The Halls are within 2.1 miles of each other and in an area that has been growing in the number of residents living there. Areas close to Capital Cities in Australia are becoming high density. What were once reasonable sized blocks with one house are being split into blocks with two or three residences as land becomes more valuable.

2018 Courage Convention video invitation
by Listener inthe video invitation for the 2018 convention is just creepy.
i thought it was some parody at first as it seems 'dark'.it begins with a young man being pushed whilst standing at his locker and the voice over says that 'in critical times we need courage more than ever'.
next, comes a clip of a male putting his hand on the shoulder of a female worker, the look she gives him would be enough to give him nightmares for the next year.

There are so many more serious incidences that require real courage. For instance, many of the victims of child abuse within this organization.

How registering as a JW in Germany benefits the WT/Org
by OrphanCrow inin some european countries, "church tax" is levied against members of certain religions.
how each country handles this differs depending on each country's tax laws.. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/church_tax.
in germany, a member of a religion that has "public law" status pays an additional 8 or 9 percent on their tax assessments.

Thanks Thewonderofyou and Orphan Crow for the topic. I had no idea that the Government of some Countries tax individuals to give to religions.

Nephew’s JW Fiancée Begins Conversion to Judaism Due to Passover Date
by Rabbi Midge init’s been a while since i posted, but for those who remember, i came on here to get some information about jehovah’s witnesses because i have a nephew who was getting engaged to a girl who was a jehovah’s witness and, along with some other sites, i was recommended this one.. since then we’ve been busy with passover and jehovah’s witnesses have had something they call the memorial of christ’s death (i believe i have that right).
this clashing of the two observances apparently did more for this girl than anything else i ever saw in our months of conversations with her.. respectfully, jews do not proselytize.
these are people who, of their own desire, “join the tribe” after some years of study and practice--something this girl has just begun to do.

I'm sorry to see Rabbi Madge go but it seems that some of us have upset her.
She wrote this in her first post
I gather from my brother’s son’s girlfriend (we’ll call her “Shirley” here, but that’s not her real name--definitely not Jewish, of course, but nevertheless “Shirley” to protect her real Jehovah’s Witness identity) that the Witnesses are very much into this “the earliest manuscripts are the most dependable texts” argument because Shirley squeezes this comment into every conceivable conversation you can think about, from moments when we’re out buying lipstick together and trying to find the just the right color, to my trying to share the family secret to making the perfect Jewish brisket--the kind that melts in your mouth and my nephew just loves his auntie Midge over. (I don’t know how Shirley does it, either. But she squeezed that subject into both activities. She really did. It’s weird.)
I would love to have seen how Shirley was able to squeeze into every conversation, her views on early Bible manuscripts, even when discussing lipstick shades whilst standing in a store. This was also occurring whilst Rabbi Madge was divulging a secret Jewish family recipe.
Anyway, her writing is colourful but she should not have been surprised if some of us were not accepting her comments blindly.
Now that Shirley has much more time on her hands, Rabbi Madge might have a few more secret recipes to teach her and also plenty of other ideas and customs to aid in converting her.

Don't worry about it Wakanda. The important link is there, which is to JW victims. Thanks for posting.
Is the Organisation really going to stop recording information because they do not have permission to do so? It's a dilemma for them
They say that God's law is above human law. Their responsibility is to keep the Congregation clean and to Shepherd the Flock. They cannot do this properly and in some cases, not at all, if they don't keep records. They could then use theocratic warfare in not disclosing the fact so hat they are not punished for breaking the law.
The problem is, they can be easily exposed for doing this.

Judaism is not like this at all. Judaism is not based on what you believe but on who you are and what you do
What you just wrote is a belief right there.
Why do you think MOST posters are feeling bad from what you are writing?

Is the amount payable 8 or 9% of an individual's net income or of the amount of tax payable for that year?

You can't just become a Jew without having some level of belief, ideas or customs, otherwise I could call myself a Jew. All I was saying is that she may find she does not want to believe in some aspect and choose not to be Jewish.
For instance, you say that she stopped being a JW because she accepted the Jewish calculations. She may later decide that she no longer accepts this and believes the JWs have it right and return to being a JW. Or it may be too hard for her to deal with the shunning from her own family and return to the JWs. It doesn't matter if you tell me that she doesn't have to accept the Jewish calculation or not in order to be a Jew, in her own mind, it may be an important issue to her.
You later explain why she wants to become a Jew. The point is, she may decide these are not valid reasons. Her husband might decide to become a Mormon and she's happy to go along with that to keep family peace.
So tread lightly before you start speaking about what this woman is doing. She is joining is new culture because she is marrying a Jew and they plan to start a family. She wants to be a part of a culture to raise her children in it. She may end up being an atheist, but she wants to raise her children in such a culture that will allow her children to be free and safe to do the same. The Jehovah's Witness culture won't allow for that, but ours, the Jewish culture will. She understands that. She is studying who we are, but not like Listener has mistakenly come to the conclusion of adopting some central set of beliefs--of which there are none.
Again, it doesn't matter if she has to accept a central set of beliefs or not, whatever it is that you are feeding her, she simply may choose not to accept it.
You may think that being a Jew is simply the best and you appear to be tickled pink that this young lady is no longer a JW. You said initially that it was because she realised the date for the memorial was wrong. There are ex JWs that do return because the religion has a strong hold on individuals. It may happen at any time, just as easily as she stopped being a JW, she may return. It can result in a great deal of unhappiness within a marriage.

I don't know how much time you have spent with this young lady but have you considered that you may have bombarded her with you Jewish ideas?
