i reported the other night that we sat down to watch the new video, and while my wife was smiling and laughing while watching the first part, she stiffened and became quiet during part two.
it disturbed her deeply:.
"this is ridiculous.
NewChapter said "THEY made up Sparlock. That was okay though." This just dawned on yesterday.
It wasn't Satan, the world or some misguided individual but it was the organisation that created it and then proceed to teach a lesson that was based on a figment of their imagination.
What they did was create or make up a character called Sparlock and then proceeded to treat him as if he had magical qualities and threw him out. How much stranger can it get?
it happens without warning.
you have a stroke.
you get ms. you are in a car accident.. they put you in the hospital.
I don't recall coming across an article that says its okay for a JW to accept help from their disfellowshipped relatives.
often during wt/book studies and/or public talks i would be following along and note little discrepancies and inconsistencies.
perhaps it was a scripture that didn't really support the point being asserted in the paragraph or maybe it was an illustration that sounded good but wasn't completely parallel or maybe it was a line of reasoning that wasn't as conclusive or solid as the speaker/elder/co/wt publication made it out to be.
or maybe it was the excessive use of weasel words like, "evidently," "perhaps," "must have" and so on.
Thanks for the link Turtleturtle. I was aware of the membership form they were sent each year but this made it clear that they signed this yearly membership form and were aware that as an NGO they were ASSOCIATING themselves with the UN Department of Public Information. The Org has also had plenty of opportunities to present the original form they completed and to apologize for their actions but have not done so.
Thanks for your story Oodad it certainly is a struggle to leave and affects our lives for years to come. It is not just their shunning policy that I find so distasteful but the fact that they indoctrinate the idea that leaving the org = leaving God.

i was holidaying in hong kong and for some reason i couldn't post.. what i find hypocritical is the depiction of the plane in the video.
it appears as some sort of theme item throughout the video, flying through the air in the background as some sort of hidden message.
It acts magically as it turns from a real areoplane as it drops to the ground, into a toy areoplane.
after all, this unidentified freind of caleb gives him a toy, which calebs mom finds objectionable , shouldn`t she just have said to caleb ,give it back to your freind ?
and not dump it in the trash can ?
what sort of a message does that send to caleb (or any other children who watch this video ) calebs mom should have acknowledged that his freind gave him a present, and it should be appreciated , not to disrespectfully throw it away in the trash can with no thought to the giver of the present.. smiddy.
Her actions make the witnessing work look a sham and an excercise in reporting hours only. It also puts their morals into question.
If a parent found that their child had a dangerous toy given to them by a friend they would want to warn the other child's parents. If it was a matter of not wanting your child to have a particular toy you would have him return it to his friend or if the child was very young you would do it yourself. It could have been a good opportunity for his mother to explain that they were JWs and what their beliefs were. It is the responsibility of the parents to safeguard their children from what they consider any dangers but she has thrust all responsibility onto Caleb.
To make Caleb put it in the bin was very cruel. His friend will wonder what happened to the toy and he will have to say he threw it out rather than his mother took it off him.
well its been a few years since my two oldest and key employees/inlaws testified against me for actually doing interesting and thorough research about things i had legitimate questions about....and was foolish or wise enough to share it with my friends and family lmao!
and its been over a year since i was read out as a da apostate...(and kinda vocal about it so i am pretty much the anti-christ poster child around here).... maybe it is another thread but i cant believe these guys have not quit and they said they might due to bad conscience and pressure from elders/others...we are talking 10 to 20+ year employees and one husband wife team in that group...but also an elders wife part time of only a few years (all of whom i still love btw)...a superfine pioneer and her ms husband who is mr big in rbc stuff...and most have zero retirement except for what i have funded the past 12 years...i have had a pretty good business for a long time with never any real goal of making a lot of money because that was for sure a forbidden goal...and i did not want to look materialistic lmao!!!!!!.
but now with concerns about forever funding my own health care insurance as i always have, and losing half my assets in divorce and paying alimony for the next decade...it dawned on me that i can and should focus on growing the heck out of my biz as i think me and all my employees are gonna need a lot more money than they now have... if we want to stay in the usa anyway.... so i had a meeting and told everone there was a reason for our recent growth...and why for the first time in my life i am actually excited about it getting huge instead of being afraid of that...and how for personal reasons i never really thought about the need for a big retirement fund or saving for heath care at all until my late thirties probably...but that i have decided i am going to make a bunch more money now and am focusing on that for the first time ever...and that they need to make a bunch more money too believe it or not...now they have been very excited and into their jobs and how well they are doing them...so i shared my plans with them and said they can all stay on board and enjoy the fruits of our own hard labors...or they can get the hell off the bus...nobody has turned in their notice.

thewatchtower bible and tract society has unwittingly unleashed quite a viral sensation within the ranks of its former members.
to summarise what has happened so far:- become jehovahs friend dvd is released.
it is an animated feature aimed at children with modern computerised graphics.- the antagonist of the relatively brief cartoon is a self-described warrior wizard by the name of sparlock which was obtained by caleb, the young subject of this material.- the unnamed mother in this dvd guilt-trips young caleb into disposing of his sparlock toy.- the video goes viral within the ex-jw community, with youtube videos being posted of the video.
Great posts now I understand why the WTBTS filmed their Logo (the Tower) directly behind Sparlock in a segment during the song. Sparlock is not magical yet the mother believed it was otherwise she wouldn't have had it thrown out rather than returning it to the present giver. The organization puts fear into the minds of JWs where there is no basis for fear in the first place.
i have been to a few funerals and recalled that at many the cloest family members did not cry.. .
ok cultures and a number of factors may explain that, but could crying mean you don't believe in the resurrection?.
is it social compliance?.
Another reason may be because the talks are very unemotional, hardly discussing the wonderful atributes of the deceased person and how they will be sorely missed.

There is absolutely no indication in the dvd that it was Caleb's imagination, you are just imagining that it is.
If it was Caleb's imagination that was making it fly then it could also be claimed that he thinks his plane is magical. The WTBTS has gone to great lengths to demonstrate how Caleb does believe it is magical. Whereas they do no such thing as far as Sparlock is concerned. There is no indication of any magical abilities that Sparlock possesses.
The mother obviously believes Sparlock is in fact magical and this is demonstrated by the fact that she wanted it thrown out. If she thought it had no magical qualities then there would be no reason to throw it out. She even makes the point of saying 'Who likes magic, Jehovah or Satan?'. Therefore she has just taught her child a very bad lesson and that is that toys can be magical when in actuality there was no evidence of it.
How is a JW able to determine whether an item is magical or not? It would seem in this instance that it is through a 'mob mentality' perception. That is, just because everyone says it does have magical qualities it is believed, even to the point that the JW believes it is.
It is not surprising that this comes from the WTBTS as they have been teaching mixed messages for decades.
I just had my daughter watch this video as she has just undertaken a certificate in child care. Her reaction was not surprising. She said that the video presents too many negatives and this is a very bad way of trying to teach children. Presenting lessons in a positive manner is what will encourage children to behave properly. The use of the words 'hate' and 'obey', in her opinion, were bad choices and instead like and teach are more age appropriate.
