The latest generation change. It raised a major red flag, and made me question why Jehovah was causing his organization to keep changing its mind. Then I realized they conveniently did away with the 1935 sealing of the anointed as the number of memorial partakers kept going up.

what flipflops caused you to think?
by cheerios inwhile posting on another thread, i thought of this.
for me, it was the "we never said you couldn't go to college" flipflop in the mid 1990s.
when ofc we all know that to be an utter lie.. now that i think about it, their literature is written with future flipflopping mind.

I can't really seek professional help. Any self-help suggestions for depression?
by easyreader1970 ini really don't have the time or the finances for a professional psychiatrist.
i know i am depressed and i know why.
the problem, as i have said before in one or two other threads, is that the solution won't really change my depression and may, in fact, make it worse.. so i am resigned to being depressed but would like to know if there are some coping techniques or other suggestions.

I went to a counselor and they recommended reading this book: Feeling Good by David Burns
You can usually find it at used book stores or the library. It's a lot to read, but it may help.
This one was also recommended: The Depression Cure

I found it very helpful to talk to someone, and I hope you can find someone to talk to as well who doesn't charge too much.

Latest apostate warning in Feb 15 2011 Watchtower
by dozy inandre, who had served jehovah for years, had the bitter experience of being led astray.

That heading made me chuckle.
I appreciated the warning at the DC this summer against atheists and evolution. It made me realize these "threats" were actually exposing their religion as a lie and needed to be further examined.

Thank you for posting, I no longer "qualify" for these either. Reading the presentations on the back makes me realize why no householder listened out on service! They sound really dumbed down.

It's Really Just a Social Club
by Eiben Scrood inat least for many..... i remember looking around at meetings and so many in the audience seemed to be in another world.
people would get up and talk at the back shamelessly.
meetings were a good opportunity to make plans with friends.

It really is. There are cliques who do a lot socially together, and then there people on the fringe. Fortunately I was on the fringe, and saw through the fakeness and lack of love. Now I have real friends who aren't JWs, and I've never been happier!

Unitarian Universalist Church, does anyone here have any experiences?
by cyberjesus ini found a dvd about evolution and great ways to teach it to children, i discovered that is promoted at uuc, it seems that the group is oriented towards acceptance and not totalitarianism.
since i like to associate with others who think the same way i would like to know what do you think about them?.

I went last Sunday to a session about simplicity. They opened with a cool poem about the stars and lit a candle. It was pretty interesting, although I found it was more like a discussion group where you share your thoughts and feelings. I was the youngest there by 30 years. Most people were in their late 60s-80s!
The people were really friendly, and in tune with their feelings. I learned alot, but I don't think I will go back. I'm not used to sitting for 2 hours anymore!
We sang one song, and everyone held hands which was kinda nice.

The Holiday Thread
by SweetBabyCheezits in[i'm sure this thread comes up several times a year by us noobs but it's new for me.
btw, i'm not advocating or opposing the celebration of holidays, just giving a perspective we've taken recently.].
okay, so before we got df'd a few weeks back, we weren't sure if we were going to start celebrating holidays... for a few reasons:.

I love the holidays too, and I hope I can celebrate them one day. We didn't have any traditions or special dinners growing up, and I don't want to pass that sad legacy to my children. My husband isn't in or out, but he isn't ready to celebrate holidays yet. So I'll be trying to celebrate the season of winter instead and decorate with snowflakes and nature items. And have a nice big dinner and try to win him over with food.
I'm excited to bake shortbread cookies and other "festive" treats!

Yoga
by letsslatejws inwhy was there such a fuss about not doing yoga?.
i did my first yoga class today and whilst you are encouraged to not think about your days worries, you can hardly consider this vacating your mind, so as to let satan in!
it was more about holding stretching limbs and simply holding poses (such as holding your leg out straight etc).

I'm in a prenatal yoga class right now and love it. It is a great workout and so relaxing. I leave feeling so peaceful and refreshed, no wonder why witnesses are encouraged not to do it!
I also tried a beginners yoga class, and there was nothing about emptying my mind or inviting demons in. Just how to relax and stretch your body.
