First mention of "new light" may appear in July 15, 2013 Watchtower
by cedars ina trusted source informs me that the "new light" about the faithful slave is to make its first printed appearance in the july 15th watchtower, which should be available for download online three weeks from now, on around april 15th.. i'm led to believe that the references to the new understanding are made in such a manner as to suggest the "new light" isn't that new at all, which suggests to me that little or no effort is being made to explain the doctrinal connotations.
my source and i are hoping to get a key paragraph posted at the earliest opportunity.

I'll be interested to know if they explain the significance of the Domestics now including the OS and whether they have mentioned Spiritual Israel.
Also, they have changed the timing of Jesus' second coming to appoint the FDS over all Christ's belongings and this is significant. They really screw themselves with the idea that the promise of the FDS being appointed over all his belongings is not inclusive of just them. This is pretty much on par with their logic regarding the meaning of generation.
They didn't discuss the wicked slave at the general meeting and this adds a greater meaning to the whole parable and how it should be considered.
Cedars, could you thank the guy who has given you the article ahead of time and thank you for your hard work.

I've just been looking at some of MacHislopp's posts because he did quite a bit of research through WTBTS publications which are interesting to read.
I'm marking this one because of the FDS changes. It is no wonder the GB have not published any more in depth information about their new idea, there are so many issues that need to be clarified and this thread just adds more.

Typical talk from a JW
To quote from the article
"A spokesman for the church in Australia, Sydney solicitor Vincent Toole, dismissed the allegations and said shunning was a"myth."
Myth's can also be true but there are hundreds of cases documented demonstrating it is more than a myth. -

The importance of 1975 or was that 1976?
by Listener ini came across an article in the feb 1, 1955 watchtower (questions from readers) which discusses 1976 as being 6,000 years since the creation of adam.
the question being addressed was -.
what are the reasons for changing the date of adams creation first from 4028 b.c.

Thanks Blondie. They originally taught that the 6,000 years ended in around 1872. Here is there reasoning for the 100 year difference
August 15 1974 Watchtower pg 505-509
[Footnotes]
Man’s creation was placed in 4128 and sin’s entrance in 4126 B.C.E. Such chronology followed an incorrect manuscript rendering of Acts 13:20 in The Emphatic Diaglott, which said that God gave Israel judges “about four hundred fifty years, till Samuel the prophet.” A footnote stated that this was at variance with 1 Kings 6:1, where the Hebrew letter daleth (thought to represent the number 4) supposedly had been mistaken for the similar character he (5). Hence, it was suggested that 580 (not 480) years elapsed between Israel’s exodus from Egypt and the time that Solomon began building Jehovah’s temple. But the oldest manuscripts spell out all numbers. So a transcriber’s visual error could not have occurred at 1 Kings 6:1, which gives this period correctly as 480 years. This harmonizes with a correct reading of Acts 13:20, which indicates that the period of “about four hundred and fifty years” there mentioned preceded the era of the Judges.
In 1943 the Watch Tower Society’s book “The Truth Shall Make You Free” did away with the nonexistent extra 100 years in the period of the Judges and placed the end of 6,000 years of man’s existence in the 1970’s. It also fixed the beginning of Christ’s presence, not in 1874, but in 1914 C.E.

I came across an article in the Feb 1, 1955 Watchtower (Questions from Readers) which discusses 1976 as being 6,000 years since the creation of Adam.
The question being addressed was -
What are the reasons for changing the date of Adam’s creation first from 4028 B.C. to 4026 B.C. and now recently in the book“New Heavens and a New Earth”to 4025 B.C.?
It is an interesting artcle and it is very clearly explained as to how they felt about the significance of 1976/1975. This helps to prove that their later hype about 1975 was deliberate.
Here are parts of the article =
"... Undue concern seems to be manifested as to the date of Adam’s creation and some ask, What are the reasons for changing the creation date of Adam first from 4028 B.C. to 4026 B.C,,,,,
According to Genesis 1:24-31 Adam was created during the last part of the sixth creative-day period of 7,000 years. Almost all independent chronologists assume incorrectly that, as soon as Adam was created, then began Jehovah’s seventh seven-thousand-year period of the creative week. Such then figure that from Adam’s creation, now thought to be the fall of 4025 B.C., why, six thousand years of God’s rest day would be ending in the fall of 1976. However, from our present chronology (which is admitted imperfect) at best the fall of the year 1976 would be the end of 6,000 years of human history for mankind, 6,000 years of man’s existence on the earth, not 6,000 years of Jehovah’s seventh seven-thousand-year period. Why not? Because Adam lived some time after his creation in the latter part of Jehovah’s sixth creative period, before the seventh period, Jehovah’s sabbath, began.
Why, it must have taken Adam quite some time to name all the animals, as he was commissioned to do. Further, it appears from the New World Bible Translation that, even while Adam was naming the animals, other family kinds of living creatures were being created for Adam to designate by name. (Gen. 2:19 footnote d, NW) It was not until after Adam completed this assignment of work that his helpmate Eve was created. Since God created nothing new whatever on the seventh day, Eve must have been created on the sixth day; and this the divine record confirms in its account of the sixth day: “God proceeded to create the man in his image, in God’s image he created him; male and female he created them.”—Gen. 1:27, NW.
The very fact that, as part of Jehovah’s secret, no one today is able to find out how much time Adam and later Eve lived during the closing days of the sixth creative period, so no one can now determine when six thousand years of Jehovah’s present rest day come to an end. Obviously, whatever amount of Adam’s 930 years was lived before the beginning of that seventh-day rest of Jehovah, that unknown amount would have to be added to the 1976 date."

"Anniversary of Jesus' Death" Invitation wording
by seenitall innoticed the wording change this year.
no more memorial or lord's evening meal mentioned.. only an invitation to "the anniversary of jesus' death".
so, my question - who has caught this phrase and what does it mean?.
-
Listener
Possibly they are trying to be more accurate in their own teachings. 99% of JWs cannot celebrate the Lords Evening Supper so rather they will be recognizing the Anniversary of his death.
There is no biblical directive in observing this.

I like Bob's suggestion.
Go into detail about the experiences that you learnt from him, recall specific incidences and explain how this made you feel. After 44 years he may have regretted some of his behaviour or thought that he could have handled things differently. Hopefully he will respond with his feelings about the past and from that you will easily see where he is at now and time can be very telling. This way you will have more insight into this man as he is today.
Go on to tell him where you stand today. He may not like it but he sounds like the sort of man that would respect you more for being upfront about it. Explain to him how you love to consider and research so many things and that you have a passion to share it with others and why.
Bring up just one area in which you have had great misgivings about in a particular teaching of the JWs. Don't choose a topic that you can clearly defend 100% or are totally confident with but choose one that mystifies you. I say that because he sounds like the type of guy that will reply but it may only be the once due to JW convictions holding him back and this way you will at least get some thoughts about an issue that has been puzzlying you and the opportunity may not come to you again.
