is, its just the way it goes.... Jehovah will sort out these individuals eventually..... I wonder why it takes soooo long tho for certain things to come out...why is it left to go on and on and on before Jehovah steps in to sort it out?

All your comments are very good and just confirm what i actually already did think.
Funny how once upon a time i would have stayed well clear from these sites as had been told they were clearly 'apostate'... something that i am pretty much being labled as myself today, just for having a bit of independant thinking :-/
Donuthole i found your post very very true. Funny how i never thought of it that way despite probably being hated by a couple in my congregation. What a bad atmosphere every Thursday night!!
It is a relief to get my children away from such hostile individuals... not all of course. As i have said in a different thread, i do belive some folk are genuine and i feel sorry for these ones. Maybe one day they will see.
And maybe one day if there is such a thing as Karma, the meanies will realise they were not right after all!
