As usual, the WT tries to have it both ways.
Theocratic war strategy.
breaking news....there is hope for good hearted non-jws!!!.
according to sergio:.
are jehovah's witnesses the only ones to be saved during the end time?.
As usual, the WT tries to have it both ways.
Theocratic war strategy.
something does not compute.
you are my witnesses,”declares jehovah, yes, my servant whom i have chosen, so that you may know and have faith in me and understand that i am the same one.before me no god was formed, and after me there has been none.
isaiah 43:10. in the beginning was the word, and the word was with god and the word was god.
Many JWs don't attempt to defend anything.
They just refer you to the WT website and move on.
on eternal life.
"none of us are in position to earn god’s gifts, least of all to earn the gift of life.
but we can show ourselves worthy of the gift of eternal life by … dedicating ourselves to jehovah and then proving faithful to that dedication.” (the watchtower, august 15, 1952, p. 485).
When the WT says you can't earn salvation, they mean that without the gift of the ransom sacrifice all your works would be useless, but because of that gift, your works now can show that you are worthy of salvation.
So salvation isn't earned; it's a gift.
But that's like saying that your paychecks aren't earned; they're gifts.
Why so?
Because if your boss hadn't given you a job (something he/she was under no obligation to do), he/she wouldn't have to pay you anything no matter how many works you volunteered to do for him/her; therefore, your paychecks are gifts.
Isn't WT logic amazing? On JW dot org, the WT makes the analogy of a rich man offering an expensive gift if you come to a specific place at a specific time to receive it.
Even though you have to do something to get it, it would still be a gift.
But that analogy is false because it's nothing like the WT salvation system.
If the rich man made you come to 3-5 meetings a week and go door to door promoting his literature the rest of your life, that would no longer be a gift.
It would be wages.
we all know that jws consider the wt religion to be "the truth" and refer to it as such.. granted, that phrase is used repeatedly in the literature and from the platform.. but it's obvious that much of what the organization used to require jws to teach house-to-house as important truths--even within our own lifetimes--has been abandoned.
it's been replaced by "new light" and "refined understanding.
what's meant by "the 1914 generation" is a prime example.. in fact, i think it would be hard to find another religion that has changed so many of its teachings, especially in such a short period of time.. so why do jws still believe their religion to be "the truth"?.
Punkofnice,
I have a JW friend who thinks he has researched theological issues deeply himself.
He really doesn't realize he believes what he does because the WT has indoctrinated him to believe it via language, repetition, and selective quoting of sources.
I hate to think how similar I was back in the day when I accepted things simply because the WT asserted them to be true.

Punkofnice,
I have an XJW friend who used to say to other '"apostates", "So, how long were you in..." The expected her to say "the truth."
Instead she said, "So, how long were you in the lie?"
They'd be shocked, but she'd ask, "You don't still believe it's the truth, do you?"

TonusOH said, "if you are convinced that the JWs have the truth, then you have nowhere else to go."
I think that's why a lot of JWs stay in the organization despite all its obvious errors.
They think everything else is worse so there is nowhere else to go.

Regarding doctrine issues, it seems to me that the following are what JWs hold onto the most in concluding they are "in the truth":
1. Emphasis on the name "Jehovah"
2. Kingdom emphasis
3. No Trinity
4. No hellfire
5. No war.

Thoughts?
what new light from jehovah did you find hard to swallow?.
the conversations in the attached video are enlightening.
the graphic is hilarious.. https://youtu.be/byj3zrpbuvg.
Overlapping generations has to be at or near the top.
After telling us we would never grow old in this system of things, after getting JWs to show studies the 1914 arrow, after the Watchtower cover showing the generation that will by no means pass away... they redefined it all.
But we are still in the last second of this old system...
“this generation will by no means pass away until all these things occur.
heaven and earth will pass away but my words will by no means pass away.”.
the destruction of jerusalem is insignificant in the large scheme of things.
I never cease to marvel at how many so-called experts in eschatology (including, but not limited to Russell) forgot there was no year 0.
They all had to change their calculations by one year.
Then when their predictions still came to nothing, they came up with a new set of calculations and announced a different date.
Never mind.
New light.
