What shocking stories did you ever hear about?
by Truthexplorer inas a pre-awakened ms, i heard of 2 stories that i found very shocking at the time.
please keep in mind, i was following wt blindly at the time and was part of what i thought was the true religion.
the first shocking story was when i attended a large meeting for elders and ministerial servants covering our circuit.

Rather than call the cops and get them to deal with a crime. Send over the elders to strong arm a confession out of a suicidal person and watch him blow his brains out after he closes the door. Thanks service department. -

Canada - Abuse allegations in Newfoundland casting a cloud over Jehovah's Witnesses
by OrphanCrow inhttp://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/newfoundland-labrador/abuse-allegations-jehovahs-witness-1.3401468.
abuse allegations in newfoundland casting a cloud over jehovah's witnessesallegations of abuse involving two members of the jehovah's witness religious movement in newfoundland have emerged, though details of the charges are protected by a court-ordered publication ban.

I can personally say that in a few cases known to me in Canada (BC, Alberta) that the society still stresses that its the family or victim that makes the decision to report to authorities. The Canadian Bethel's instructions are to send to brothers to directly confront the abuser with the intention to obtain confession. No confession information is handed to the police.
The society feels that the elders have minister exemptions (which don't exist in many provinces). I know that when I mentioned that we don't have exemption the body said we have to follow bethel. Nothing like the moment you realize you have to leave these guys.

New WT pdf tells children to report. Irony?
by wifibandit inpdf.
why won't watchtower tell abusers "i'm going to tell on you!
" and follow through with the proper authorities?
-
elderINewton
It's really just "I'm going to tell on you to the elders.".
In addition the publication ignores that most abusers are known, and in many cases control what the child sees.
Sad to see them try to back track. I wonder how long till this shows up as evidence in a court case.

In Canada its standard practice in urban halls to do this. But you must have someone sit by the doors at all times to not break fire codes. -

A cracking good JC! This is how it's done, folks.
by Island Man inin this jc the couple accused of apostasy, lay down some inconvenient and incontestable truths about the organization's teachings that leave the elders speechless - as far as them mustering any efforts to refute them.
oh and by the way, do you remember what geoffrey jackson said at the australian royal commission when he was asked about an inactive jw being called to account if the elders stopped by and find him celebrating the holiday?
don't worry if you've forgotten because the couple mentions it to the elders, you know, seeing as it's the very same reason why they're being accused of apostasy, thus proving geoffrey jackson's statements to be false!.

Well said Shadow.
I'd add that he should have threatened legal action rather than making trouble. In addition he should have included the watchtowers own documentation on there rebuttal from there arc.
They should have never admitted anything as well they followed the JW rules and that screws then over. Hostility never works when your dealing with a cult member, they get defensive. I viewed this whole experience as what not too do if you want to maintain family relationships.
Many other ways to handle this.

You made me get that theme song back in my head. Just love it when in the opening that guy says "it's a miracle".
I binge watched it but got bored pretty fast.

John firstly it's great to hear you. I was a touch worried as you were quiet for a while and I enjoy your thoughts and observations.
It's really terrifying that the old guard are waking up. What an interesting time.
Could explain why the gb is emphasizing we are "so close" just to keep them form leaving

Hello, I'm new here too!
by redpilltwice inhi everybody, 1st post here.
20 years jw, elder for 6 years, regular pioneer for 3 years, have always been following the 2012 candace conti abuse case with much interest, especially since the case suddenly disappeared from www.watchtower.com's news section (thanks brother j. r. brown, office of public information, because it led me to "worldly" websites for more info), leading to more and more dissatisfaction , leading to jwfacts, jwsurvey, ad1914, wtdocuments etc., leading to my awakening about 4 months ago, now fading faster and faster to zero meetings and zero field service...and you know what?
it feels good!.

The WT knew in 1922 that 1914 was wrong !
by Phizzy inin the may 1922 edition of the wt, page 133, rutherford is writing defending the work of russell and the 1914 doctrine, he quotes what some have said to prove russell was wrong :.
" "zedekiah was taken captive and jerusalem fell in the year 587 b. c.; thus showing that the full end of the gentile times and the fall of gentile governments is indicated to take place in 1934".. he goes on, in his own inimitable style, to disprove the above, but note, he is aware of the 587bce date for jerusalem's destruction.. if you are interested, you can read the whole mag here*, just click on pdf to read.. * https://ia700401.us.archive.org/19/items/1922watchtowerarticlesonchronology/1922_watchtower_articles_on_chronology.pdf.
