Shackled to the Watchtower: A distinction every Jehovah's Witness should acknowledge
by Nickolas inif one was to take a poll of all the registered users of this board he might be surprised by the number of people who still attend meetings and/or still go door to door.
a contributor to a recent thread, expressing worry that she is on the threshold of being outed, posited that fear is what fills the seats in the kingdom hall.
fear, not love.

I am thinking upon reading these posts, about what I've learned from the "cult mindcontrol" type books. There is a type of conversation, (and it usually doesn't last too long before the "wall" comes back up) where, for a moment, just the slightest moment, that two members who are having a rare moment of intimacy, and whose guards are slightly down, say just enough to jolt each other into awareness. A spark of llight, then fear, then the wall. Two "authentic" personalities together at the same moment in time.
At a family gathering of my JW family a couple of months ago, we were all chatting comfortably, and I happened to mention that Jesus is not our mediator. Just sort of tossed it off as part of the conversation. I looked up and one of my cousins was staring at me quite intently. She wanted to know why I said that. (She too has been in the "truth" for many decades, another born-in) I just gave an easy laugh and said that it's what we teach. I kind of explained. She stayed serious, continued to look at me, then asked me to send her information on where that statement can be found.
It was a moment of truth.
It's a chink in her wall.

Update: part 2, elder's counsel to mom to quit "bad association"
by Coffee House Girl inwell because i knew the questions would be the same on saturday as they were friday i was even more prepared.
my mom has this pattern of repeating the same questions over and over again...she will leave it for a few hours & then she will cycle them over again, but then ask more detail.. so saturday she calls me before i leave for home and now she is backpedalling her story.
she tells me that the elder's never said that they were going to disfellowship me, they just were counseling her that she should no longer be associating with me because i am bad association and have been seen with "him" (again with the him) and that his car has been seen parked there all the time.

jehovahs witnesses giving a "bad witness "
by looloo ini was talking to a workmate yesterday about my jw experiance and my daughters abuse , she told me that she works as a counsellor and had been discussing jws with a colleage , this person had given counselling to a jw woman who was a victim of domestic violence by her jw husband , the elders had done nothing to help the woman and simply told her to stop moaning about it !
the counseller was disgusted that in this day and age women are still treated like that !
the jw lady eventually left her husband , took the children with her and got disfellowshipped !!!!

I always thought that Katherine Jackson was giving a very, very public "bad witness" because she refused to leave Joe Jackson and failed to protect her children from his crazy abuse in the "name of God". I hated the fact that it was an example of tolerance to child abuse due to JW loyalty. A bad example to other wives and mothers.

Attention Born in Lurkers
by stuckinamovement indo you feel that something has changed within god's organization?
have you noticed that in the past several years there has been a more authoritarian spirit displayed in the publications and from the platform?
i am in the beginning stages of a fade away and wanted to express my thoughts.

Creation days - now aeons long, even tho they said this a looong time ago, they are now bringing it back to the forefront -- so with aeons of time in the pre human creation -- how does that tie in with the 6,000 years(days) for our freedom on the 7,000th year(day)?? That was all based on the creative time periods - so does that mean, we have aeons to go before the new system now? - truthlover
Oh, this is SUCH A GREAT POINT!!! I will remember to use this.

Are they really that bad???
by anonymous4 inhad a good look into the doctrine, beliefs and practices of jws and to be honest, i don't really see anything wrong with it at all.. it's biblical and i've had such an eye opener the past year or so reading some of their books and magazines .
is there really any real reasons why i shouldn't want to get involved further?
:-).

You really need to do a little research of the organization's early history. I was born into it, and believed it all my life until I began reading the older stuff. Perhaps you should do a little research here. Check your facts now, once you are in, they don't let you quit. Seriously.

HACKERS
by LV101 ini know nothing about hackers but overheard local radio commentator crediting hackers for information about the wikileaks saga and how he loves hackers and how they were responsible for the facts being released about scientology, also --- and many other matters.
why are they not helping us w/facts about how the watchtower is destructive/dangerous --- media coverage (more) would be excellent.
recall metatron posted how successful one man can be (referring to the wikileaks' incident) and it looks like hackers are the dream ticket.

Sorry, didn't mean to tar and feather all hackers with the same brush. I have no experience with any good ones. Just the one who hacked into my computer, stole my bank password, and cleaned out a good chunk of my checking account. It left me with a bad impression.
