Bro Loesch's talk.
by New day inrecently i heard through video link to our kh a talk by bro loesch where he attacked university study (again) but this time he prefaced his remarks by saying, and i quote, "the faithful slave does not forbid you to go to university.
" so this was a bad start as his following remarks made it clear that this was just a way of seeming reasonable while basically saying that we shouldn't do it.
he went on to use an illustration i think he has used before about a man with ocd who decided to kill himself.

Imagine if the pope came out with a speech telling kids to give them their ice cream money so they can build more churches. It would be hilarious. -

This should come as no surprise if what I have read on here in the past is correct
This is exactly the same as the scheme they play at the assemblies. Early on they declare a deficit and ask for contributions to cover the costs so that there will not be a shortfall. The figures for expenditure are never forthcoming.
With this scheme, the GB are simply escalating this to a much grander scale. They project that this fiscal year there will be a deficit. No figures are forthcoming. They need more money to prevent a shortfall.
It's worked for years and years, elders go along with it without question and all the sheepies contribute more.
With all they're different financial structures it is likely one of them will have a shortfall/deficit, especially if they simply transfer amounts to another structure. As normal, they are so short of details and the sheepie's don't ask.

You've got a good point there Brokeback but this site is a lot more than just current members and no doubt the WTBTS would love to take over and wipe all the history.
There are some great sites such as JW Facts but this site has something that other sites don't have. When you try to research any specific JW topic or doctrine this site usually always come up and you can find indepth discussions and logical thoughts with a bit of persistence and research. It is a wonderful tool for this and probably the best out there because there have been so many intelligent and clear thinking people who have contributed. Nothing out there today can replace the history that is on this website and for that alone I think it is priceless.
Thanks Simon for providing and maintaining the forum and to all past, current and future posters, with a few exceptions, of course, but Simon usually manages to weed them out.

Commenting feature on jw.org
by neat blue dog init seems that select videos on jw.org now offer a comment section for any registered user, (previously, logins were only used by elders, servants and those who wanted to donate by credit card).
however, your login info now has to contain your real full name and be approved by your congregations service committee..

If this is the case then it just makes them look more cultish to visitors who would also like to comment but can't because of all the restrictions. -

Calling all lovers of Jehovahs and His Christ

Lovely comments Vinman, I agree.
We were lucky to have a father that helped us to come to appreciate God and Jesus far more than that taught by the Watchtower. We learnt so much more from him during the family study nights and by other demonstrations. He was very sincere but caught up in the WTBTS and that's how I got to see that this religion is really just a men's club

i'm a ex-bethelite ( brooklyn )and currently serving as an elder (10 years) (thinking about stepping down) on the service committee.

I am surprised by your observation Mr Theoctratic. There are so many JWs who are more than ready to out someone and who will not have anything negative said about the organization. -

Thanks Berry Gerry. The article was a study article. I'll try to give a summary on each point based on the article. The first thing that is noteworthy is that it isn't directed towards disfellowshipped person, it is directed at inactive ones.
A Letter from the Governing Body
1. The Lost One I will search forGod seeks out inactive ones and so should the elders. All JWs should be encouraging inactive ones to return to the congregation where they can engage in activities that only JWs do. This includes studying the scriptures, attending meetings and preaching the good news of the kingdom.
Oh and if you are studying with an inactive one who is interested in returning and you find out that he has committed a serious sin then you need to tell the inactive one to see the elders, failing this you have to tell the elders.
2. Anxiety - Hard Pressed in every wayAnxiety - financial problems/increased family responsibilities. Is your life better now having left? Try to get them to admit that their spirituality and happiness has diminished. Convince them that not being able to preach makes them less joyful. 3. Hurt Feelings - When we have a cause for complaint.
3. Hurt Feelings - when you have cause for complaint
(The logic on this is amazing)
Men are imperfect, Jehovah didn't do this so why leave him and his people?
The FDS dishes out excellent spiritual food and that's how they learnt the truth in the first place.
If the person had received discipline then strongly tell him that he must at least be partly at fault and accept the blame for it (and we haven't even got onto the guilt issue).
4. Guilt - Cleanse me from my sinGuilt because of wrongdoing. First there is the promise that if you have stopped preaching and attending meetings because you committed a serious sin but have stopped and are genuinely repented then you will be welcomed back. The elders can help him in receiving God's forgiveness. They forget to mention that it is the elders who decide whether they are repentant or not.
A second mention, for emphasis, is made here regarding dobbing in those that have committed a serious sin.
5. Return to the shepherd and overseer of your soulsTell inactive ones that only JWs enjoy true refreshment. Tell them that God expects us to do what we can and that they need to act now and oppose the devil and draw close to God. Future blessing await if they return without delay.
In the article it mentions a number of times that inactive ones may be have bible studies before they actually return. It is also acceptable for any JW to try to reach out to them (they are not shunned). It will be interesting to see if this changes in the brochure.
It sounds like more rehash and dishing out of stale food.
