Random thoughts about Garden of Eden and Big Bang theory
by ballistic ini was reading about the garden of eden as follows.... knowledge and eternal life separate the gods from humanity.
the garden of eden story indicates that divinity consists of two primary elements: knowledge and immortality.
through an act of disobedience, human beings acquired the former, but they could not be allowed to attain the latter, lest they become like god.

(For Christians) Why should Muslims question the Koran?
by SweetBabyCheezits ini'm wondering about this hypothetical scenario:.
suppose..... a young muslim (non-radical/moderate) in a middle-eastern country has no access to the bible or any form of christianityhe's keenly aware of other non-christian faiths and the loyal adherents of those faithsaside from a blind faith in the koran (and, in turn, allah) he is an intelligent and logical thinkerhe doesn't see any flaws in his reasoning, no matter how illogical it may seem to outsidersokay, now based on the above suppositions..... what kind of introspective thinking might lead him to identify his own flawed reasoning so that he eventually realizes the koran is not a revelation of god?
is such a thing possible?

Well, that's where we disagree. Let's just agree to disagree. I just can't wrap my mind around that idea.

In either case, should he be held accountable by the Judeo-Christian god for his perspective (and actions or lack of action) since he has been immersed in Islamic culture/environment his entire life?
The answer is YES. He is already condemned.
Romans 9:10
I also find it fascinating that Christians believe some are condemned by God before they are born.
What makes you think it's just "some" who are condemned?
What's amazing, is that God chooses to save some before He created the world.
Yes, we're all condemned from birth, right? Born in sin. I take issue with the idea that the Christian God would condemn a person who was raised in a different faith, truly believed it was right, never was able to see Christianity as true or had no contact with Christianity and thus no opportunity to convert. And the idea that Christians were chosen to be saved by God. Well according to your beliefs yes. But it's still just a matter of where you were born and what you came into contact with during your life, something an individual has little control over. If God has that control, he'd make Christianity so obviously right to everyone there would be no denying it, that would only be just. But maybe I'm overlooking something here.

With respect, these Muslims are talking about smuggling four pounds of Anthrax into the US and spreading it like confetti over the White House lawn to kill 330, 000 American in a single hour in the name of Allah, the god of the Qur'an. What similar terror plots do you hold born again Christians to?
I don't know if they're born again but: Timothy McVeigh, Eric Rudolph, Scott Roeder, the Army of God, the Hutaree, and previously the KKK (they're not much of a threat anymore), etc. Around the world, Russia, Northern Ireland, Uganda, Romania all have problems with Christian terrorists.
We definitely have a problem with the Middle East. I don't dispute that. But assuming that Islam is a religion of terrorism, when many of our fellow Americans practice that religion, love it dearly and love this country too, is just wrong. Muslims in the middle east make up less than 20% of muslims around the world, it's just not fair to judge the whole religion based on those. Just as it wouldn't be fair to judge all christians based on the Christians in Africa who are beating and killing children accused of being witches. There are extremists in all religions. Any holy text can be twisted to justify horrendous acts. Terrorism has no religion and is indiscriminate in its attacks.

I also find it fascinating that Christians believe some are condemned by God before they are born. That's insane to me. Because they didn't have the fortune to be born in a Christian nation?? Where's the mercy and love in that?

Do you feel sorry for the family members who shun you?
by SweetBabyCheezits inas each instance of shunning happens to me, it seems even more ridiculous than the last.. this weekend i took our kids to the park - wife opted out, understandably - and we let our daughter call my parents to inform them we'd be there.
this was my first time in the presence of my parents since our df announcement two weeks ago.. my mom and dad were 10-20 feet away much of the time and yet they never said a greeting or.. well anything.
at one point my daughter, who is aware of the shunning, mistakenly thought my mom called my name and shouted excitedly, "mawmaw, were you talking to daddy??

You will never know the pain of shunning you children, because you are able to love them freely
This is the big reason I won't go back. My daughter will never doubt my love for her. She will never know that pain.
I do feel sorry for my family. I understand why they do it. They think they're doing the right thing. What hurts is that I can't open their eyes to the real truth, that it isn't the right thing to do. But it's their choice, I don't shun them. They're missing out on so much. Funny thing is, out of my parents, my fiance's mom dad and stepdad, my fiance's dad who lives the farthest away is the one that sees my daughter the most. He makes the effort to see her, he's at every special occasion, holidays, birthdays, trips to the zoo. And he's an atheist.

JW's have a very pessimistic view of now. They fear the whole world, everything in it is controlled by Satan. So how do you cope living in a world like that? You look forward to the future, when the world's done away with and everything's perfect. But the world's not like that. People are generally good and want the same things any of us do. And think of the amazing things we've accomplished in the last century. I just can't look at the world and think it's evil and hope for it's imminent destruction anymore. And I have trouble believing a loving God would do that either.

If Armageddon comes tomorrow and I die, that's okay. If it never comes, I'll die of old age. Either way, I'll just be dead. And if I were to die in it, my fiance and daughter probably would too. I don't want to spend eternity without them. Death is no longer scary to me. I want to live my life, I'm lucky to have it. I think Mark Twain said it best,
I do not fear death, in view of the fact that I had been dead for billions and billions of years before I was born, and had not suffered the slightest inconvenience from it.

Man in Tampa area threatens JW's with gun
by noolite infirst post here, thought i'd start off with a news article from today (i used to live in tpa area, btw).
man accused of threatening religious workers.
spring hill deputies say two jehovah witnesses' quest for spreading peace and religion was interrupted by a man who pointed a gun and cursed at them as they approached his home.rudolf hellmold, 52, was charged with aggravated assault after deputies say he pointed a small silver handgun at the two victims while they were going door-to-door, according to a hernando county sheriff's office report.. the report showed that one of the victims told deputies that as they approached the house at 1355 osowaw boulevard, hellmold stood at a window near the front door, displayed a gun and yelled, "you (expletive) jehovah witnesses get the (expletive) off my property!".

That will just feed their persecution complex. Jesus said his followers would be objects of hatred, yada yada. I've never heard of JW's calling the cops on someone though. Doesn't he have a legal right to show them his gun and tell them to get the hell off his property?

Another 144,000 Question
by Cold Steel inokay, based on my reading, you're clearly better off being one of the 144,000. first, you get to reside in heaven, while everyone else is consigned to living on earth.
second, a spirit (in wts eschatology) is much better than being a flesh and bone human.
they can fly, read in a darkened room and they get to be with god for eternity.. but what of everyone else?

So for dead ones with spiritual, heavenly hopes and for dead ones with earthly Paradisaic hopes the rule enunciated by Jesus Christ stands unaltered: “In the resurrection neither do men marry nor are women given in marriage, but are as angels in heaven.” (Matt. 22:30) At the flood of Noah’s day angels were punished for entering into marriage, which in that instance was with the daughters of men because they were so lovely-looking. (Gen. 6:1-4) In the resurrection of the “other sheep” on earth, no former married person will have occasion to envy another former married person, as would be the case if this latter one got back his former marriage mate who had remained single, whereas the envious marriage mate does not get back his former partner because this partner remarried and survived Armageddon with his new marriage mate. What the resurrection promises men is, not remarriage, but reliving, and this under God’s kingdom by Christ. Is that not something satisfying? Has anyone a right to demand more through Christ’s sacrifice? Christ died for you, not to marry, but to live! Let us not be swayed or overcome by sentimentalism or emotionalism
This was the understanding but a later watchtower magazine states that they are only taking an educated guess on this matter.
Hmm...well, marriage, divorce, and previous death would complicate things after the resurrection, no doubt. It's a difficult scripture to understand, for me. The general idea I get is that marriage wouldn't be the utmost concern after the resurrection. I think Jesus' point was the Sadducces. Here's the problem I'm having with this: if I were to die before Armaggedon and be resurrected into a material, fleshly body; I think I'd really miss sex. The impulse is a natural part of the body, reproduction. Now maybe God would get rid of that impulse, I don't know.
I keep running into problems with the idea of an earthly resurrection. Now if the resurrection is heavenly, we receive spirit bodies, this scripture makes a lot more sense to me.
