Need Help with Blood Transfusion Illustration
by Dissonant15 inplease, who can provide an intelligent rebuttal to the following illustration?
i always thought it was bullet-proof:.
"if your doctor directs you to 'abstain from alcohol' would you be ok to have it injected into your veins rather than drink it?

It can't be the same. For blood transfusions a person needs a very specific blood type. If it's not compatible the person would die. He could eat any blood without this adverse affect. -

The Loyalty Question
by choosing life inhow many here have been asked the loyalty question by an elder.
i am referring to, "do you believe that jehovah is using the faithful and discreet slave class to accomplish his work?
" or something along this line?.

Great question WiFi bandit. I don't remember the issue being made so clear in the flock book and it appears to be a stock standard question from elders. -

New Light - GT as the cut-off point
by berrygerry ina redditor caught this in w15 7/15 p. 15 par.
5. should we conclude, though, that the destruction of the religions of babylon the great results in the death of all the former members of those religions?
apparently not.. .

It also suggests that most religious people will be killed at the same time that their religion is destroyed or no longer exists.
When they have talked about the destruction of btt in the past, I thought they just meant religions, not people.

Royal Commission National Redress Scheme. Average of $65,000 per victim, not including psychological fees and admin costs.
by Lemonp inthe royal commission published it's redress report today.
it is a 668 page document, but it is very interesting.
all the recommendations they make are in harmony with what all other institutions will accept.

I wonder who will be paid. It is unlikely to be the 1006 cases that the wtbts has on file. It might be the cases that have been reported to the commission. It might only be the cases where an elder or ms is involved. -

I just had two female JWs visit, one in their 30s and the other about 20.
They invited me to their convention to learn about Jesus, they said it is three days long but I don't need to attend every day and she highlighted one session at 11.15am where I could learn about Jesus.
I said to her that I wouldn't be interested in attending the convention because I believed what a man called Rutherford said about religion being a snare and a racket. They wanted to know who this Rutherford guy was and after explaining knew who I was talking about.
I asked them about the RC & JWs and asked if they were disappointed in how the organization had dealt with victims. They said they weren't disappointed at all to which I said I was shocked. They then went on about men being imperfect. I pointed out what some of the problems had been (young abused children being questioned by 3 elders and their stand in not reporting to police, not encouraging it and only not discouraging it). Also the fact that they have known for years that these problems have existed and done nothing about it and as the one an only channel with HS they demonstrate that they aren't able to correct their mistakes. I said that if the GB were really guided by HS they would be obvious by their 'fruits' and the child abuse cases had not made this evident.
I then talked to them about their teaching that Jesus is only their mediator in prayer and they are taught that he is not their mediator through which we gain forgiveness of sins and the New Covenant. They were happy to look at the scripture in 1 timothy 2:5 and said that they did not know this to be the case. They asked how old the teaching was so I explained that it is still currently taught and showed them how to look it up in their library. I then explained that this teaching has further ramifications in that they are not considered to be God's children in the truest sense or part of the body of Christ, that only the anointed were. They were also astounded that their teaching was that they could not consider God to be their father in the truest sense, again only the anointed were. I mentioned that there is a recent magazine that highlights this but they said they hadn't noticed.
They said that they were truly sincere in following the bible and would research these things. They said it was wonderful how I had done research and was refreshing as they hadn't met anyone at home this morning and the ones they did weren't interested in the bible. She mentioned coming back so if she was sincere in her comments she will return but its highly unlikely. I mentioned that it was important to do ones own research and not believe everything that the Governing Body taught and when they sat down to do their prestudy to read the context when scriptures were quoted to see if it was appropriate to quote a particular scripture to support a conclusion in the magazines.
She mentioned the anointed a number of times and something about HS and her admiration of them was obvious.
What I found interesting was a point she brought to my attention that I hadn't considered before. She talked about the hierarchy and that we need leaders. She said God was at the top, then Jesus, then the anointed and then the followers. This is when I realized that this structure no longer exists and pointed this out to her. There is the article that explains that the anointed are not special and do not have any special positions and neither is the HS that they receive greater than other spiritual men. Also, since 2013 only the GB is the FDS and the rest of the anointed (including the GB as individuals) are part of the domestics just like the other sheep. This meant that the structure was God, Jesus, the GB/FDS and the followers.
At this point I could see she was getting upset. She had made the point that the GB were anointed and God had appointed them because as anointed they were special. I said to her that these men professed to be anointed to which she said 'they are anointed'. I said to her that it we were not in a position to make judgement over these men and say definitively that they are, instead only God and Jesus had that authority to make that judgement. She was flabbergasted and asked the younger lady what she thought. It was so funny when the younger lady went totally off topic.
I didn't want to argue with these ladies but at the same time I did not want to be preached at, so I didn't labour on any one point. They were also in the mode of drop the invitation and move on so it was surprising that they stayed as long as they did.
What was really puzzling was the fact that they pointed out that I knew so much and they would love to see me at a meeting but not once did they ask me why or knew so much or if I had ever been a JW. I think this lady might have just been happy to talk, as long as it was about the bible.
There were a few older men walking past, no doubt elders and as soon as she mentions the discussion to them, all thought of doing any research will be wiped from her mind.

OSCE (The Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe
by Paul Bonanno ini have noticed that the jws are participating in meetings organized by the osce.
they are registered or participate under the "european association of jehovah's christian witnesses".
one point highlighted in this organization is tolerance.

It appears that being an NGO participant at hearings requires little in relationship to the OSCE. This is unlike NGO Associate requirements in regards to the UN
This is from a report on the OSCE website
NGOs have played a vital role in the OSCE process since its very beginning. The OSCE participating States recognize that NGOs have valuable roles to fulfil in resolving conflicts, promoting tolerance, reporting on human rights issues, delivering humanitarian aid, conflict prevention and early warning. The OSCE has a policy of openness towards NGOs: it has no definition of a non-governmental organization and applies no criteria in its activities and relationship with NGOs other than that they shall not support terrorist activities. The OSCE works with relevant NGOs whether registered or not. The ODIHR has been asked by a participating State to assist it in the drafting of a new law on associations.

From reading the whole report I gather that NGO status is generally obtained from the entities own Government and they must meet their requirements.

Vinman,
Regarding the K2 STB Fund Ltd, the link Sammy (OP) provided shows the original document filed by the Fund with the U.S. Government's Security & Exchange Commission and lists the WTBTS as the Beneficial Owner and that 40 million had been invested.
http://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/vprr/07/9999999997-07-048801
As for the WTBTS's investment in the JW Morgan Liquid Assets Money Market Fund, the link in my above posts shows this information as recorded also on the U.S. Government's Security & Exchange Commission website.
What's so interesting about this information is that it is definite proof that they have been investing in the money market and hedge funds. We knew that they had been attending seminars on these types of investments but this is the first time that I have seen proof that they have actualy invested WTBTS money into them. Also, it is clear that they are desperate for money and have upped their strategies to obtain it from the congregations, JWs, the sale of Kingdom Halls and the Bethel selloffs. The question is, where has all their money gone? They are losing money in court cases but they may have lost a lot due to risky investing when the market crashed several years ago.

Data Dog
Is this information available to the public? Does the WTBTS really have $500,000,000.00?? Inquiring minds want to know!!
No, as far as I can tell, the fund is set up as K2 STB Fund Ltd being a fund set up in 2007 dealing in Hedge Funds. This fund does not appear to be owned or controlled by the WTBTS as the WTBTS has only invested into it. The limit of the fund is 500 million. The Fund shows that only $40 million was sold and bought by the WTBTS, it doesn't look like any other entity has bought into it.
In 2011 the Form D filing shows that there still remained one investor with their investment amount being 40 million. The Form D in 2012 shows that there were no investors and no money invested in the Fund. It doesn't show what happened to it and how much money was returned (if any) to the one investor, being the WTBTS. Since this was before the market crash it would be interesting to know how much funds were lost.
