Collections are one thing, specific and regular donations are another. It could be that tax laws are being bent. Render onto Caesar, and all that stuff ....

Here in the UK - a £3 fee charged for going to JW assembly hall
by James_Slash ini cannot speak for other countries, but it has become evident of late that more and more talks are being done by presiding overseers at kh's (especially in the west midlands) and they are making it quite clear that they are expecting 3 from every publisher (per day) who visit the dudley assembly hall, west midlands to contribute towards the upkeep of it.. the quote from the po's who have done this talk have said that "it is expected that each publisher will put 3 into the box on each day".. what do you think of that then?
as the world hits an economic breakdown the jw's seem to maximising their income from struggling families.. dudley assembly hall holds about 600-700 people.
i'm sure people are capable of doing the maths.. so much for voluntary contributions !!

Secrets to the exit -- so long Watchtower!
by Marie B. Paraison ini agree that truth is progressivewe need more time to understand.
this is the excuse given by the members of the governing body for the changes in their understanding.
should not this latitude be granted the other religions?

Is it chilly in here, or is it me?
Marie and SA, I'm a grumpy old man who also happens to be an atheist. Just because I don't agree with you doesn't mean I don't like you. I am sure you are both wonderful people and besides there are very few people in this world I genuinely dislike. Please don't take it personally. But if you want to prosthelytize in a public forum you should expect someone like me in the audience who has heard it all before, has spent the requisite decades doing the homework and who isn't buying it anymore.
Have a happy day.

Though the truth is – every religion has some truth. This is what makes searching for truth more intriguing and makes life more interesting.
It is clear from your post, Marie, that you are as blind to truth as the people you criticize. If you search for truth where there are only lies then the very best you will find are lies that sound like truth. I think, to borrow a famous line from the ficticious Col. Jessep (yes, I like movies) "You can't handle the truth" because you are so very far away from it.

"So I'm guessing you celebrate birthday's now. How sad! :("
cantleave's answer is the best, so far, although a much more succinct ":-D" or ":-)" might work, too.

What does God need with a Starship or with the F&DS?
by moshe init's funny how asking a simple question brings down a religious house of cards- just why does god need the f&ds, the gb, or even any puny humans to accomplish his will?
jws refuse to ask a simple question, like, where can i find just one genuine member of the f&ds?
they know that asking questions of the wt religion means retribution from the stooge elders who mete out their official punishment to doubters of the gb.

Brilliant.
(not the acting, which sucks, but the OP. I have seen the odd television production for which the producers have convinced really powerful people to participate - like Obama on the Daily Show. I wonder how much they paid Jehovah to do this one? He was obviously in his OT personna. Testy and beligerent. Although I can understand Him getting pissed off at James T. Kirk. Kirk just has a habit of getting into your face, sometimes. Plus his real world personna acts about as well as Kevin Costner, and that's enough to get anyone off in a bad mood, even God. Yeah.)
Entertaining, moshe.

I don't buy lotto tickets. They're a tax on stupidity, as one Italian politician termed it. Poker isn't gambling. It's a game of understanding human nature, body language, facial expressions and tonality of voice. You seem to have a pretty well developed bullshit detector. You should try poker, if only for chips or pennies. Fascinating what you learn about people.
