In university while I was studying with JW's. I didn't understand all the acronyms and didn't bother to dig further into them, as it was all weird.
I remember it was the Orwellian World of Jehovah's Witnesses. It just seemed too far fetched to be real.
Nothing like being wrong.
Then while in, I did nothing for 12 years, and then boom, a googles news article then off to the internet.
there was a recent thread on the "quality" of converts to jws in recent years.
it wasn't a pretty picture, based on the thread contents.. well, the lack of depth isn't restricted to new converts.. in our clam this week, one of the principal points for review was this:.

in the last few weeks it seems that instead of one or two new posters a week we seem to be getting several every day.
many seem to be long time jw's who are troubled by the path of the organisation.
this is really encouraging to those of us who have been here sometime.. welcome!
I can't help but wonder if the cult is just evolving to the point that all you get is really in people, and that in turn drives other people to learn TTATT.
So soon all that will be left is jus the uber dub's. Which is really all the GB want, besides there money that is.
I can say I personally thought I might be one rare elder that escaped. This site proved me dead wrong on that. But I did notice that for all the former elders that I have read about, they all have the common theme of actually caring for people. Obedience trumps caring, and thus we have the uber dub division.

i feel like i need to vent my story out, as i feel quite helpless at the moment.. i'm 31 year old, married, father of toddler with another one on the way, due later this month.
i've been serving as elder for about 4 years now in a south florida congregation.
best of luck. I know how hard it is to step away, and the pain that goes with it.
One of the things that woke my wife up was an article on white blood cells in breast milk, where I had showed her and worked into one of our studies. I approached it with the I'm not sure if we should breast feed the child... It was her start.

but what amazes me is her jw family is accepting donations or has to resort to the very worldly people they look forward to being destroyed.

I hope this wakes up some minds.
I hope that all the apostates pick this up and show that the GB really doesn't care. Maybe that will work.

I actually disagree that the elders have a legal case in that they have only been orally implied to have the privilege. The catholic church actually has evidence in paper, so evidence to prove the privilege. All elders have is being told they do, its no different than everyone else is told they are now ministers when they are baptized. So if a 13 yr old gets baptized do they get the same privilege? Its a technicality rather than dealing with the denomination specific laws. Its the witnesses that have to prove that the elders had such privilege, rather than the other way around. Ignorance is not a defense under the eyes of the law.
Will be interesting to watch.
