Is it common for old men to marry young JW?
by adjusted knowledge ini left in the 90's and marriage partners were similar in age at my former congregation.
i ran into a former jw friend from my childhood.
i haven't seen him in 15 years.

QB, You got it right. I've been married twice. I told my best friends and relatives to put a bullet in the back of my head if I ever bring a woman over announcing engagement. -

Being in a cult - what good did it do?
by Garrett inso, here's a bit of a different point of view.
while most of us will agree that our time within the jw cult was rather terrible, however, i'd like to look at another aspect.
did anything good come out of being in a cult and then waking up from it?.

I would say salesmanship. Learning how to sell everlasting life to unsuspecting victims from age 6 definitely hones your sales skills. Also, public speaking skills have helped my career. I was speaking in front of a hundred people when I was in early grade school, a thousand by middle school, 15,000 by high school. I was spewing BS but it was great experience. -

Wow! A wide array of experience. Steve2 I think you nailed it. I was a full time pioneer back in the 70's. They told us we were locust or something and we'd jump out of the car and deliver the BS tracts before anyone saw us coming. I knew the "soft targets" and where I was going to get my a$$ chewed by either the householder or their dog. I just thought it strange that I've lived in the same place that close to a kingdom hall and not getting called on. They don't know where I live. The IRS doesn't even know where I live.

Interesting. Since 1980 I've lived in a dozen places in CA and WA. Several places in AK and OR and a half dozen other states. I was never on a DNC list because they never new where I lived. The one time they contacted me circa 1984 or so in Newport Beach, CA I told them I was DFd. Funniest thing I ever saw. They ran down the hall like I was the antichrist. -

Do JWs suffer from Stockholm Syndrome?
by campaign of hate inthis topic is what what it says on the tin.

OC/Flipper, I totally agree. The blood on their hands is not even countable when you include things like Malawi, blood transfusions, suicides, etc. They are very high on the mind control spectrum. Think about being controlled to the point that you would let your child die rather than have proper medical treatment. That's mind control of epic proportions. -

Is disfellowshipping as popular as it was years ago?
by minimus ini seldom hear of people getting df'd anymore.
years ago it seemed there were a few per year in a congregation.

Wow...I'm shocked at the difference of opinion. I was df'd in the 70's so I'm out of touch. When I was in borg df happened frequently, mostly to young ones like me. I do remember it was consistent across the circuit. The day I got df'd there were 3 of us at the same time. Totally unrelated events. -

How do you respond to JW family?
by Laika infor those who have left and are still in contact with jw family, how do you usually respond when they bring up jw stuff, i.e.
start talking about the nearness of armageddon or things like that.. i usually say nothing and just let it pass but i'm considering changing tact to something more confrontational, less because i want to change their mind and more because i find it tiresome.
thoughts?

Pbrow, you nailed it. Unconditional love can only be shown one way. -

If you are single and have married friends, . . .
by compound complex inis your sense of loneliness (if you are lonely) heightened when you see what they share?
how do cope (if you are coping) with a sense of isolation, of not having a significant other?.
i know some single persons who are very happy as they are.

I can't remember where I got this quote but for me it's true. "Marriage is the perfect way to f*ck up good friendship." I've been married twice over 20 years. I'm happy to say I have a great relationships with both ex's now. I'm a happy single person even on "the beast of all holidays" coming up tomorrow. -

Is this what they are up to?
by Pistoff in1. the meeting notes (which seem to be genuine, several sources now) for the ldc roll out talk about the need for 500, yes, 500 new halls.. 2. they are not interested in what property is available, but instead what is 'optimal', and are training couples to search for 'optimal' property.. 3. if the buildings did not have a sign that said jw .org (i refuse to give them a free link) and kingdom hall of jehovah's witnesses, you could not tell it from a small bank or office building, just check the pictures.. .
this makes me think that a) they either need to build and sell commercial property very quickly, or they just want to build and sell commercial property very quickly.. .
think about this: to build a kingdom hall (church), you need a variance, whether commercial or residential.. i predict they will put these in primarily commercial locations, ie, 'optimal' locations.. .

Come on folks. How does Bill Gates give away billions and billions and stay one of the richest people on the planet? He has a "non-profit" organization. How does McD's make money selling cheap hamburgers? They don't. It's a real estate investment company. Same thing happening here. Only with slave labor drones. Dubs are just upgrading their business model to commercial. Brilliant!
