I concur with the building consensus. No, you did not. They got what they wanted and you merely facilitated, for which I am sure they were grateful at the time. But the grass is always greener and in the end it's you who are responsible for your choices in life and they are ultimately responsible for theirs. Still, I wonder how XJWs live with themselves sometimes when they think about all the people they brought into the Watchtower before they learned the truth about The Truth and then exited themselves. The people who were brought in are the ones who were really thrown under the bus.

Did I throw these guys under the bus?
by burnedout inover a year ago i knew i had to resign my position as elder because of many reasons.
i was the youngest elder being 40ish... and there had already been some resistance to my wanting to cut back on the many responsiblities i had.
i knew that to make it easier for me to resign, there had to be some replacement.

Just heard JW's make 750 million a month!
by foolsparadise inmy friend who still goes to meetings to please family said he was listening to cnbc today.. he said the government is talking about taxing religions.
the one religion they did focus on was the jehovahs witnesses.
supposedly they said why is this group making this much tax free money and they never pay any clergy or help members with any finances.. maybe they will realize it is just a publishing company using people for free labor to get richer and richer.

The 2001 figure was $950 million
cite verifiable sources, please.
Are they really a genuine charity?
They are genuine bullshit, that I know for sure. But a charity? To whom? As I understand it, the Watchtower was one of the first into Haiti after the earthquake, but they only looked after their own. In any event, do you think they'd just help some worldly out without leaving a tract or two behind?

Unrest in the Governing Body
by JWFreak inone of the many questions that i am asked is what are the current gb members like, who are the hardliners and who are more moderate.. because of my previous job, at a european bethel, i had dealings with most of them with the exception of sam herd.. these are my observations of my conversations with them and how others who had dealings with them.. other ex bethelites may have contrary views to mine, but i would be surprised.. i had spent a lot of time with splane, lett and morris.
hardliners.
david splane, without doubt the one who commands the most respect and attention.

godrulz, how many threads are you going to hijack? don't you get that nobody want's to read your spam?
And when you still read it, you encourage more. I have stopped reading this poster's contributions. Period. When I see this poster's name appear in posts made by others, I stop reading those posts, too, although I will continue to read whatever else the poster will have to say, unless it consistently approaches the quality of the stuff posted by individuals like godrulz, then I will pointedly ignore them, too. If you want people like this to go away, just ignore them.

Is this weird? JW FB comments
by serenitynow! inparadise-related greetings and meetup plans.
on a couple of jw fb sites, people often say things like "i'll see you in paradise," or "i'm going to travel and meet all of you guys in paradise and hang out with your lions.
" and on the jw news, library, etc.

I sincerely doubt the 750 number. That kind of revenue requires enormous infrastructure and I just don't see it. Ray Franz cites a 1978 financial report that pegged the assets of the WTBTS at $332 million, mostly in property. A public corporation that had those kind of assets 30+ years ago and performed about as well as the economy has grown, as measured for example by the rise in the S&P, should be worth about $4 billion today. The $750 million number would represent a gross return of over 200% on equity alone (ROE). But capital employed by the Watchtower is going to be a lot less than what it has tied up in equity. Return on capital employed (RCE) would have to be probably 2000 %/pa and that is just not realistic at all.
By all means, tax the religions, but does the US have the will to do it? I doubt it. It won't happen here in Canada, either. Our current Prime Minister (Stephen Harper) describes his party's values as Canada's values. He controls things with an iron fist, elminating anyone who does not agree with him. His party's values are his values, and he is a fundamentalist Christian. He is about to lower corporate income taxes in Canada and cut spending in most social sectors. He has cut off funding of women's groups and the arts, is building more and bigger prisons and intends to recriminalise cannabis use. If he could get away with it, he'd reverse the decriminalisation of homosexuality brought about by his visionary predecessor Pierre Trudeau more than 40 years ago. He will do all these things but he will not, ever, tax the churches unless he can preferentially tax the ones he doesn't like, and that would be difficult for even him to do without getting turfed out on his righteous ass.

Belief is Irrelevant to Watchtower Leadership
by daniel-p inthe more i see what watchtower leadership does, the more i think doctrine matters less and less.
it used to be you had all these people in leadership positions constantly pondering the big questions.
watchtower articles routinely delved into complicated explanations of doctrine.

Agreed. When pressed about the obvious wrongness of shunning her nephew, my wife replied that obedience is most important to her and other Witnesses. Right out of her mouth. No ambiguity. Control, control, control. Control their actions, control their thoughts, control their lives and add to whatever numbers are important to the leadership. Numbers of publishers, numbers of baptisms, numbers of hours in FS and, most importantly, numbers of dollars to the bottom line.

I'm an evil athiest, haven't been to a DC since 1975 (it was a pretty exciting one, actually, because everyone was pumped about, well, 1975) but my wife is at her DC at the moment. So, does that qualify me for a PM to sate my curiousity?
By the way, it is encouraging that the WTBTS has a number of subversive elements operating within its hallowed walls. I'm thinking specifically about the AJWRB, but I know from reading the posts in here that there are others. You have my unbridled emotional support. If you can't undermine the Watchtower from without, do it from within.

Personality test based on how you listen to music
by DJPoetech ini designed a 4 question personality test that looks at the simple ways you listen to music.. it can determine from those questions your 4 letter mbti code.
from there i included some fun links that goes deeper into the personality traits.. i have yet to try this in a larger forum such as this but was wondering the results and if i can develope this.. .
it may prove useful in my eventual psychology studies.. just follow the link.

It came out ISTP. About 50% right. I've been borderline E/INTJ, mostly I, for 20 years. I retake the test every couple of years and it never changes.
Back to the drawing board, DJPoetech.
