  An Interesting Question for the Board...

  i just saw this done on a tv show and was intrigued by the answers (almost unanimously yes).

  "yes, but my husband is about to retire so i'm going to have to start telling him the truth!".

  "ohhh, yes - if my husband knew the truth he'd need medication!".

  We have both been through the years of raising a big family on a very limited budget. We had to use food stamps in the '70's. Grateful for the assistance. When we got out of the dead end JW mindset (that we would be saved by Armageddon at any moment), in the early 80's, we both worked hard to be independent.

  For many years now we operate on a budget that we both honor and discuss before we spend any serious money.

  We recently splurged on an ipad for her birthday and a Kindle Fire for me, an early xmas present. We discussed and shopped for several weeks before we did it.

  If we don't live too long, we'll be fine.

  Looking Back, Did You Notice Many JWs Had Drinking, Drug or Mental Issues?

  as an elder, i saw many people that were affected by booze, drugs and mental health issues.

  a lot of witnesses fought depression and turned to other things when they realized they couldn't keep up the pace and find inner happiness with what they did do..

  so.....a jw friend brought me a $12.00 cuban cigar.. what's the big deal??

  as far as i can tell, yuch!.

  When my work took me to Canada I could and did buy fresh Cuban cigars. They were good and I would bring some back for friends, But I am not a cigar 'gourmet'. I am just as happy with a middle priced California brandy (Paul Masson) and a nice non-cuban cigar when the mood takes me.

  we might be starting into a period where marijuana and guns are moving in opposite directions legislatively... and thats ok by me..

  As usual, Besty, we are in complete agreement. I must ask, though, how do you reconcile the carbon emissions of cannabis with GW ?

  Christmas Plans

  so what are your plans for christmas.. this year i am not spending it with my entire family.

  some of them are doing their own thing/have their own plans, which i don't mind as sometimes those paticular family members can be straining.. so it will be spent with my mum, brother, father, some family friends and a couple of "strays" (people that don't have family to spend christmas with so we invite them over).

  there will be a light breakfast shared and gifts opened in the morning.. i'm cooking up a feast:.

  You've all seen the TV spots. A non-actor says "My name is Doug, and I have mesothelioma" You are then encouraged to contact the Law firm that sponsors the ad if you have ever worked in any environment that involved handling asbestos.

  Meso. is a form of lung desease that has been tied to past exposure to asbestos. It was the subject of dozens of lawsuits over 30 years ago. Apparently it still has life.

  It has become a cash cow to the tort law industry.

  Recently a judge threw out a bunch of cases as "frivilous". This can involve fines and costs against those bringing such suits.

  If you have any interest in the tort law racket a must read is John Grishams novel "King of Torts". You will learn a lot.

  Anyone else like to sew??? What kind of Machine do you use???

  i'm ready to get my sewing machines out of hiding, and will be sewing once again this winter.

  i'd like to start quilting again, as it is fun to do, eases stress, and is healthier than just sitting in front of the tv.

  i have even designed a few items of clothing in the past that i have sold, although i am by no means another madeleine vionet or issey miyake-lol.. i've always liked sewing machines even as a child (much to the dismay of my parents-lol), and there are a couple favorites that i have had for many years.

  The man walked into the department store and asked for the notions department. He was sent to the third floor, but got off the elevator on the fourth floor, womens foundations. He wandered around, confused, before asking a young woman at the brassiere counter, "excuse me ma'am, do you have notions?"

  "Sure", she giggled, "but I try to keep them under control until after work".

  it is snowing here.

  we have our 2.5 yr old grand baby, emma, with us for a few days.

  it was nap time so i wrapped her up in a fleece and we sat down in my big rocker/recliner.

  It is snowing here. We have our 2.5 yr old grand baby, Emma, with us for a few days. It was nap time so I wrapped her up in a fleece and we sat down in my big rocker/recliner. She had her binky and I was humming lullabies to her while we gently rocked. She reached up and began rubbing my earlobe between her thumb and forefinger. Next thing I know I am waking up and she has gone into the pantry and helped herself to a box a Cheezits.

  She got G pa down for his nap and decided to have a treat!
