Preparing for Friday's Feeding Frenzy
by Esse quam videri inmany hundreds and perhaps thousands of people, worldwide, are eagerly waiting for the questioning of geoffrey jackson at the australian royal commission on institutional response to child abuse.
this is the day that many have hungered for.
finally, a member of the governing body being questioned and compelled to make full disclosure, to the best of his knowledge, the very best of his knowledge.

Well said ExamsHater.
Science is telling us that the world is not about human being. To the universe, we are simply neglectable. Even the earth itself is not about human being. Our existence (human race) is simply meaningless to the nature.
Psychologically, this is too harsh for many people to accept. That's why there are organizations out there selling 'hope'.
To me it is not harsh at all. It's beautiful, nature is beautiful. It is all balanced. We're made out of star dust and when we die, we return to the nature. Our atoms actually never die. They are either transform to ashes or to fossils or might make its way to another life.
I like one of you mentioned about death is not harsh, life is precious. So live life to the fullest. If god show up taking you to a better place, that a bonus.

"And what happened next was simply unbelievable!"
by Terry ini always sit in the same spot, just outside starbucks in a vestibule area with a table in the air-conditioned space.
i say "always," but not today.. somebody with two laptops and a table filled with business ledgers was in "my" favorite spot!.
so, i took a tiny wooden table inside the coffee shop on a long padded bench next to 3 other identical tables.. as the clickbait banner ads like to say: "and what happened next was simply unbelievable!".

you're a bad@ss! those traps you set, BAM! I wonder how they will label you. Son of Satan perhaps lol.
I understand the odd feeling you experienced after the incident. It happens to me as well. I like to get around them acting as if I'm a noob before I attack. However I didn't play it as good as you did. I initially thought it was a guilty feeling and I care for them as an individual. But remember, they are deeply marinated jdubs. Sometimes we simply have the need to knock'em hard.
Just got a text message from an elder wanted to meet me. I bet that's gonna count as 'services', 'bible studies', 'revisit' or whatever sh*t.

Labeling one self "Atheist" is Unscientific
by LAWHFol ini have not meet all atheists, and it would be foolish for me to assume that all atheists, share the same prototypical view points.
i am inclined to feel that this classifies the views of a large percentage of atheists.
"atheism is, in a broad sense, the rejection of belief in the existence of deities.

My noob understanding is science deals with scientific modeling
models might not be certain. It can be challenged if there is a better scientific model. That is why science is always open and can never be absolutely certain.
The best fit model is called reality. The current best fit model in science is the Big Bang theory.
I personally thinks that science did not totally rejects the idea of god (not personal god). it's just that they put aside the idea and the room for god is getting smaller. IMHO science is agnostic atheist.
Btw, i don't know which category i fall into but i CURRENTLY do not believe in any god.

JWs trying hard to hide in obscurity right now
by Zoos inon other discussion boards where active jws participate i notice them deflecting questions about the royal commission in australia by bringing up child abuse statistics of other churches, ostensibly to demonstrate that there is nothing news worthy to see here... "move along!".
they are trying to make this story disappear into obscurity, irrelevance, as if it's just part and parcel of big institutional life, particularly of the religious nature.
oh, now they compare themselves to every other religion on the block?.

Would the discovery of EXTRATERRESTRIAL LIFE completely debunk the bible and religion?
by Black Man ini think it would.
instantly.
in fact, i hope one day soon that we somehow encounter extraterrestrial life because i think there would be a wholesale rejection of the bible and any/all religious institutions.

I guess it would not lose it's position for ET discovery.
The bible is too powerful. Not spiritually powerful but powerful in the sense that many new stories or new interpretations could be made up out of it. And it might end up as a biblical prophecy... just my crazy thoughts...

Grandchildren pay for the sins of their parents.
by Bonsai inmy wife's mother just related to us an interview she heard during the recent three day convention that she just had to share with us.
a brother and his wife have, for over 20 years, shunned their daughter because she ran off and eloped with a worldly guy.
while openly sobbing, he related how difficult it has been to shun his daughter and avoid unnecessary contact with her and her family.

perhaps worse than reptiles. When I mentioned about reptiles, I have no offense against the animals as those were their natural characteristics. A quick check on the internet to find out that even some cold-blooded reptiles like the alligators are actually one of the most caring mother to their children in the animal kingdom. (shame on the witnesses).
I just chatted with two jw elders moments ago and this was our second meeting. I'm the one who first approaching them to find out more about what's under their sleeves. I treated the meetings as casual coffee chit chatting time. But I believe they must have taken things too seriously. They must have considered me as their sheep/goat/student and the sessions as perhaps 'bible studies'. WTF lol. And they wanna make the meeting like a scheduled routine that is to meet me every Tuesday. These folks are funny, didn't they have better things to do?

The Watchtower is stuck in the 1950's for science
by HowTheBibleWasCreated insure they have embraced the internet and electronic media etc.
by their science is so far off it's sad ...but understandable.. the wt published several articles in the past dealing with reletivity etc.
yes great....100 years old science today.. where are the quantum mechanic articles?

science can only move faster than ever. the WTS could never catch up. they still spreading their version of science is because many people are still stuck in that era of science as well. probably because that era of science is easy to understand and probably there are still room for god.
however people today are getting more skeptical and more exposed to modern science. but don't forget the WTS always has a wildcard (aka joker) in their pocket, "Satan". When they are unable to alter, or twisting the quantum mechanics to support their cult, they would probably say that the world is controlled by Satan. It is always Satan's fault isn't it?

The Bible & J.R.R. Tolkien

in fact, it is only about my very small doubt.. i'm not a christian, i only have very little knowledge about the bible.
it was told that about 40 scholars wrote the book but i don't know who combined them (or they never been combined).

First of all, excuse me if the title seems big. In fact, it is only about my very small doubt.
I'm not a Christian, I only have very little knowledge about the Bible. It was told that about 40 scholars wrote the book but I don't know who combined them (or they never been combined). The books tells about almost everything in the world and the good and evil. Even though they are written by 40 scholars at different period of time, they don't contradicts one and another. I also heard from Bill Maher's videos that many other myths form different places has accounts that there is a person who have similar characteristics to Jesus Christ centuries way back before the New Testaments.
I suddenly thought of J.R.R. Tolkien. He wrote The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings. The books talk about almost everything as well and the good and evil. If I'm not mistaken, he even wrote a book about how his world was created. Tolkien borrowed many myths, his religion influences, the bible and his personal experience to make the books happen. He even invented a few languages, the most famous is the Elvish language.
My question is, is there any possibilities that how the Bible was created was somehow similar (or has any similarities) to how Tolkien's products was created?
The human brain tends to match whatever they see or hear to themselves. This is how a psychic plays his tricks on people. He simply say a few general words, and the believer will match those words to their past experience and conclude it's accurate. Can we use the same method, for example an incident happened, we find some words or sentences in The Hobbit & The LOTR, and say it's a prophecy?
Forgive me for the noob questions.... cheers...
