It's rare, but he must be an exemplary teacher as well. For some cultish role they have is that the best teacher as an elder must conduct the watchtower.

Marc & Cora on YouTube causing unnecessary divisions
by jambon1 inwhat is it with this pair?
why do they have to constantly have a bitch about guys like john cedars?
a very recent video of them shows them calling him a 'village idiot' and making other disparaging claims.

Its nice that people can disagree and not be united in this issue. How one builds a bridge to understanding another person's viewpoint is not easy. Doesn't matter if your in or out.
I understand their opinion, and Cedars as well. I think they are closer to each other than they might be willing to admit. They just need to build a bridge to understand each other.

Why so few XJWs online?
by StephaneLaliberte innot too long ago, i posted a topic where i pointed out that there are about 1 million xjws alive right now.
that number only represented the disfellowshipped ones... didn't account for those who had become publishers and left or anyone else who got hurt by that group by proxy.
so, why are there so few of them online?

Everyone let's go in different ways. In addition not everyone can face their fears. Some run and done stand up, some do both. It's a mixed bag.
In addition for many who let go they are done and never ever wish to look at again.
I do think that there is a ton of exjws that don't know ttatt. Life got in that way

Shunning
by A Believer inyou guys do know that if you just leave and never go back you wont be disfellowshiped right?
i know people who have done exactly this.
you have to commit a sin and you or someone else has to tell a elder.

To all former Elders – what are your thoughts
by Tallon inif you were part of a judicial committee, and knowing what you know now, what was it like for you to sit on jc’s?
how did you feel if someone was reproved or df’d?
were you ever on a jc and you disagreed with someone being reproved or df’d and were overruled – how did you feel?

It destroyed me every time. I'm a father to real children so every JC felt like the worst thing one can ever do about helping someone in crisis.
I always felt like the rules would not allow you to disagree. But for some reason I found distributing was that people gave up like they wanted to be df, like they came in knowing it was over and they weren't worthy. It was odd to me at first, but I slowly realized that it's all based in designed fear by HQ. It's control not protection.

All that we ask is for the peodo database to be leaked to a responsible source, like a good law firm or journalist

What crime should elders report?
by kramer inso, i am trying to get my head around what the right position of elders should be when they come across crime is.. i think i get the issuess around clergy confidentiality - and how that might potentially be breached when they talk about it to other elders, let alone the police.. but if people are saying that elders - or clergy of another faith should report crime to the police when it is confessed to the, then where are the boundaries.. so if someone says they should report to police on a confessed example of child abuse, that's one thing.. how about reporting to police consensual sex between a 19year old and 15 year old - which is statutory rape in the uk.
how about criminal fraud if they come across it.
assault on a congregant?.

Personally I've felt that anything that would violate the commandant to love your neighbor should qualify.
Covers pretty much everything, and hey follows the Bible. Go figure
So that would include protecting your neighbors from pedophiles and murders and even abusers of spouses and kids.

slimboyfat joins the Mormons!
by slimboyfat ini know that some people on the board have experience of being mormons, so i would be interested in your feedback.
at church this afternoon it was an uncanny experience.
in the past i've read a lot about mormons, so i thought i was prepared in general for what it would be like.

I love when the Mormons visit me. I talk about the infamous salamander letter, south park, and the magic underwear.
My favorite thing is to also crack open a beer in front of them. My wife likes to make coffee when they are here as well.
They haven't visited me in a few years but hopefully they will. I have south park on cue to help. I'd recommend that before anyone joins they visit Reddit and check out exmormon first.
