Ranmac... I didn't go to the DC this summer (or the 2010 DC either)... Could you elaborate on what they said about the "clergy" helping the poor, building hospitals, etc.? Did they explain why these things amount to worship of society? I'm just curious to know what twisted reasoning they're using lately... Thanks...

2011 District Convention "Let Us Be Bored and Confused Into Obedience"
by ranmac inthis has already been discussed but i need to vent.. i just spent the most painful weekend of my life sitting thru this years dc.
what an unbelievably pointless, soulless and demeaning spectacle the assemblies are.
the three days were a blur of monotanous droning and brainwashing.

SparrowAmongMany... Are you serious? How can you say that Watchtower publications are very similar to New Testament writings? Do you realize that Watchtower publications are littered with twisted reasoning, intentional deceit, false predictions and flat out lies? How can you possibly make such a statement?

Circuit Accounts Servants Confesses how the SCAM WORKS!!
by JT inyes, i too have wondered how an assembly that is held in a fully paid for assembly hall, with no food service, could possibly have $10,000 in expenses.
i suppose the bethel speakers have transportation expenses - maybe $1000 or so.
as for rent on the assembly hall, well you have already paid for it once, why pay again?

@Baltaar447...
good idea... also, I sense that there are some who have been out a while but still tend to give the WT the benefit of the doubt when it comes to money matters... so I'd like to share this anecdote...
In the early 90's, I was in a DC assisting the Accounts Servant count contribution money... well, I was really just sorting money, facing the dollar bills up, straigtening out the wrinkles and making perfectly shaped "bricks" after the money was counted. About 4 times a day, 10 or so brothers would show up with trash bags stuffed with cash. There was never enough table space to put all the money so it was usually just thrown on the floor where two of us would sort out the bills and hand them over to an elder who would count them (along with the accounts servants) and then we would prepare neat bricks for deposit.
Well one day, while two of us were on the floor in the "accounts room" sorting a mountain of cash, we all heard the "deficit" announcement that came from the platform. I can't remember the amount but I remember thinking "no way!"... we weren't even done sorting the 3rd pile of cash (with a 4th one still pending) and this guy actually announced a large deficit. I asked the accounts servant if that was true and he just looked at me with a defeated look on his face... like he wanted to say "no" but bit his tongue instead. Another elder, noticing the awkward silence, jumped in and changed the subject...
just thought I'd share that (for whatever this anecdote is worth)

MommaTossedMe... The money will come from their Hedge Funds and Dumbo Property sales as well as KH remodel loan interest payments and KH flips...not to mention the contributions at assemblies where they invariably claim "operating deficits" on the last day... Did I miss anything? Bottom line: They've got it pretty much covered...

JW co-worker lost everything in flood... elders are nowhere in sight
by Alfred inrecently, a flash flood hit co-worker's neighborhood when heavy rains combined with blocked storm drains caused river water and mud to deviate and head straight for the lower homes in his gated community.
about 18 homes were affected in this neighborhood and there was absolutely no time to react.
before my jw co-worker could do anything, he had at least 3 feet of water and mud gushing through his entire one-story home losing everything except some pictures that were hanging on the wall.

Undercover... I know exactly what you mean.
The difference here is that about 60% of his congo lives in upper middle class neighborhoods (believe it or not)... he lives in one also, but only because he inherited his home and everyone knows it... they also are fully aware that he does not have a high-paying job, average maybe...
I should have pointed that out in my post ... but thanks for your perspective...

I think this "Branch Organization Manual” took a page from Finished Mystery (1917)… page 55 to be exact. Here’s what this book states regarding Charles Taze Russell's opinion about Bible translation:
As to his education we quote his own words: “As respects my education in Greek and Hebrew: Not only do I not claim very special knowledge of either language, but I claim that not one minister in a thousand is either a Hebrew or a Greek scholar. To be able to spell out a few Greek words is of no earthly value. Nor is it necessary longer to study these languages in order to have knowledge of the Bible. Our Presbyterian friends have gotten out at great cost Young’s Analytical Hebrew, Chaldaic, Greek and English Lexicon Concordance, which any one may procure. And our Methodist friends have issued similar work –Strong’s Analytical Concordance and Lexicon. And there is a still older one entitled Englishman’s Hebrew, Chaldaic, Greek and English Lexicon and Concordance. Additionally, Liddell and Scott’s Greek Lexicon is a standard authority. The prices of these are not beyond the reach of an average man. By these works scholarly information respecting the original text of the Bible is obtainable.

Recently, a flash flood hit co-worker's neighborhood when heavy rains combined with blocked storm drains caused river water and mud to deviate and head straight for the lower homes in his gated community. About 18 homes were affected in this neighborhood and there was absolutely no time to react. Before my JW co-worker could do anything, he had at least 3 feet of water and mud gushing through his entire one-story home losing everything except some pictures that were hanging on the wall. It was devastating....
Anyway, he just called me a few minutes ago to ask for a few days off (I'm actually his boss and he knows that I have completely faded). Of course I did give him time off and when he gets back i plan to give him an envelope with some money. Why? Because when I asked him if the elders had come around to offer his family any assistance, he said that (other than one genuinely loving sister) NO ONE from his congo has even called or asked how he was doing or even offered to help him clean up (and just about everyone, including the elders, knows what happened). Meanwhile, he has been sleeping at his mother-in-law's home along with his wife and daughters. It's been over 2 weeks since that flood practically destroyed his home and no one has given him one red cent. i asked him how he felt about that and he said: "not good but I just need to stay focused for my family." That was my cue to leave it at that and simply offer my help.
Had he not said those words, I was going to get into how the "Society" only helps JWs if there's any significant publicity to be had, but decided to bite my tongue (especially since he has enough stress to deal with at the moment)... I do intend to talk to him at length about why he received zero help from the elders (when the appropriate time comes). In the meantime, I'd like to know if anyone here has had a similar experience that I can possibly share with him at a later time... thanks!

Do they still play the piano during songs at the KH?
by andys ini was just now thinking of this do they still play the piano at the kh or is that part out of there all together also, i have been learning that when you look at a word in the bible many words translated over to hebrew have a deeper meaning for example the word praise a person can just glance at the word and think praise, but there are many hebrew meanings behind the word praise and one of the meanings:.
zamar-to touch the strings or parts of a musical instrument i.e.
play upon it, to make music accompanied by the voice, to celebrate in song and music, give praise, sing forth praises, psalms.

Lore... the fully-orchestrated CDs are for assemblies only... it's just one more thing they use to make assemblies seem more special than they really are. Also, the orchestra version tends to wake people up (somewhat) during long and boring assemblies... there's a method to their madness...
