The reason it differs from one country to another is because it is not an organized cult WORLDWIDE. They don't force you to do many things, and they don't force you not to do many things. When LaurenM mentioned "it makes sense", I would say it makes more sense compared to JW. Buddhism will not force you to practise their teachings and will never DF you if you don't. They focus more on self strength & inner peace. In many countries, they pray to idols. However they didn't really need to impress the idols like how the JW needs to impress their Jehovah.

like, the philosophies and ideas are what i've always believed but could never put a name to.
for example, they don't believe in god, they teach acceptance of all faiths, that peace can be achieved - not by changing other people - but by changing yourself, that everyone has goodness in themselves, that happiness can be gained internally (not externally as a gift from god), and that life is temporary so we should enjoy it!

My passport says I'm a Buddhist. i used to dislike this religion when I was in my teens. After studying about other religions and eventually I became an atheist, I gotta say that I'm very thankful that it all began with Buddhism. It would be much more disastrous if things would've begin with the JW.
Yes many people use Buddhism to make it a cult but the most they can take from you is some of your money. Compared to JW, they make way less damage to your brain.

If god exists (existed) he must be damn exited doing his stuff at the beginning. Then he started to get pissed off by men and he wanted to kill'em all. Just when he get so mad seeing the people getting sicker than ever, he suddenly thought of why the hell he still wanna waste his effort here? He might as well go create another new universe. He left and never came back ever since.

by Coded Logic inso this afternoon my roommate and i decided to go grab some dinner from the local chipotle and, as we live only a short distance from the franchise, we decided it was a good idea to walk.
little did i know that the j-dubs district convention here in sacramento was just getting out (the auditorium is literally smack in the middle of downtown and its attendees have to park in garages scattered a couple blocks away in every direction) so men in cheap suits and women in unflattering dress' were walking all over the place as though someone had antagonized their ungodly ant hill.
and, for sacramento, this of course is the complete opposite of the normative - that is to say, our streets are usually filled with well dressed, immaculately groomed, 'i know exactly where i'm going' government officials that monopolize the state capitol m-f. .

Ofcoz they are the happiest. Who wouldn't wanna live in a fairy tale world? As for their attire, I would say that they wear like lousy salesmen. I myself is a lousy salesman but i don't like to wear like one. I prefer t-shirts & jeans. -

Nick, I guess many who posted know Satan doesn't exist. We just wanna join the fun commenting on the entertaining stories told by the WT. I personally like Satan. He's cool, badass from the beginning and inspired so many things. Compared to god, satan is certainly more knowledgeable, more hardworking, more efficient & a man of his word. -

i feel more confused than ever
by BlackWolf inwell i know i've been posting a lot of topics like this lately and i'm sorry if i sound whiny or annoying.
my parents were asking me why i was so upset lately and i ended up just telling them the whole truth.
i told them i don't believe in god or the bible because i don't have any evidence of anything.

BlackWolf, make two things very clear and hopefully you'll live happier.
1. It seems like you're awaken and it's difficult to put you back to sleep. That is something you should be happy about.
2. You must know who you are dealing with. They are not just ordinary jws, they are also your loved ones. You need to go easy on them. This is mature stuff and it is not easy at your age. Anyway you gotta be a man. I know you wanna be an honest boy and express all your feelings to them. But again, check again who you're dealing with. There is no point telling them everything (at this point of time). Tell them something that they could probably accept such as you still love Jesus & you feel closer to god (even though you're not, yes that's white lie). If you wanna express yourself, this forum is the place for you to do that. Slowly and gradually help them into awakening slow and steady. Sooner you'll find that all these actions are an act of love instead of just feeling sick.

i made my sister cry :(
by BlackWolf inso lately i've felt so frustrated and overwhelmed that i had to tell someone how i felt.
my parents were gone so i decided to talk to my sister.
we've always been close so i thought i could trust her because we have talked about it before.

BlackWolf, patience is important and this has to be handled very carefully.
My sister, my bro-in-law & my 13 years old niece are jws. I didn't really care about my sister's belief as she's already in her middle age so she should be able to think for herself. The one i worried most is my niece. I am one of the person she look up to and we can talk about almost anything. I sometimes make fun of their religion and she can still let that go because I'm her favorite uncle. Anyway those were just small jokes. But there was once I talked a lil bit more about TTATT to her and she suddenly asked me to stop talking, and told me not to talk to her in that way in the future. I Immediately realized that this method will never work. It will only make things worse. It is important to maintain a good relationship and it is important that she will still listen to me in the future.
I also realized that even if it works and if she managed to realized TTATT, it will be very difficult for her to face it alone especially at her age. She still has to depend on her parents and the three of'em are staying so far from us(me & my family all non-jw). So I gotta switch plan.
BlackWolf, no matter what you say, don't risk breaking the good relationship between you and your sis. Make sure you guys can still talk. Lets work together. The least we can do now is try to delay her baptize. Some friends here mentioned about Jesus isn't baptized until he's 30. So imitate Jesus!
