  My guess is they have a great deal of a "cushion" which generates sizable interest. If they can keep up their repeat expenses with donations and the occasional liquidation, it seems they cycle their worth and wouldn't suffer too bad.

  When I was a kid, I used to think that Jehovah must magically put money in the society's bank account because I could not fathom how a room full of 2000 people could raise $14k in donations.....

  Is it socially and professionally acceptable to drink a beer during your lunch break?

  i've been watching my alcohol intake for dietary reasons.

  i've been limiting my consumption to a small half glass of vodka, or a shot or two of bourbon.

  alcohol just doesn't do well with the gains i want to make working out.

  I work in automotive. Lots of engineer's and IT dudes who love their beer. Sometimes we invent ideas for lunchtime fesitivities, such as the latest "cheeseburger tour" where we go to a different hole in the wall to test the burgers, of course you have to have beer with your burger. We have had at least 25 people at times in those places. There are a few who cannot help themselves and end up ordering shots and I think those people end up going home. On Cinco De Mayo my boss ordered a pitcher of margarita's. I did come back to the office that day and was giggling the whole time.

  So yes, it is acceptable. We joke about that kind of stuff all of the time. But, not a good idea to smell like a wine-o when you get back. I am often taken out by companies for lunch, sometimes for holiday's, etc. and will have a glass of wine if the people I am with do.

  I Miss Field Service!

  yep, i miss those good old field service days but now i'm not allowed to join in the house to house work.

  so i've decided to do what i was taught to do instead; letter writing.. i'm going to take the money i once contributed to the kingdom hall and buy stamps with it.

  then i'll give a good witness to many in my area or in my state or across the country.

  my wife and i have not even been df'd for a week and an old friend on fb (an inactive jw who has active jw friends who used to be friends of mine) says there's a rumor going around that i'm gay.

  action - what is amazing to me is how many people who become witnesses do so because they genuinely love and respect god.

  after baptism they express a great amount of zeal.

  they look back at their former religious beliefs with disgust and anger.

  Do you really think that there is a downturn in the dubs that is increasing? I do agree the internet helps, but I do not know of too many of my old friends following my path. Lonely dissenter over here!

  I remember hating service as a kid, hating going to meetings, as a teenager, didnt like it much. I did like assemblies because I got to buy some new outfits. Yes, very vain and superficial I know...Into my adulthood I disliked it because I struggled with two small kids and an idiot husband who was no help. It is a relief to be gone!
