I find it interesting that so many people I know post a "Happy Birthday" on my Facebook page. All of those years inside the WTS org., and I always thought birthdays were evil, Pagan, God dishonoring. As it turns out, birthdays are just a way of telling someone that you're happy they were born. Nothing more. When my friends find out I grew up a JW and never celebrated birthdays, they look at me as if to say, "You're kidding!"
It's no big deal, really. I guess having grown up as many of you did, without celebrating them, my B-day isn't all that important to me. However, it is nice to have so many people wishing me to have a happy birthday. It feels good. Too bad there are so many JW's who don't know how nice it is.

At the time, I liked the Revelation Climax book. Because when It came out, I placed a ton of them in field service. I had just started pioneering and thought I was informing the whole community about what was approaching within the next ten years or so.......I have since re-read it and found so many holes and absurdity in it, that I'm embarassed I bothered placing it with all of those nice people.
I do agree, the Greatest Man book is very good and fairly accurate and balanced. I remember studying the Commentary on the Letter of James when I was young, but I was too young to really remember what it said.

1904 and Russell taken to task for 606 BCE...calling you brainiacs!
by Aussie Oz inwhile cruising through the oct 1 1904 watctower i found this interesting challenge to russells 606 date.
his response in part is also pasted from the wt, but goes on to a very lengthy argument that seems to avoid all the known facts.
not being very good at understaning the issue at all, i wonder what those here more scholarly than i might make of his full reply.

One thing I have never understood, SOMEONE HELP ME PLEASE!!????:
If Jerusalem were destroyed in 587 BC, why does the WTS say it isn't in harmony with the bible? couldn't it still be consistent with what the Bible says?
I know I haven't studied this in depth, although I have read much about it. I am not getting my head around it. I understand how i 587 knocks 1914 out of the park, as well as 1918 and 1919......but why does the WTS seem to say that if one believes Jerusalem was destroyed in 587, they don't believe the Bible?

Do the characters in the dramas lip-sync? I've never been close enough to tell one way or another.

Saturday, Sunday, Monday and Midweek Night
by Simon Morley ini notice how periodically the wt and/or awake!
portray inactive jw's as selfishly spending their time washing their ferarri's on a saturday morning or jetting off, excutive class, to cabo san lucas.... since leaving what have you done with your time?
it would be nice for new and/or lurkers see that we are not all involved in some bacchanalian activity.. i have volunteered for a couple of not-for-profit charity boards and joined a volunteer group that helps people with english and math.

I think one thing the WTS wants people to think is that once people leave the organization, their lives become worthless. They don't have gainful employment, don't contribute to society, don't have happy family lives, and they get involved in drugs, crime, and excessive alcohol.

Did you witness at school?
by NomadSoul ini grew up being a witness.
i remember in elementary and somewhat in middle school i used to be really outspoken about being a witness.
i even had my own study with a classmate, which thankfully he lost interest because i was getting tired of it too.. but high school was a different story.

Only when I was trying to explain why I had to go to the library during Valentines day parties, Xmas Parties, Birthday parties, Halloween parties, and why I didn't salute the flag, play sports, and why I didn't plan on going to college......Oh, and why I was at their house the previous Saturday morning all dressed up while they were home watching cartoons.
I guess I did spend a lot of time witnessing at school. I had a lot of 'splainin' to do.
