KS10 Chapter Two Discussion

Where in the bible did Jesus give the commandment to judge? Judging people in the congregation seems to be what this book is about.

Preperation for Armageddon

i dislike the way that the publications promote such excitement for armageddon.

i have only ever met one jw that actually suggested that anyone dying beforehand may be fortunate as they will not have to face the horrors of armageddon.

anyway, it would make a lot of sense if the gb somehow focused on preservation during this time as many will die due to the nature of what will occur.

my thought is that witnesses are actually afraid of armageddon. they are afraid they havent done enough. they say they want armageddon to come and god's kingdom to bring about an earthwide paradise but none of them really want their non jw friends or family to die so it becomes a bit of a paradox.

He spoke of the pyramid, 1914 expectation of armageddon, and "If you die after 1975, it will be your own fault.".......sure strenghtens my faith that they're wrong.

i remember at the cong.

wt study, we were studying about the jews being led out of egypt by moses.

I remember at the cong. WT study, we were studying about the Jews being led out of Egypt by Moses. The conductor asked "What seeming advantages did the Egyptians have?".....One lady was called on and said....I kid you not......"Guns. The Egyptians had guns, but the Jews didn't have any weapons."

I looked over at my wife and said..."Did she just say "guns?"......She started laughing so hard she had to go to the bathroom to compose herself.

Anyone have any other strange comments or answers they remember?

i remember studying when i was about 13 or 14 with a pioneer brother from our hall.

i remember for some reason learning that it was necessary for there to be a continuous line of f&ds from jesus to our time.

does anyone recall why this is necessary?

I remember asking the question when it became obvious that there had to be a continuous line to the brother studying with me (he's now a C.O.) I asked: "Then who were the annointed before the Witnesses?"....He said "The society's position is that there has always been honest hearted Christians who rejected false teachings and until 1935, they were the F&DS".

I forgot all about the typical and antitypical bull crap.....the "antitypical jubilee" was a WT study I remember. It didn't make sense then and doesn't make sense now.

The WT has proclaimed itself "Jehovah's modern-day prophet." This is an indisputable fact. They claim to be "Jehovah's mouthpiece" and his "channel of communication."

On the other hand, they claim that they are spirit-directed and not "inspired." What is the difference????!!??

I would love for you to answer two questions: 1) what is the difference between being spirit directed and inspired? and 2) if they are not inspired, why do they require that their followers follow everything printed in the Watchtower as though it is inspired?

I can prophesy that you will not answer these questions because you cannot answer it without acknowledging the fallacy of the WTBTS.

BTW, can anyone answer: doesn't the new "Daniel's Prophecy" book allude to the distance from the printing presses to the convention where a book was released? I can't find my copy of the book.....guess I must have thrown it away.

Growing-up Witness was Wonderful ...Until My Bubble Broke

i was raised by a wonderful and close family.

i loved my congregation growing up.

when i would go to the meetings, i felt i could go to school the next day and deal with the pressures of that day.

I appreciate your story, Jade.

I too grew up a Witness and was deeply involved in all sorts of spiritual things. From talks, to pioneering, Circuit Assembly parts, Quick Builds. I know I have a different viewpoint from many of the others on this site, but there is nothing wrong with being a Witness. But you have to understand that baptism and dedication is to Jehovah and not to the Society. I look back and consider it somewhat of a blessing that we were witnesses because it protected me from many of the things my non-witness peers got involved in. I only associated with witnesses and that helped me live a Christian lifestyle.

That being said, one need not be a Witness to be a good Christian. Witnesses have not cornered the market on Christian living, love, or peace, or anything else. The biggest problem with the WTBTS is not their lifestyle, but their insistence that they are "Jehovah's Mouthpiece"....his "Channel of Communication". The fact is, they claim that they are not inspired, but merely "directed" by holy spirit. First, what is the difference. Second, If they are not inspired, why do they expect everyone to follow what is written in the WT as if it is inspired?

Anyway, I empathize with your struggle. Keep praying. Stay strong for your children and your husband. Remember, what makes a Christian is not what organization they belong to. It is how they live their life.
