im new to this forum, most topics up for discussion are usa centric, and thus for us euro,s are boring, like whats on your tv chanels, wtf, who cares what your watching on tv,i dont come here to listen to that, either promote something intresting, or shut the hell up .

Desirous when I first started reading posts back in October I couldn't believe the fractured sentence structure of a number of posters. Just terrible. Some of them sounded illiterate. Then I started to realize in most cases they were writing in a second language. How many other languages can I speak? None. Word of advice to self shut the heck up about their English. Many are now some of my favorite posters.

Harsh language is an issue for many of us older ex JW'S. We also tend to be uncomfortable with smutty language. In my experience weak minded people like to drop the F bomb. I guess they think it makes them sound manly. Actually it makes them sound trashy.

Those that post intelligently and civilly are our most respected and valuable assets.They speak with a well earned authority. Those that use language to shock or bully earn no creditability. And we are well rid of them.

my intro to the world of wine was my jw parents buying a huge screw-top bottle of paul masson or gallo red or white, having half a glass, and sticking it out on the back porch thinking that wine stayed good like that.

The VERY best cheap wine was 2 buck chuck (Charles Shaw) purchased at Trader Joes. By the time I discovered it it was up to $2.95 . In it's day it was a great wine factoring in the price. I did a blind taste test at a party one night and guests thought it was $10 to $30 (that person was sitting in the cornor just about passed out so his opinion probably doesn't count) bottle of wine. When they found out the real price it was like a religious revival. Arm's in the air, praise the lord and lets open a couple of more bottles. Unfortunatly the last time I got a case 2 buck chuck had fallen down to oh hum. Maybe they started planting the vines too close together or something.

But, you really do not want to mess around with this one, because they all sing a different tune a few minutes later. And by tune, I mean the psychotic ramblings of a raging naked bum.

How Much Did It Cost You Financial Being or Leaving The Witnesses

it these tough economic times many of us have looked back at the decisions we made concerning money with much dismay.

the organization has cost many people 100's of thousands of dallors or more over the course of their life time.. 1. all the time and gas spent on knocking on doors.. 2. brothers that ripped you off in business.. 3. all the money i gave my exwifes dead beat relatives.. 4. making just minumum wage for two years of poineering.

than going to bethel for four years making only $22 a month, 9 dallors of which went for subway tokens.

After I left I always felt I was ten years behind the curve in friendships, earnings and busness, owning a home and of course education. When I was 30 I still felt like a twenty year old, when I was forty I felt like a 30 year old in experience, wisdom etc. Still trying to figure things out. But by the time I was fifty I had caught up and surpassed my goals plus I felt like I was 40! My wife and I retired at 55. We each do what we want. We live in a great town we hand picked, tons of friends and life is good. The JW life never missed it for a minute.

How far are you on your journey away from the JW Org?

i mentally left the org in march 2010. i stepped down as an elder after my lad got into trouble.

i researched the publications to make myself 'spiritually strong' but it backfired.. i was in mental and emotional turmoil, still on fs, the platform and meetings etc.

i had to force myself to conform to ever failing jw doctrine.. i announced to my family that i was not going back to meetings in august 2010 after the 'overlapping' joke of 'new light'.. i told the elders not to call.

My wife and I left in the late 1960's. Her leaving with me was a hugh break. We'd both been in for around ten years through high school and then pioneered etc. and we were both fairly casual about the religion. I always thought it was more BS then anything else (we both had non believing fathers so maybe that was the life line).

No outside help so we had to do it the old fashioned way we had to think our way out, lol! Probably would have become a 'bystander' for our families sake if they allowed it. A bystander is like a witness except they stand arround and don't get involved. But In the JW world there is no compromise for a lapsed witness, and there is a pecking order and at the bottom only sadness and contemp. So we said fine and moved away from the congo and then we were on our own. One or two visits from a couple of long time friends who were no more accepting of our position then our family members showed me it was over. We were pretty determinded and we just accepted that all of the people who we liked and who liked us were not going to be in our lives any longer.

Leaving wasn't a problem, the witnesses weren't so shun crazy back then so our families talked to us and we visited. But being an ex was always the 800 pound gorilla in the room.

Eventually we started our family. A big part of leaving had to do with getting away from the blood issue and the time one needed to spend as a 'good' witness.

Four decades later it is still one of the best escapes we ever made. You know what I regretted most? That I subjected my wife to those incrediably boorish family visits two and three times a year. I wished they had shunned us or at least I had limited my time with them. Their love was conditional therefore worthless.

You don't have to vote for idiots J.H. You can leave those votes blank or you can write in a candidate of your own. Historically there is enough evidence that your vote does count......not every time but some times it came down to a small group.

The closest election in Senate history was decided on September 16, 1975. The 1974 New Hampshire race for an open seat that pitted Republican Louis Wyman against Democrat John Durkin led to a contest that lasted eight months and came down to a margin of victory of just TWO votes.

I live in a small city of 7,000 and voting is very very important. A couple of bad city council person's or school board members can really impact local conditions. I don't care if you live in a big city ..........politics is always local and your collective vote counts if not so much on the national level certainly on the local level and state level. If witnesses don't want to vote because they have embraced a delusional belief system that's sad. If you don't vote your an idiot.

Were you afraid of Armageddon?

i was dfd in 1995 however i still believed it was the truth until 2009. and until then i was fearful of armageddon's day.. i remember every time i'd see a dark sky with thunders and lighting i would question if that was it.

the news of any major disaster, hurricanes earthquakes would ignite fear inside me and i would think that could be the beginning of the end.. when i was around 8 i remember going to visit my grandma and she was watching the news.

a major conflict in the middle east had ended and some president said that the world was not in peace.

For those born in and those who were true believers I understand the fear and concern. But it was a turd of a belief, even as a teenager I knew that no matter how hard they tried to sell us on the idea it was still crap. My wife and I left in the 1960's right after they announced 1975 we walked out laughing.

My first true break through as a bible student was........if Jesus didn't mention it forgetaboutit!
