  114,000, Literal, or Symbolic?

  a poster wrote to me privately, and brought to my attention the following comment below i made a while back in regards to the 144,00 number of revelation.

  i had casually conjectured that this number was likely symbolic in line with the book of revelation being mostly symbolic in kind.

  I've never gotten a good answer to this question: How can 12 symbolic 12,000s comprise a literal 144,000?

  They either have to be all figurative or all literal.

  Watchtower looses Norwegian Appeal

  watchtower has just lost its appeal in the norwegian courts over the withdrawal of the funding it receives from the government as an officially recognised religion.

  the initial decision will now stand due to what the court termed 'exclusionary practices' which includes the witnesses barbaric practice of shunning minors, even by family members in their own homes.

  the ministry of children and families have decided they are now no longer eligible for the state grant of 16 million norwegian kroner given to officially recognised religions.. the following is a statement has been issued, i have summarised if it isn't readable: .

  (Sarcasm warning):

  Why would the Watchtower want money from worldly governments that are opposed to Jehovah's Kingdom anyway?

  When I studied with Jehovah's Witnesses many years ago, they told me that the Watchtower doesn't ask for money because JWs voluntarily and joyfully donate all the money that's needed (after which, they sold me some WT literature).

  I'm sure the elder didn't want to hear about Jackson's testimony.

  I framed it as, "I'm really upset that a member of the Governing Body would say that instead of boldly witnessing to what he believes is the truth."

  That's what I thought would bother him the most as well and I wanted it to be a stone in his shoe.

  I also told him that if he doubted me he should google it himself. After all, it's the testimony of a member of the Governing Body, not of some opposer of the truth.

  i used to post on h2o as well.

  i think i once posted some of this on h2o, but there are many new ones who have joined since then.. i first encountered jw's at the age of 9. it wasn't in the door-to-door work, however.

  there seems to be a difference of opinion between geoffrey jackson and tonny morris on how to deal with their feelings towards worldly people.geoffrey jackson made a point to say in his talk that jesus wept for the wicked in jerusalem but following that bloodthirsty tony morris in his talk wants the demon stirred wicked humanity gone..

  People who can't wait for God to destroy the wicked should take care lest they be one of the first to go.

  In Jesus' story in Luke 18, the Pharisee thanked God that he wasn't like other men, including a nearby tax collector.

  Jesus informed him that in God's eyes, he was worse because his arrogant self-righteousness prevented him from seeing his own need for repentance.

  One time I encountered an elder at a cart.

  I told him about Jackson's testimony: "I think would seem to be quite presumptuous to say that we are the only spokesperson that God is using."

  I said, "You can google it and see and hear him saying it. My question is, 'Why didn't he boldly tell the truth about what Jehovah's Witnesses believe in that regard? Isn't that what Jehovah's people are supposed to do when they witness? If the organization is just one way among many, then why do people need to become Jehovah's Witnesses?"

  He just said, "I haven't heard the statement so I'm not going to comment on it."

  I replied: "You need to go listen to it because that really bothered me. It wasn't what I would expect from an ordinary JW, let alone from an anointed member of the Governing Body."

  That was the last contact I had with him. I hope and pray that became a stone in his shoe and that it would lead him to wake up.

  can i ask please especially for all who are pomo?.

  we've taken a decision similar to revelation 18:4 to get out of the watchtower and not share in its sins.. how many of you still believe that god will one day terminate the world's many systems by means of an armageddon?.

  The Bible says very little about Armageddon compared to the Watchtower.

  The WT mentions it constantly to keep JWs in fear and in line.

  Babylon the Great and the last Pope

  what do you guys think of the evangelicals theory about babylon the great and the last pope...just starting this big book out of curiosity...like 500 pages...it seems there is a lot of different thinking from the borg.

  Most of the time, the WT acts as if it's the only religious organization that pays any attention to Bible prophecy.

  When it does mention other views, it chides Christendom for its errors, ignoring the fact that (so far as I know) the WT itself has promoted more failed dates that any other person or organization within the same time frame.

  Never mind what we said yesterday. We have new light for you today.

  Meanwhile, the GB continues to see itself as the focal point of history and interprets everything in terms of themselves. No wonder they can't get anything right.

  More money and meeting with 3 elders

  so, we had this meeting with 3 elders ( larry, moe and curly) my uncle who is the lawyer sat in the room and stayed quiet, and fact for 40 minutes we let them talk.

  we would just sit there.

  they went into along winded monolog about how the world is in bad shape and getting worst.
