The fly in the ointment is that Jesus got seriously crucified something the Jews were not looking for in their Messiah. They had it figured out that their Messiah was going to be a warrior king. So since early Christianity was Jewish his believers had to come up with a reason for his death and manner of. With need being the mother of invention.........they invented a story. See they said this is why it happened. You know it would have been a better story if he had lived. Jesus we hardly got to know you.

Redemption, Salvation, Atonement? The fly in the ointment
by SweetBabyCheezits ini posted this paine quote in the middle of another thread but thought it deserved its own.
this principle eluded me before reading the age of reason.
it's such a simple, basic concept of justice and yet so many christians miss it (as i did) or ignore it.. .

The Bible as inerrant and complete, or sufficient.
by dgp ini think we will agree that the wt holds it that the bible is the inerrant word of god.
this is an idea that i just learned from a blog.. the idea is very, very simple:.
the bible is considered "inerrant" and "sufficient".. meaning, it contains no errors, but it is also all you need for salvation.

Nobody's Child
by mrsjones5 ini just read an article in this month's vogue magazine about a woman who was raised in an extreme cult.
i found i could relate to some of her experiences and i thought maybe folks on the board might be interested enough to read about it.
here's her story (don't worry i don't paste funky links): nobody's child.

Is "Kingdumb Hall" really an offensive term?
by cyberjesus inif a friend of mine starts to say things out of emotion and i call him "schizophrenic" then that might be an insult.
however if he is having auditory hallucinations, paranoid or bizarre delusions, or disorganized speech and thinking then that word becomes a description of his situation.. now i ask you.
does the attendance to the kh promote intelligence?

A lot of folks on this board have been damaged by the organization Nick. We can only estimate how many have been treated badly. In my extended family 80% have experienced unacceptable behavior from persons in authority. If there is a god every religion will have to answer for it's sin's.........a pleasent thought.

Welcome Applehippie. My wife and I walked out together in time for the first Woodstock! We left because of the blood issue and because the concept that billions of innocent people were going to die at armageddon was a self serving delusional belief. Because of those two issues I consider JW's a death cult. Odd how Jesus never mentioned either doctrine.
Our path led us to being non believers. We are self sufficent within our own hearts and minds fully reconciled to the relative short life term we will live only hoping that we will leave this world in slightly better shape in some small way. My story can be found on the search engine if you need an amusing read.

"Who else are we to go away to?"
by simon17 into the intellectually honest witness, it seems like it often comes down to this principle.
"fine, if the witnesses aren't the truth, then show me the better answer and i'll consider it.
" and how do you deal with that?

Meteorite 'could have carried nitrogen to Earth'
by unshackled ininteresting article from bbc news today, posted the text below but here is the direct link:.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-12597564?utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter .
this is not a dramatically "new" discovery (this has been hypothesized before) but the findings from this actual meteorite are pretty cool.

The 'habitable zone' is important........to us. But based on the extreme forms of life thriving in uninhabitale locations throughout this planet and more being discovered every year it might not be the determining factor. In which case 'life' may be more plentiful then anyone has anticipated. Unfortunately some of that life might enjoy the taste of humans (lol).
Nothing would surprise me when it comes to life in space, I have a master's degree in Star Treck.

This is a great thread! For those that don't know that much about Woodstock 1969 the first link is an overview, the second Santana's great performence and crowd reaction.
Also this: It wasn't held at Woodstock, they had to change locations. They finally ended up in the societies backyard at Bethel N.Y.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TJ4QF45Vygw
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dLDalZ4-53g Nudity alert in the begining and some nude guy carrying a ram or sheep, later on.
The band and especially the drummer had partied hardy the night before and he was ready to upchuck.....he kept control and turned in a classic performance, Then Santana............ young and almost unknown turned in his classic quitar solo. Check out the girl with the glasses who by her expression was way into that solo.

- It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, it was the season of Light, it was the season of Darkness, it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair, we had everything before us, we had nothing before us.....................Charles Dickens, A Tale of Two Cities
- That about sums it up.
By the time I got out and lost my deferment (a calulated risk) that war had been going on for a while and then it just got worse.
The music was the best it was going to be for a long while. It was new and exciting. Woodstock!!
No internet so no ex JW support........... you had to crawl out of the 'truth' with a match instead of the bright lights ex JW's have today.
You had to walk across the room to turn the chanel on the TV! Talk about hard times LOL.
