Is "Kingdumb Hall" really an offensive term?
by cyberjesus inif a friend of mine starts to say things out of emotion and i call him "schizophrenic" then that might be an insult.
however if he is having auditory hallucinations, paranoid or bizarre delusions, or disorganized speech and thinking then that word becomes a description of his situation.. now i ask you.
does the attendance to the kh promote intelligence?

My Mom is intelligent...but she is a JW, therefore she is not that intelligent.... Can you REASON with them? Can they TEST their knowldege? Can they hear condratictory staments? Can they have an honest debate open to the idea of being wrong? Can they admin they dont have ceirtainty? So where exactly is the intelligence?
You are confusing credulity with intellect, cyberjesus. Atheism is not a new concept, although it has been bolstered considerably by men like Einstein and Darwin. However, arguably the most intelligent individual to have lived, Sir Isaac Newton, was also a theist when many of his contemporaries were not, although few would admit it at the time. Newton also had an irrational belief in alchemy which most of his contemporaries judged laughable, but the mathematics and physics he figured out contributed more to the evolution of human intelligence than anything else to date. Anything else. If you really want to understand how an intelligent person comes to believe what is not rational, you're going to need to find a different way.

Goes to our individual motives for being here, I suppose, MJNM. Qadhafi's going to either blow his own brains out or get lynched. He is an evil individual and is the ultimate focus of the hatred of the people he has oppressed. The individual Jehovah's Witness is not in the same league, although the organisation that exercises so much control over him may very well be.
My wife's a Jehovah's Witness. An intelligent Jehovah's Witness. She skipped two grades, in fact, one in elementary school and the other in high school. She was the youngest student in the University we both attended and she graduated cum laude with an honours bachelor's degree. In terms of intelligence, she's 95th percentile. She's no witless, as much as she has been hoodwinked by the WTBTS. If you were to speak to her with mockery, she could if she wished cut you into ribbons and you wouldn't even notice. You would not experience catharsis.

I wasn't familiar with the Dunning-Kruger effect, so thank you for contributing to my ongoing education, SBC. I visited the link provided and left with a kernel of a proposition that all of us suffer from it. The older I get and the more I learn the more I realise how ignorant I am.

The difficulty with bluntly saying how you perceive things, however honest you're being, is it greatly lowers your odds of prevailing in a discussion. Again, what is your purpose? Ignorant people do not know they are ignorant. Why? Because they are ignorant. If you tell them they are ignorant, they will be offended, they will not believe you, they will disrespect you and what you are saying and they will not be the least bit inclined to listen. If you tell them that you respect them as individuals but perceive problems with some of what they are representing you just might get them to listen to you. My perspective on how best to undermine the Watchtower is still evolving, but I long ago decided that attacking the individual Jehovah's Witness was not going to be effective.

So is this an insult? : "Jehovahs Witness are ignorant, irrational, superstitious and close minded people"
Substitute any discrete group of people for "Jehovah's Witnesses" and you will answer your own question. You could, for example, substitute the word "Americans" on the basis that Americans constitute the most religious group of people on earth. Do you think Americans would find the statement insulting?

How you use language comes down to what you want to accomplish. You can use words to inflict injury, to enrage, to badger, to humiliate, to denigrate, to frighten, to punish, to educate, to encourage, to comfort, to praise and to persuade. What message do you want to convey?

The use of the pun, changing the word to convey an insult, is not especially clever. There is nothing offensive about being called a mexican. But if someone changed the label in such a way as to denigrate it (I'll leave that to your own imagination) you would not be so amused.
