My wife and I have begun our fade
by James Jack ini haven’t posted in awhile.
my wife asked me after the year 2000 came and went without fanfare(because the wt organization said all the “new world” would be here within this 20th century would end), “ what would it take for you to leave the truth?”.
my reply was “ if i turn 60 in this “system of things”.

Shifting tides
by lastmanstanding insexual abuse never permissible.
assuming that the montana supreme court’s recent opinion in the jehovah’s witnesses case (nunez v. watchtower bible, 2020 mt 3) sets forth the state of the law, then the law needs to be changed.. .
first, no person should be allowed to sexually or physically abuse another person — minor or adult — and be protected from the consequences of that heinous act by a shape-shifting religious rule, protocol or doctrine.

I agree with these realistic improvements re the child and adult sexual abuses.
A crime is a crime........ a sin like sexual abuse is both.......but it's still a crime first and foremost.
Many religions shield themselves by claiming these are their religious beliefs like the two witness rule re the JW's. Or the charity tax evasions that a number of religions hide under.
Change is a must when it comes to any institutions, be it a non profit, a university, or a so called religion like the Mormons that have amassed 100 billion dollars for the purpose of funding Charities when the reality is they have collected and grown their holdings and managed not to spend a penny on any charitable programs. The JW Corporation and Scientology join in this same tax evasion crime.
The Catholic Church does spend money on it's charities but what does one do about a criminal record of 1970 plus years permitting sexual child abuse and adult rape. Recent reporting indicates it is still going on.
The first amendment in the US Constitution and many over countries...... provides for freedom of religion... but also police powers to redress any grievances. That's the issue this has come down to.

After the death of a spouse, how long did people wait to get remarried?
by RubaDub ini was on the phone with a long-time friend from my original congregation north of new york city and she told me that the 'shit hit the fan' when a brother (long-time elder i know well) got remarried about 6 weeks after his wife died.. he was about 60 and his new wife (a pioneer that i also know) was about 50 and had never been married.. it became a huge issue when the co came.
due to all the talk and chatter in the congregation, he even included in one of his talks without naming names, that marriage is something sacred and that when and how people get married is a personal matter as long as it conforms to bible standards.. anyway, it shut everybody up.
any similar experiences in your current/former congregations?.

In a general sense one of two things can happen. A beloved mate passes away. It's a very difficult thing to get through. The greater the marriage the greater the loss. Dealing with that loss may take years and many people refuse to remarry.
On the other hand you can't stand the loss of your companion. You miss their company, the silly stuff, the laughter. You miss not having that person in your life. At some point you reach out and try to find companionship.
In the JW world, dating, spending quality time with a person alone can be difficult under the watchful eyes of the Elders and the congregation. The person this brother married may have been someone that he and his wife had known and liked for any number of years.

Were You Willing To Die For Jehovah?
by minimus inwe were supposed to be dedicated unconditionally to jehovah god.
we were willing to be persecuted to the death if need be.
if it came to taking a blood transfusion or dying, we were loyal to jehovah and would be a martyr for god.

The answer to this question is...NO!
I knew at sixteen that Jehovah was a made up name for a god that didn't exist. And the WTBTS was a made up religion that did exist....unfortunately.
If we were told that we had to die for the WTBTS that would put an honest face on the question of human sacrifice.
For those that lost family and close friends because the WT said that they had to die for want of a life saving blood transfusion...... Welcome to Jonestown...... pretend poison drinking practice is held 3 evenings a week....... everyone is welcome.

My Grandmothers Funeral
by Enrique Tomlinson 1 inmy beloved grandmother has passed away and her funeral is next week at a kingdom hall.
she was a loyal jw, and unfortunately i am not understanding of the funeral procedures.
please could you kindly explain what what will happen in the funeral?
-
Giordano
I am sorry for your loss. I am also sorry that you will have to endure the waste of time a JW funeral service is.
I have attended four close family funeral services over a 30 year period who were 'memorialized' for being a JW. Usually this personal part took 3 to 10 minutes. The next 30 to 40 minutes is a religious corporate recruitment talk....... and self congratulation about how wonderful being a JW is.

Which songs give you goosebumps?
by LoveUniHateExams ini don't know if this topic has been covered before - it might 've been.. i also recommend flipper's excellent music thread ('what songs have you been listening to?
', or similar).. but, i'd just like to start a thread about certain songs giving me goosebumps.
y'know, when you hear a song that profoundly effects you in some difficult-to-describe way and the hairs on your arm stand on end even though the room temperature's comfortably warm.. so, which songs give you goosebumps?.

I've got a better one...... well sort of....... the Kennedy Center tribute to Led Zeppelin.
The band now is considerably older... Robert Plant, guitarist Jimmy Page, bassist/keyboardist John Paul Jones.... then you may remember as they sit in the audience waiting for their final tribute.
Here is what you will see and experience: The Final song is Stairway to Heaven.
Heart........ with Nancy and Ann's vocal and guitar and Jason Bonham on drums is only the start. Slowly each section of the song adds more performers.
It starts to peak with the colossal Jimmy Page guitar solo...some consider maybe the greatest rock solo ever. It's really short so you need to pay attention.
Ann and Nancy Wilson of Heart, along with Jason Bonham, playing Stairway to Heaven as a tribute.
Robert Plant looks concerned having women sing his song and in general looks upset at the presentation of Stairway to Heaven.....until.
The Jimmy Page solo by one of the Kennedy Center's core of musicians nails the solo. Page's look of joy told everyone he loved the performance.
During all of this time singers were slowly coming on stage. After the Page solo you can see the families of Zed LEP can't believe their eye's. The stage now has another 30 to 40 more singers who were hidden.
This was a great tribute and performance. If heaven is anything like this..... count me in.

Adam could have put Jehovah In Paradox!
by JohnTron72 ini'm going to be the first and throw this out there for others but, from careful study of the scriptures i've found a loophole that even adam who was perfect at the time missed!
i'm sure everyone has heard the conundrum about ,"can god create a rock he can't lift?
" and if he can't create one he can't lift, then god cannot do everything" well that doesn't really matter since we know jehovah says himself he cannot lie right?

There's no Adam for gods sake! It's ancient Jewish bull shit based on even more ancient historical fictions.
Lets take a look at the fiction of the Flood. In an insane moment God decides to kill every animal and human on the planet because they are evil. However a small number can take refuge in an ark.
According to the Bible account God caused the death of anyone and thing not on the ark.
Of course there is no record of a world wide flood....no evidence. Doesn't matter..... as it is uneducated religious idiots that maintain that a flood happened.
So here's my point. God wants everyone dead except those on the ARK because otherwise they are all wicked. Every man, women and child? They all deserved to die.
Here's your first Jim Jones moment. They all deserved to die..... even the unborn.
So........ what about the unborn? They deserved to die cause this god said so. I suppose with his innate ability to read the future they were all destined to be wicked and deserved to die in their mommies tummy.
Unfortunately history tells us that the world after this phony flood .....returned to it 's norm...a world of good and bad.
Of Course with this god's ability to see the future somehow he did not have the ability of seeing that the world would return to evil practices.
After all of this....... God is now a colossal failure.
I have one final thought........why didn't he send his son down to that wicked pre flood world with an army of angles to clean up his mess?

All I can say is WOW! I'd like to get more confirmation on this.
Japan has had an up and down road growing the JW presence...in fact what I understand is little to no growth where once Japan was sited as a strong JW participant.
Can we get more info as to how and why these Elders resigned.

Rec'd a letter from my Dad - need some advice...
by Fadeaway3pointer infader here - last meeting was in autumn 2005. lurker on this site and others.
not one to get all controversial.. typical situation, pretty much a born in and left the church at age 38 and never looked back.. i'm 53 now, parents getting older - late 70s but very active, dad is still an elder.. parents, in laws, brother and brother-in-law still uber active jws.. my family (wife and 2 adult children) out since 2005.. we have stayed close to our parents - we have treaded religion lightly and have had a pretty good relationship and have kept our personal lives and beliefs/opinions separated from them.
this was intentional - as we love them and do not want anything to cause shunning since they are getting older and want to be there for them and we respect their beliefs.. got this letter today.

Yes it hurts....but your dad and mom.... are longing for everlasting life. That belief is more important then you.
You are not part of that deal. You can't be on a paradise earth with them and not believe in the Corporation..... the WTBTS.
In truth they don't believe in a religion....just a made up corporation that thought becoming an official religion would save them taxes.
It could have been Amway which would have been a more sane choice..... unfortunately it was the JW's.......no real difference between them they each sold a product door to door. But on family matters one remained part of their family and the other was shunned.

I can just imagine the hype that is going on in Australia about how close armageddon is now with all of these bushfires occurring.
by smiddy3 init brings to mind my niece when she see`s how dry the countryside is ,how armageddon must be so close..

smiddy3.... No it has nothing to do with Brush fires it has everything to do with JW pedophiles. When they get on board.... belief wise... they can start to see what the end looks like for them. A disgusting religion.
