This just goes to show that no matter how long you are "in", and I have been "in" for more than six decades, you still don't know the extent of the abuse some experience at the hands of some of the elders. My son is an elder, and I just can't picture him doing this. He is such a well balanced person, and so personally kind. He is not the sort of man who would humiliate another person. Surely not all elders do such awful things....

What the WT requires for reinstatement
by sabastious init's creepy that they require you to "study" for all meetings and show that you "underlined" to get reinstated.. think about that for a second.
before they let you back in they make you prove that you have been at least partially re-indoctrinated.. i mean, in the end, what does "underlining" really prove?
true repentance?

You made a post on another thread, and it got me to thinking about you and your situation. The first question you need to resolve, the question that comes before "what is the Truth?" is "Is this organization God's channel of communication? I suggest you read "Captives of a Concept" and you can get a download (pdf) for about seven bucks. It's concise, clear and easy to understand, uses good references and footnotes, and when you are finished, many of your questions are answered. I have done a year of research, and most of what convinced me that this is not the truth was already in "Captives".

Unbelieveable! (I don't mean that I don't believe you, I mean it's blowing my mind!) This is demeaning. Totally demeaning. How did they tell him that? Just out and give instructions at the time? Do they meet with you before you begin attending meetings and tell you this and when to come and when to leave and just what to do? I notice that disfellowshipped ones always arrive during the song and disappear so quickly that if you aren't sitting in the back row where you can see them, you would never know they were there. Is this some kind of instruction? I had a family member disfellowshipped, and she never mentioned that she had to do this. (I don't even know why the brothers DF'd her, it was ridiculous) Is this some weird deal that goes on in some halls? Do you live in the US? I am just so blown away by this information.

Are you serious? They look at the Watchtowers and books? You must be joking! That is totally ridiculous. Has anyone you know personally submitted to this? This is treating you like a child! At my most sincere and zealous periods, I never underlined anything. It's crazy. What am I, so stupid that I can't remember the approved answer in a two inch paragraph? God!!!

I wonder if this will resonate with my elder son. He and his wife both have degrees, but I don't think they would encourage anyone to pursue college. I do have a pioneer friend who has a degree and has a big issue with this. She is upset at the current counsel regarding education. You have to make a living.

Once the Org has its claws in you ...
by MrMonroe inalmost three years after quitting meetings, and receiving only the most minimal, perfunctory interest from one elder (one visit six months later and no questions or expressions of interest from the congo members we thought were our "friends") i received a phone call last night from that elder, demanding an explanation for a recent action of mine.
i told him i had no interest in discussing my actions with him and that it was strange that after three years of silence only now has he contacted me for a "chat", because he has taken offence at something.
(so much for looking for the lost sheep ... remember the nov 15, 2008 wt study articles, ""help those who stray from the flock?

If you look up caselaw regarding announcements of disfellowshipping, there are none that I have found that the court held to be harassment. They have supported the right of religious organizations to practice shunning. (At least as far as I can see in the United States, I can't say anything regarding other countries.
Do you care if you are DF'd? Do you have family still in?

Okay, I read it. Gee, I don't think she'll want to talk to us. It's a shame, she'd get a lot of support.

New Beginnings!!!!
by JWFreak inwell things have changed big time for me.
on the 3rd of dec. finally, i have left my work at bethel and moved almost 500 kilometres away to a new life.. some of you were aware of my work in a european branch, and have kept my confidence.
for this i am eternally grateful...you know who you are.. the huge weight that has been taken off my shoulders is both a comfort and a relief.. when i settle into my new home properly, i intend to write some memoirs of life at the branch, hoping that others will find it of interest.. for now my future is for the first time uncertain and that makes it very very exciting, but i am no longer under the control of others yay!!.
