I was acquainted with a brother and his wife for a bit down there. He was hispanic and a former police officer. She was white and was raised a JW. I can't remember their names for the life of me. Also, someone who owned a "Trim-line" or Auto Trim-Design franchise.

I attended the Brandon Cong. for a very brief time when I was working in Pelahatchie about 15 years ago, but I was never a member of the cong.

I think I know the answer, but can I be in a "worldly wedding"?
by ex360shipper inwell for those of you who don't know i am on the long slow fade.
i do not go to meetings at all anymore, it has been 10 months since i last stepped foot in a kh, went to dc last year and will go to memorial for my mother.. good friend of mine, catholic, told me he is popping the question monday.
i know it will be in a catholic church.

as long as it is a secular wedding and NOT in a church or officiated by a member of the clergy, you're clear. To be in a wedding in a church officiated by a member of the clergy is viewed as taking part in false religious practices and it is a disfellowshipping offense. I was in my brother's wedding in an Episcopal church. I was still a JW at the time (though not active). It was one of the things I eventually got DF'd for.

Does anyone else love Willie and Kris but miss Johnny and Waylon?
by dinah ingot to following a post and ran into ol' kris.
they don't write songs like that anymore..

I loved all those guys. I really liked them individually and didn't care much for the "Highwaymen" group. I got to see Willie in concert a few months ago. Absolutely the best show I've ever been to. Just him, his guitar, a snare drum, bass, harmonica, and his sister on piano.
I grew up on Waylon, Willie, Kris, and Johnny. Some of the best music ever. As a songwriter myself, I have always tried to emulate Kris' writing style. He could write in a way that made you visualize what he was saying. Almost like a movie in your mind.

I don't think Ellen is all that funny. I don't particularly care for her. I don't think Jim Carey is funny either. But any company can hire anyone they want to sell their products. If you don't like it, don't shop there.

Suicide - How many do you know within the JWs
by Lady Lee inthw wts likes to play games with their statistics.
one interesting but truly tragic is the number of jwhovah's witnesses who commit suicie.. now i suspect that if a person commits suicide shortly before or after they are disfellowshipped then the elders would say that person wasn't a witness or that they had done something so terrible that they were too guilty to admit it and by their action of committing suicide they pretty much declared they were no longer a jw.. yup fancy talk to make sure any crap didn't fall on them.. so my question.. do you know of cases like this?
if so then can you answer a few more questions.. had this person been dfed or in real danger of being dfed or whatever the equivalent is if they were never baptized?.

I knew two. One was a pioneer who had a part on the CA the Saturday before he hanged himself from a bridge in north-central Indiana.
Another I grew up with who OD'd intentionally about a year ago. Funerals both by elders.

Draconian Rules for Attending "Special Convention"
by BluesBrother inbritish dubs are invited to attend a special convention next summer in dublin , irish republic.
o k, this kind of trip has been done many times before.
however i have never seen such a crude and rigid set of rules that would apply to their own people going on a trip, at their own expense of course.

Maybe I should know this, but I'm not familiar with a "Special Convention." I've been to each and every DC held when I was in, and to a couple International conventions, but I don't remember the term "Special Convention" Could someone explain what it is?
I am astounded by the ridiculous stipulations!!! No one who needs wheelchairs or oxygen???? You must pay for a 7 day stay???
The rules for the DC was one thing (It was a composite "thing") that started my thinking. I didn't like being told I couldn't buy food from a vendor, that I had to wait to cross the road until the pimply faced kid told me I could cross, that I couldn't stand in the aisle with my infant son to watch the drama, to be told to take my seat by some MS wannabe with an "Attendant" tag on, while the PO from my mom and dad's congregation spent most of the convention time in the concourse chatting it up with old friends of his.

i am a regular pioneer in my cong reading crisis of conscience.here goes...
by MsGrowingGirl20 ini'm on page 90 right now...the info is definitely new and gives me a totally diff view as to how i used to think of faithful and discreet slave.
i was thoroughly disgusted with the way the brothers handled the oral sex and leadership problem and the insight on the scriptures book...... still have alot of questions though.

Welcome MsGrowingGirl!
I love these threads!!! Many of us on this board are former pioneers, MS's, Elders, even a few special pioneers and gilead graduates. CofC was a real eye-opener for me about some things, but what really put me over the edge was In Search of Christian Freedom.
Again, Welcome!!! It's great to have you here!!
