A missionary/CO mentioned in James Penton's "Apocalypse Delayed" and in Ray's COC told me how the big boys in Brooklyn would have him make frequent trips between NY and Barcelona (or Madrid?) in the late 70's and he would have to hand carry large amounts of cash (mostly from assembly contributions) and hand these over to someone in a Bethel accounting office... this was illegal and the Bethel brass knew it... but they justified it as "theocratic warfare" since there was some light persecution of JWs in Spain during that time...

by God_Delusion inlet me explain a little about what i do each day...... i work for a company that arranges trusts in the cook islands, turks & caicos, panama, etc.
i know that blondie is against what i am about to say, but i do not just believe that the wts have a variety of trusts in various jurisdictions around the world......i am absolutely positive they do.. .
i personally look after 14 trusts.

Missionaries in Tiawan asked to give salaries back to bethel...one resigned!!
by Witness 007 ina friend from australia's first "ministerial training school" was excited to go to asia as a missionary....only to return in disgrace!!!
the government lets them stay if they become "english teachers" and except a part-time job for a salary {which is generous}.
bethel told him that the money he earns on the side while a missionary belongs to them!!

wha happened?...
Their basis is that missionaries are supposed to to take a vow of poverty... by taking a part-time job and keeping the money, they demonstrate greed and bring reproach on Jehovah's name. So the WT lovingly helps these missionaries by taking their salaries and giving them a monthly stipend imnstead... in this way, they give a fine witness and contribute to the worldwide life-saving work...

Was it the doctrine or the control that woke you up?
by Evidently Apostate ineven though i knew some of the doctrines were so convoluted they couldnt be genuine, every prophecy mentioned in the bible was simplistic and direct i still felt it was the best place to raise a family.
i felt like i could ignore the hypocrisy, manipulative and fake personalities and still have true friends and unbreakable family bonds.
even though my concience would bother me i would always try to forgive.

Millions now living with emotional scars..... scars that will never die.
by koolaid-man inmany former jehovah's witnesses are now coming forward and reporting of traumatizing events when they were young witnesses, that have left them emotionally chalenged and scarred.. crying babies only weeks old are taken in the back room of the kingdom hall and spanked, many young jw's are severely beaten with belts, rulers, wooden spoons ect.. the physical abuse in the organization is extreme and excessive...... but it does not stop there.. when a jw youth is disfellowshipped the emotional damage can be very dangerous even pushing many to commit suicide.. one of our guests on the six screens of the watchtower conference call sat.
nov 5, 2011 at7:pm edt is a former jw named shane who was disfellowshipped at age 16 and has been suffering for many years since then.. .
our second guest is former jw joe hewitt the author of the new book rescuing slaves of the watchtower.. .

my general observations on active jw's and how their lives are going.
the majority of them relate many beautiful ways their lives have turned out after joining but they refused to mention how rough and tough the journey truly is., here in america, we have received reports of many jws who terminated their lives because of the difficulty of coping with the cultish shunning and abandoment of those they love.

Are JWs the worst restaurant customers?
by Alfred in(a little background info before i ask my question...).
my sister-in-law (non-jw), who manages a popular chain restaurant near a kingdom hall, just found out that my wife and i have recently faded, so she decided to get something off her chest the other day... you guessed it: she wanted us to know that jws are the worst customers ever!
she then told us some really embarrassing stories about how jws would request a table for 15 to 20 people (after a sunday meeting) and then (when the bill came) some of the jws would start deliberating amongst themselves on whether or not the waiter was diligent or not (to justify the low tip he was getting anyway).

I hate to shamelessly bump this thread, but last night my non-JW sister-in-law brought up this subject yet again... she said that last Saturday was an usually busy day during lunch... apparently, 2 party busses (or tourist busses?) pulled up and filled up the remaining seats in the restaurant...
In the middle of all the chaos, two JW sisters that she recognizes walk in requesting a table for two (pioneers taking a break maybe?)... they were asked if sitting at the bar was OK... of course, they said no and even requested a booth. Finally, a booth opens up and they are seated, given menus and asked if they wanted anything to drink. They both ordered Sprite... After serving the Sprites, their waitor came by their table several times over a 25-minute period asking if they had decided what they wanted... not surprizingly, they weren't ready to order yet and continued their conversation without ever looking at their menus... Meanwhile, there were about 12 people (approximately 4 parties) waiting to be seated as the restaurant continued to be unusually full.
Finally, after occupying the table for 35 minutes, they order nothing, pay for their Sprites and leave a $1 tip... the waitor was pissed!!!
Again, my sister-in-law asks me why JWs are so clueless when they go to her restaurant. All I could say is that the WT dumbs down the rank and file so much that some JWs tend to lose all situational awareness and practically live in hermetically sealed bubbles where they apparently feel that they need not behave like normal human beings... (In retrospect, this is probably not the best response I could have given, but it was the only thing that came to mind after hearing her vent for 5 minutes...)
