For an organisation that holds itself up as being extremely unified why did they wait until the end of 1974 and 1975 to clarify their significance of 1975?

Why did the WTBS endorse 1975?
by jay88 inis it not true that the leaders knew that it was a blatant lie when the 1975 teaching was propagated in the 60's?.

WTS: creative days took aeons - WT Feb 15th, 2011
by undercover inthere's already a couple of threads discussing this particular issue of kool-aid version of the wt, but i just had to start another after reading about the creative days mentioned in this issue.. we debate from time to time if the wts has ever officially retracted their doctrine that the earth and all things created are less than 50,000 years old.
there's been some quotes that show them waffling on the age of the planet itself but still sort of holding to the notion of all creation happening within a defineable 7 day period.
how long is a creative day?

Interestingly, there was an watchtower article in 1970 2/15 that expressed their current view way back then, it says
Similarly Delitzsch says in his NewCommentaryonGenesis: “Days of God are intended, with Him a thousand years are but as a day when that is past, Ps. 90:4 . . . The days of creation are, according to the meaning of Holy Scripture itself, not days of four and twenty hours, but aeons . . . For this earthly and human measurement of time cannot apply to the first three days.”
However, In that same article they concluded a creative day was 7,000 years.

I think you may be right Gary 1914. DJ cannot manage his own level of intelligence with any real sanity. He goes off on tangents that make sense only to him.

QFR feb 15th 2010 - lets be honest , we haven't got a clue...
by dozy inthe questions from readers feb 15th 2011 raises the (no doubt burning in many jws minds) question about why moses became angry with aarons 2 sons after the death of their brothers.. the wtbts undertakes to answer this question but really doesn't seem unsure of themselves (perhaps the channel of communication was suffering some interference that day.
) notice the numerous ways that the wtbts in a short (half page) article hedges its bets.
it reminded me of a schoolboy cooking up a story when he was caught with his hands in the cookie jar , vacillating & hedging as he tries to think up an acceptable answer.. it appears that , the surviving priests had evidently acted , aaron may have wondered , perhaps he felt , aaron mayespecially have reasoned , aaron may have thought , moses seems to have accepted , evidently, jehovah too was satisfied.. .

They have been slowly using these terms more often but to throw them all in one answer it looks like they are trying to get their readers more used to those phrases. The best excuse ever for later saying - "we never said that"

eggnog said "But if you did not do this, if, instead, you put your trust in the men you celebrated, in nobles, your faith in the thoughts and sayings of earthling man, whose thoughts have all perished at death. If we ourselves are guilty of ignoring Jesus' advice to "pay attention to how [we] listen," and are guilty of having put our truth in the sayings of men and not in what God's word says, then we must now reconsider our steps and check our misdirected anger, for happy are those who have put their trust in Jehovah and not in these celebrated men "to whom no salvation belongs," who have put their truth in the One who sent His son to help us, to release us from the bondage of the reasonings of such men, the God that released us when we were bound. (Psalm 146:3-7)"
I really am puzzled as to who you are eggnog, whether you are in a position of authority within the org or a wolve in sheeps clothing. I do think that you have either been asked or are self appointed to write on this forum in the hope that you can encourage those fading to return. No doubt you would advise that it is not important who you are.
I believe there would be other elders who feel the same way as your comments made above. They are the lucky ones as they have the confidence in their own faith and relationship with Jehovah to feel this way. The problem is that the r & f would feel guilty to call themselves a JW and take this stand. They are told and taught to trust the FDS, to believe what they say, to not form their own opinions, to do what they say and it is them that are speaking on behalf of God. Unfortunately it is this goal of unity that has caused the FDS to discourage your above attitude generally amongst JWs.
I sincerely hope that one day the org will teach to have the above attitude about them and their teachings and that way individuals will feel that they really are serving God wholeheartedely rather than an organization.

Babylon the Great
by Listener inthe org teaches that babylon the great is the world empire of false religion (although it once confined it the the catholic church) but i find it difficult that there will be a collapse of religion although people's attitude towards religion has changed greatly, particularly muslim.
babylon means confusion.. the recent global financial crisis has got me thinking that this is quite significant and a collapse of our financial stucture will certainly cause a great deal of hardship for both governments and individuals.
it would change every part of our every day life, particularly in the western world.

Babylon means confusion.
The recent global Financial crisis has got me thinking that this is quite significant and a collapse of our financial stucture will certainly cause a great deal of hardship for both governments and individuals. It would change every part of our every day life, particularly in the western world. Although our Governments are trying hard to get us out of the mess they are creating a basis for an even more detrimental outcome if it does finally collapse. Their creation of money and debt is only adding to the problem and it is not a matter of if we have another crisis but a matter of when and this next one will be far worse, even to the point of possibly eliminating our current currencies.
Some believe the harlot (BTG) is America and this also fits because all countries use the American dollar as a stronghold in their own economy in one way or another. Either by trading in US dollars, holding funds in US dollars or basing their own currencies on it. Once it was gold now it is the US dollar.
I think the BTG could possibly be the large Banks (including the International Monetary Fund). In most countries they are supposedly independant of the Government but they work hand in hand with it (or fornicate with it). We have seen in the GFC that the Government was quick to put the blame on the banks but due to it's relationship with it they had to support and aid their banks, in the second collapse the Governments will have little left this time around to support and keep the banks afloat as they have already overextended themselves with stimulus programs.
On reading Revelation 17 & 18 it all fits except for one particular aspect and that is from Rev 17:6 "And I saw the woman, drunk with the blood of the saints and with the martyrs of Jesus" and also in Rev 18:24 which states "And in her was found the blood of the prophets and saints, and of all who were slain on the earth"
What does fit with it being the banks or money is the following -
Revelation talks about the kings of the earth committing fornication with her and living luxuriously from her
The merchants/traders will mourne her death as no-one buys their goods anymore and they had previously became rich from her
Vs 14 states "and the fruit that your soul longed for has gone from you, and all the things that are rich and splendid have gone from you, and you shall find them no more at all' Their are so many people and Governments that are money hungry, it is their God, their new religion.
Interestingly Rev 18:22 states 'The sounds of the harpists, musicians, flutists, and trumpeters shall not be heard in you anymore. And no craftsmen shall be found in you anymore...23: For your merchants were the great men of the earth, for by your sorcery all the nations were decieved" So the banks have been very creative and cunning in making profits and money for many and it is like music to their ears and yet it is all really just fake and will amount to nothing when it collapses.
What are your opinions?

Jehovahs Witnesses taught that Armageddon would occur in 1914,1915,1918,1921,1925,1932,1941 and 1975. Who is the father
by Little Imp ini saw a very long thread on answerbag answering the above question in which there are several jws responding and denyng vehemently what is said in the question.
in some places being quite rude to people.
the dialogue highlighted yellow is me, the text highlighted blue is someone who is agreeing that the jws did preach this.

There was another Watchtower article in 1968/1969 that stated it would be in the next few years.

The fact is that if a present truth has replaced a past truth then the past truth was false. Being false and having been uttered through the written word then it is a lie. It is better that it is not said at all rather than speculating because telling lies is not good.
To defend oneself by saying that they were merely trying to interpret a prophecy but end up interpreting it incorrectly and conveying it to others means that rather than being a simple interpretation they have foretold something that would happen in the future which turns out to be false.
