Preaching? For what purpose? All JW's need to ask this question.
by park ave boy inwhat is the purpose of preaching if not for converts?.
basically, preaching by the jw's is to make converts.
this in itself implies that jehovah's witnesses believe that they alone have the only acceptable way to god and that everyone else is just not worthy.

Court denies summary judgement for Laurel Jehovah's Witnesses congregation
by OrphanCrow incourt denies summary judgement for laurel jehovah's witnesses congregation.
a motion for summary judgement is denied in a case against the laurel congregation of jehovah's witnesses and some individuals over child abuse reporting issues.a lawyer for the congregation maintained that elders were exempted from reporting requirements under a state law because of clergy privilege and confidentiality.the case resulted from allegations that elders did not report an unlawful sexual relationship between a woman and a 14-year-old boy, both of whom were members of the jehovah's witnesses congregation.. download the court opinion here.

Dilemma of the Confessional
It's so sad to see a religion that once thought it was the right thing to report crimes to authorities to protect other people was, without question, the right thing to do. Even emphasizing the point with an exclamation mark and that it was 'fantastic' that the Catholic Church put themselves under constraint not to do so.
SUPPOSE you had a dear friend who was soon to be hanged for a murder he was innocent of, convicted upon perjured and circumstantial evidence. Then suppose the murderer came to you and confessed his guilt. Would you not immediately notify the police so that your innocent friend would not need to die? Of course you would! But if you were a Roman Catholic priest, and this man had confessed to you, you would have to stand helplessly by as your dear friend died for a murder he did not commit. Fantastic? Not according to Catholic theologians.
Thus the Catholic Herald, London, England, May 9, 1952, in its question column published the following: “Can the seal of confession be broken by a priest in the interests of justice, e.g., in such a grave matter as murder? No. Nothing whatever, except the consent of the penitent (which he can never be obliged to give), can release a priest from the seal. . . . even if the circumstances were such that the priest thought it the criminal’s duty to give himself up—even to save an innocent life—the priest himself could never make use of knowledge which does not belong to him at all, but only to God.”
Two actual incidents illustrate the foregoing: “Returns Bank Loot, Won’t Bare Thief. Priest’s Lips Sealed. . . . part of the money taken by a repentant bank robber has been returned by a Denver priest to whom he confessed, but authorities still don’t know his identity. The Roman Catholic priest, with a ‘sacred obligation’ to reveal nothing heard in the confessional, yesterday returned to authorities $6,850 in bills he said was part of $7,780 taken in a daylight robbery here Feb. 17. . . . The United States attorney said the priest promised to relay a message that partial return of the money would not absolve the robber of ‘criminal responsibility.’ ‘I hope now that he will decide to clear his conscience entirely by coming to the proper authorities,’ said [attorney] Kelley.”—Los Angeles Herald & Express, April 13, 1955.
The second incident was reported by The Inland Register, a Spokane, Washington, Roman Catholic weekly, August 14, 1953. It told of an item that appeared in the London Times regarding a priest to whom a certain convict, thinking he was dying, confessed as having committed the crime for which another man was serving a sentence. The convict recovered, but upon his death, a year later, the priest revealed his confession, causing the innocent man to be set free. It was pointed out that even death does not free a priest from his seal, and that if true, this was perhaps the first time in history in which a priest broke his seal and revealed what had been told him in a confession.
Look out: perhaps there may be some man that will carry you off as his prey through the philosophy and empty deception according to the tradition of men, according to the elementary things of the world and not according to Christ.—Col. 2:8.
According to the scripture quoted, people become prey when they find themselves subject to men's ideas rather than applying the morality encouraged through the bible. -

The slow trickle has become a steady stream!
by freddo inin the last few weeks it seems that instead of one or two new posters a week we seem to be getting several every day.
many seem to be long time jw's who are troubled by the path of the organisation.
this is really encouraging to those of us who have been here sometime.. welcome!

There was a rumor that a meeting was recently held at HQ and a number of higher ups were invited. The purpose of the meeting was specifically to set up a taskforce to deal with apostates.
One of these rumors come from Youtuber - the unwitness and he was passing on some information by someone he has been in contact with.

He believes that the GB has trolls or internet guys who are going to tackle the problem through one method or another, such as sewing seeds of mistrust through social networks.
If this is true then we need to be extra vigilant. It is possible that they could pose as Elders (for trust) who are 'disillusioned' but prepared to stay in the congregation and not discuss any of their issues with either friends in the congregation or their partners. We all know the reasons why many choose to do this anyway but the more trolls that come on and actively encourage it the harder it is for people to actively leave.
I think it is very telling for a new poster, who claims to be an Elder or MS and doesn't want to be specific about TTATT in their personal experience. Not that it is much of a problem, there are some smart people on here that will quickly out them.
I loved that game that Slimboyfat played with us here about truth or lie.
As one poster (ToesUp) has already mentioned, if someone needs to stay then not donating is a very positive move, great advice.

It must be very hard to watch clips like this for the middle aged sister or even a younger one who have no prospects of marrying a brother because there are none availabe. There was another clip in a very recent video telling single sisters to be happy with their lot.
There would be many sisters watching this latest video desperately wishing that they could, at the very least, have a choice.
Once again, the org manages to put the spotlight on an unattainable dream for many. They must feel so depressed.

He wouldn't have wanted to put the talk off until next week, the bread would be stale by then, another week and it would be mouldy. The bread will spoil all on its own. -

Exactly where is the expansion?
by NeverKnew inthere is a thread that i'm really enjoying discussing the consolidation of congregations into existing kingdom halls.
i'm realizing that the only threads that have spoken of building were related to branch offices.
we know the wts's consolidations and reopening a are a shell game of sorts but i'm wondering... is anyone seeing an increase in kingdom halls in their part of the world?

The 'work is speeding up' could mean any number of things but it probably means that since there is no money allocated to do anything the number of projects that need doing are increasingly stockpiling. -

For the purpose of the illustration it was not necessary to dress two men in pretty bow ties then say they are not really waiters but are from the writing department. Something is very fishy about this. It could be that the GB helper wanted to make it known that they have their own lackeys or that the writing department are really the ones in control (and just look at the stupid things they can do). -

Pandora's Box is now open!
by pandorasbox1914 inhi everyone, i have been lurking for some time now and decided to open the box (hence pandora).
about a year ago i became aware of child abuse within the org, out of curiosity (just like pandora) i opened the box and the evils have been pouring out ever since regarding the org.
anyway, this came to a head last summer with the arc.

Hi Pandora, I wonder what surprises you've stored in that box of yours? Oh dear, I hope this doesn't get an R rating.
