Why do Jehovah's Witnesses avoid examining their own religion? An interesting read from Scientific American Magazine.
by Balaamsass2 infor a long time, i thought pimi (physically in, mentally in) jws were unique in their inability to simply type and read the latest "google" news results about "jehovah's witnesses " or "watchtower".
however, it appears it is not uncommon for a large portion of the population purposefully to avoid facts...on purpose!
"why do people avoid facts that could help them?.

Here is one!
"We need to examine, not only what we personally believe, but also what is taught by any religious organization with which we may be associated. Are its teachings in full harmony with God’s Word, or are they based on the traditions of men? If we are lovers of the truth, there is nothing to fear from such an examination."

John 5:28,29.
by Lost in the fog inwe used to use this scripture to show that there was going to be a future resurrection.
but recently i got to thinking about it.
if the apostle paul was right in saying that the righteous on death would be changed in the twinkling of an eye from earthly life to heavenly glory why would there be a future resurrection needed for the righteous?

According to the Watchtower the first resurrection began in the spring of 1918 and continues as each anointed one today is raised immediately to heavenly life at death to join those already in heaven.
The resurrection of the earthly class however is future, and will take place gradually subsequent to Armageddon.

28Marvel not at this: for the hour is coming, in the which all that are in the graves shall hear his voice,29And shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation.Well trying to make sense of nonsense is difficult unless "the hour" becomes 100 plus years. JWs believe that the apostles and faithful dead went to heaven in 1918 i.e., the first resurrection began in 1918. That resurrection will be complete within the lifespan of a single overlapping generation.

Only a pretense at cutting him some slack.
And as mentioned, no counseling in terms of his responsibilities to the girlfriend and their baby.

There are four requirements for the Jehovah's Witnesses to be able to live forever on Paradise earth according to the Watchtower, Feb. 15, 1983, p. 12.
"Jesus Christ identified a first requirement when he said in prayer to his Father: "This means everlasting life, their taking in knowledge of you, the only true God, and of the one whom you sent forth, Jesus Christ." (John 17:3) Knowledge of God and of Jesus Christ includes knowledge of God's purposes regarding the earth and of Christ's role as earth's new King. Will you take in such knowledge by studying the Bible?
"Many have found the second requirement more difficult. It is to obey God's laws, yes, to conform one's life to the moral requirements set out in the Bible. This includes refraining from a debauched, immoral way of life." 1 Corinthians 6:9, 10; 1 Peter 4:3, 4. ["Accepting the message of salvation and devoting ourselves to God through Christ and being baptized in water is only the beginning of our exercise of faith. It is only the beginning of our obedience to God. It sets us on the way to everlasting life, but it does not mean our final salvation," (This Means Everlasting Life, p. 181).]
"A third requirement is that we be associated with God's channel, his organization. God has always used an organization. For example, only those in the ark in Noah's day survived the Flood, and only those associated with the Christian congregation in the first century had God's favor. (Acts 4:12) Similarly, Jehovah is using only one organization today to accomplish his will. To receive everlasting life in the earthly Paradise we must identify that organization and serve God as part of it.
"The fourth requirement is connected with loyalty. God requires that prospective subjects of his Kingdom support his government by loyally advocating his Kingdom rule to others. Jesus Christ explained: "This good news of the kingdom will be preached in all the inhabited earth," (Matthew 24:14) Will you meet this requirement by telling others about God's Kingdom?

Why do Quebecers limit themselves to one egg at breakfast.
Because in Quebec one egg is un-oeuf.
