well thanks to this site i have come to realize i am being shunned........i think.
i find this really funny because my wife and i were never df or da, and we walked out in the late 1960's.
and no one in the family ever shunned us.. without making too much out of it my niece has not invited us to visit and meet our new nephew.
Yes...the society changes policy on shunning fairly frequently (every 3-5 years or so). I too never understood my family's schizophrenic attitude towards me until I found this site. Now I can anticipate a shift before my parents even know they are going to treat me differently. Thanks, JWN!
somebody know the theme of this years district convention or is still top secret?.
I agree with Blondie,
Dignity... Welcome, obarac! I do not know the answer to your question but... You will get answer here quicker than asking an off-line elder.
does anyone have any idea why birds are literally dropping dead from the sky in four or five states.
and even in sweden, hundreds of birds are dead.
and fish are turning up dead too,not only in the states, but also brazil and new zealand.. they're trying to say new year's eve fireworks frightened the birds to death.
Black Sheep,
I just pi$$ed myself!
All seriousness set aside, HAARP was the first thing I thought of when I heard about this stuff happening.

What blows me away is the difference in technology between then and now and the quality of music. Back in the sixties acts could flounder in obscurity for years with no commercial success (Bob Seger is a good example). You had to be picked up a major label (which robbed most of the greats blind). Today you can set up a studio in your house, market yourself, self-publish and sell your product for under a thousand. You would think the airwaves would be brimming with great songs. I've got XM and Sirius and spend most of the time listening to oldies. Back in the sixties I didn't listen to music from the twenties and neither did my parents or anyone else I knew. Just my 2 cents.
Long live, Morrison.

Soft Parade
YY2, I think you must have missed the sixties.
hypothetical scenario.
you are a city manager in a major metropolitan city with a population of 3,000,000.. .
if the governing body was truly convinced themselves of the impending disaster and the fact that the end is imminent would they not focus their efforts in spreading the message through effective means such as telephone, television, internet, social networks etc?
Excellent, SIAM... This is one of the main reasons I left. Just do the math.
remember the video of all the nice dudes who were on the governing body in the 70s?
(here's a refresher).. well this is what their lives were really like - the same as when i was there.
by the time it got to the end, all was left was chicken backs.
Thanks, Randy!
I fully intended to go to Bethel (life's dream). Went there for the tour in '74. I could sense some of the things you talk about even though the tour guides tried to make it look all shiny and bright. I remember the faces on the people strapped to some of the machines you mention. I could tell I would hate it (those poor bastards were trapped as far as I could tell). Being a small town boy I was very enamored with NYC itself. I quickly learned that Watchtower wages (what was it....$13/mo then?) wouldn't allow for much night life. I'm sure glad I went to kick the tires first. It's really close to being shanghaied if you just sign up without going to see the reality first.
every year, i take some time to express my admiration and respect for christmas.. yes, christmas, folks.. i don't give a rat's a$$ when jesus was or wasn't born.
i don't care how many gift giving orgies the romans had.
i don't care about "pagan" customs derived from religions that are long dead, anyway.
Right on! and Merry Christmas to all. Good night...
growing up in the fifties and sixties, stories of demonic possession were prevalant in the watchtower and awake.
i was terrified.
we were told they would bother you if you were faithful, but also if you fell away.
I have an interesting perspective on this (IMHO). I married one JW and one born again Christian (10 years apart). Both of them left "Christianity" about a year after we married and became Witches (in the religious sense and the exJW is a member of this board). Spirits are around us all the time whether you sense it or not. Most are not here to hurt you...they just are. I used to fear and loath them but I was wrong. Just like the real world there are good ones and bad ones. Bad ones can be dealt with (knowledge and courage required). Good ones are your friends whether you accept it or not. Open up, you might find some friends.
I had to drop 20 years of JW drivel on this subject to get past my fears on this subject.
