  Woman I work with just asked me, "if you fall in love and get married, do you have to marry a JW?"

  you wanna talk about a section in the office floor becoming as quiet as a vacant building in the middle of nowhere.

  so she put her hand on her chin and said in more words or less, "if you fall in love, and get married, do you have to marry a jw?

  i couldn't imagine people looking at me poorly because i didn't marry a jw!

  I think I have had just about every questions. Yes, they are all pretty embarassing because the answers are so out of the norm. I used to DREAD this time of year and be so happy when it was over so I didn't have to "stand up for the truth" too much until next year.

  I do not know your exacact situation, but if you are having doubts and are attempting to fade sometime soon, I would probably say something like this "Yes that is the rule of the JW's, I do not agree with everything that they print or say from the platform, I form my own ideas and opinions." Just so you don't look so much like a whoose because people can read you that you probably are not gung ho about it all.

  Did you Fade Gradually or Stop Attending Meetings Quickly ? Reasons ?

  been thinking about this and curious about what makes us all come to the decisions we came to in our fade/exiting the jw organization.. i think for myself having been born-in & raised a jw my doubts about the generation doctrine had simmered for years within me quietly and by the time i finally left in 2003 i had reached my breaking point.

  also seeing unjust treatment of rank & file witness ( myself included ) just propelled me into my decision even quicker.

  so - one day after meeting with 3 elders in a back room before a meeting and seeing their judgmental aggression towards me - i just told myself " enough is enough ".

  I had been able to miss many meetings by planning necessary business trips, but I would leave on the days that I would be missing a meeting. I eventually told my H at the time and my mom that I did not want to be a witness. I went a little during the summer and spring of 2009, and went to the DA in Aug 2009 and never went back. Well, I went once with my mom. I didnt go to the memorial and didnt feel bad about it at all.

  Being a chick, I really don't find her sexy, but she was a model in her earlier life, and she is accomplished and a near perfectionist, so I can see how her pleasant looks and abilities would attract a man. But the thought of her dropping her drawers and popping her top....really, you would be into that?

  i saw a very long thread on answerbag answering the above question in which there are several jws responding and denyng vehemently what is said in the question.

  in some places being quite rude to people.

  the dialogue highlighted yellow is me, the text highlighted blue is someone who is agreeing that the jws did preach this.

  Most JW's will admit it. I have never heard one not admit it. I remember my own staunch mother sheepishly telling me about it one day. The ones who deny it are ignorant asses.

  If you have kids who are being exposed to JW beliefs

  it's becoming clearer and clearer that i need to muster some sort of strategy for countering the mr's indoctrination of the kids.

  now some of these kids are stepkids, so that makes it a bit hairier.

  but for our youngest, i will need to think about how to teach her other things too.

  This has been a helpful thread and I look forward to more experiences on this subject. I am going to order the critical thinking book.

  What if I don't know if I am christian? I really still question so much that I don't know what to teach them. But they definitely have that God, Jesus Bible mentality....hmmmm

  marinade for Vegetable Kabobs

  i am looking for marinade for vegetable kabobs.

  there are alots of suggestions on the internet, but i cannot decide which one i want yet.

  it would be my first time to marinade the vegetable kabobs before i grill them..

  Veggies like peppers and onions won't really absorb anything. Mushroom's will. Zucchini might absorb some. I would make sure you have a nice thick marinade so it coats the veggies. Olive Oil, Garlic, Soy, Lemon Juice, Oregano splash of dijon or brown spicy mustard will emulsify the marinade and keep it from separating.

  How SAD that she doesn't celebrate.

  I often would LOVE to reply to JW's when they ask an obvious, but personal choice type of question to confirm their pending judgment on you something right back that is so not my business. For example, if someone asked me "Do you celebrate holiday's" I would like to reply back "Why do you ask, we have not spoke in months...when was the last time you and your wife had sex. OR how much money do you make in a year." Ya know stuff I have no business asking just like they do.

  i cut and pasted the subject line from a comment made by one of this board's longtime members.

  it got me wondering if this is the prevalent thinking in here.

  for a very long time i believed that jw's and all fundamentalist christian folk are a cut above the norm.

  Being raised a JW and having very limited experience in friendships with non JW's until I allowed myself to get closer to co-workers and finally my whole other side of ex-JW family, I realized that JW's along with many other fundamental cults, like FLDS, etc. are some of the most superficial (but with mostly pure intentions) people on the planet. They thrive on appearance of spiritual strength. Being visible as to what they are doing in the cong is a huge way to climb the social ladder with them.

  So now knowing non JW's my experience is that just like some JW's, these people too would give the shirt off their backs, go the extra mile, but above all, non JW's are tremendously more excepting, non judgmental, and aware of boundaries that JW's seem to blur because they feel entitled to know details of everyone's lives.
