Would You Ever Go Back To The Witnesses??
by minimus inevery once in a while you hear people say they actually “miss” their old witness friends and or family.
some would have even stayed in the organization if they became a bit more liberal and open minded.

Spiral: Ditto. The dude that df'd me was shooting daggers through me with his eyes when I showed up with my new wife who was casually interested in my former religion. That was over 20 years ago and haven't been back since except for funerals.

Were You Willing To Die For Jehovah?
by minimus inwe were supposed to be dedicated unconditionally to jehovah god.
we were willing to be persecuted to the death if need be.
if it came to taking a blood transfusion or dying, we were loyal to jehovah and would be a martyr for god.

I'm not sure anyone can answer the question for yourself or your children until that time comes if your a die hard dub.
I don't know if dubs still carry the blood card BUT an MS friend of mine had the best answer. "No blood transfusions....but for God's sake, don't let me die!"

The Apology Tour
by minimus ineveryone seems to be hitting the apology circuit.
if you ever said anything inappropriate or what might be considered offensive, then you must apologize.
if you possibly could have hurt someone’s feelings, you need to say sorry.

Calling All Who Were JWs Between 1967 and 1980
by -Crossroads- inhello jwn,.
to introduce myself, i am still in the jws but learned ttatt some months ago.
i now ask this question to get more info on a past teaching.. between 1967 and 1980 was when the 'current understanding' of the wts was that organ transplants were cannibalism, and thus abhorrent.

Baptized '71. DF'd '80. You'd be out on your ear in a heartbeat on 2 counts (blood and cannibalism). I think Garg is on to something there with the orifice confusion. That goes on to this day.

> 4. Starbucks
> 3. McDonalds
> 2. Subway
> 1. JW's
Having a hard time believing that considering JW penchant for cooking the books. He was very excited about the amazing growth of the org. A stark contrast from what I hear on this and other sites as well as my own observations. I live in a very urban area. I can walk to a dozen Starbucks, Subway or McD's from my house but I couldn't tell you where a KH is.

You are absolutely right. It's all about your son. I gave my first talk about that age and I can't say it was a bad experience although I was spewing BS that was fed to me. I was glad my Dad was there.
Blondie - I don't want to hijack this thread about "age appropriate" talks (LOL). I'll start a new one.

i ran into a former jw friend from my childhood.

QB, You got it right. I've been married twice. I told my best friends and relatives to put a bullet in the back of my head if I ever bring a woman over announcing engagement. -

Being in a cult - what good did it do?
by Garrett inso, here's a bit of a different point of view.
while most of us will agree that our time within the jw cult was rather terrible, however, i'd like to look at another aspect.
did anything good come out of being in a cult and then waking up from it?.

I would say salesmanship. Learning how to sell everlasting life to unsuspecting victims from age 6 definitely hones your sales skills. Also, public speaking skills have helped my career. I was speaking in front of a hundred people when I was in early grade school, a thousand by middle school, 15,000 by high school. I was spewing BS but it was great experience. -

Is door to door activity over?
by badcompany injust curious about others experience.
i've been living just a few miles from a kingdom hall for 9 years.
i've been called on 0 times.

Wow! A wide array of experience. Steve2 I think you nailed it. I was a full time pioneer back in the 70's. They told us we were locust or something and we'd jump out of the car and deliver the BS tracts before anyone saw us coming. I knew the "soft targets" and where I was going to get my a$$ chewed by either the householder or their dog. I just thought it strange that I've lived in the same place that close to a kingdom hall and not getting called on. They don't know where I live. The IRS doesn't even know where I live.
