Who designed cancer?
by snare&racket inone thing i regret, is not listening to the questions in my head whilst a jw.
one i didn't ask until years after leaving was....who designed disease?
of course the first thing to realise is the complexity of disease, the histology, pathology and aetiology.

Unfortunately, God created lots of things that kill people. Volcanoes, Snakes, Poisonous mushrooms etc....
Good job he's a figment of our imagination. Otherwise, we might call him a wicked bastard.

Bible Students - have you spoken with them or attended their meetings?
by JWStruggle inthe bible students are very friendly and loving people and i recently attended a convention of theirs.. i was wondering if many on here have had dealings with them?
i do not think i am ready to join any organized religious group ever again, but they are welcoming and sincere and i do like many of the things russell taught.
he certainly wouldn't have stood for what rutherford did to the wtbts.. .

We had some in our territory. I found some of their teachings a bit crazy, and used to walk away from the door scratching my head. They used to be very open and eager to discuss doctrine and prophecy. Our elders used to tell us to avoid talking to them, but I used to think they've got just as much right to the message as everybody else, etc... I honestly thought there weren't very many of them left, as they were all quite old.
You went to a convention???
Ouch.

Well, it's official, I am a rabid, mentally diseased Apostate!
by serenitynow! inso an apostabuddy wanted to stage a silent protest at the assembly hall where she was baptized.
we went today.
the plan was to wear these apostate t-shirts that had stuff printed on them about thinking for yourself, and a bunch of websites.

Love it. Calm dignified protest. Not making a fuss will impress on dubs minds more than anything.

Got my reply from the UK charities commission...
by oldlightnewshite ingot my reply from the uk charities commission.
i'm not a happy bunny.
basically, they're saying that any crackpot organization can get charitable status as long as they're a religion.

Hi, Yeah, I did point out to them that the Watchtower doesn't actually do any charitable works, in the way that most people would define it. I said that their fundraising paid for the printing of cultish drivel. I said that they don't actually do any good works in the community, other than recruitment, which isn't a good work, as it benefits nobody.
I suppose I could start a religion and call it 'Muslim brotherhood against the Kuffar infidel'. By their definition, the mere fact that it would obviously be a religious organization would merit tax breaks. Good old Blighty, eh?
My fellow apostates, we need to be more vocal. Recently in Italy a group of ex-Jovos demonstrated outside parliament complaining about the treatment of disfellowshipped ones, and that the WTB$ splits families.
Maybe most ex-JWs just feel idiots publicly proclaiming that they used to be in a messed-up cult...

Got my reply from the UK Charities Commission. I'm not a happy bunny. Basically, they're saying that any crackpot organization can get charitable status as long as they're a religion. We should get a charity going which helps dubs get out of their cult. As long as we disguise it by saying we pray to some imaginary god, we're quids in.
Dear Mr Oldlightnewshite
Thank you for your email dated 28 September. I understand that you have concerns about recent publication by the charity, and the charitable status of the organisation. In response I have first set out our role, and then addressed the issues you have highlighted.
The Commission’s role
The Charity Commission is the independent regulator of charities in England and Wales. Our role and regulatory remit is to work with charities to ensure that they are accountable, well run and meet their legal obligations under charity law. As a regulator, we have a duty to consider concerns brought to our attention.
However, our statutory powers of intervention are limited and trustees have a broad discretion to manage their charity as they see fit, within charity law and the charity’s own governing document. Additionally, we would not take up complaints where it would be disproportionate to do so, or where another regulator or authority is better placed to examine the concerns.Watchtower article
The Commission is not able to become involved in matters that are outside the scope of our regulatory responsibilities. This includes accusations of possible criminal activity which fall to the Police to deal with.
I understand that Hampshire Police are considering this incident (as reported in the article you linked from The Independent). As the matter had been reported to, and is being considered by, the Police it is not currently a matter for us. Our role is limited to ensuring that charity trustees properly discharge their legal duties and responsibilities.
We will need to wait for the Police to conduct any investigation and will therefore not be contacting the charity at this time. If, following any Police investigation there is evidence of a breach of charity law or any evidence that charity trustees have failed to properly discharge their legal duties and responsibilities we will consider what action, if any, to take and would of course treat any such breaches very seriously.
Charitable status
For an organisation to be a charity two requirements must be met:
· It must have objects that are exclusively charitable for the public benefit; and,
· It must be based in England and Wales.
The charity is based in England and Wales, with its office in London.
The object of the charity is: “To advance the Christian religion as practised by the body of Christian persons known as Jehovah’s Witnesses…”. This object is wholly charitable and falls under the charitable purpose of the advancement of religion. Further information about this purpose can be seen on our website.
In summary the organisation is legally a charity as it continues to meet the requirements of charitable status. Further details regarding these requirements can be seen in our guidance.
Further information
I hope that I have explained why the organisation is legally a charity, and that we are not the body responsible for considering the published article at this time.
Further information about the Commission’s complaints process, including detail on what complaints we can and cannot deal with, can be found in our complaints guidance available here:
http://www.charity-commission.gov.uk/Publications/cc47.aspx .

Dumb ass family moved in next door with autistic kid JEHOOVER HELP!
by Witness 007 infirst off i have no problem with the kid......his mum though is a dumb sh#t country trash kinda gal, just moved in.
right now i'm in my bedroom being blasted by 80's music.
she put a stereo in her tin shed which is next to our bedrooms, so her autistic kid can play loud music...or should i say, same f#cking song over and over again.

Autistics like routine. Just get him into a new one. Give him a tape of music you like, then sit with him and listen to it, then give him something nice like a bar of chocolate. Associate the cool new music with something pleasurable like chocolate. Do this a few days on the trot and you're laughing. My mate works in an autistic shelter. They will stove your skull in if they get frosties for breakfast, and not coco-pops like always.
Although, when you hear your fave music done to death, you might want to move.

Sky News emailed about UK charitable status
by cedars infollowing the recent breakthrough i have just sent the following email to sky news, expanding on the issue of the "mentally diseased" article to incorporate the issue of uk charitable status.
i feel this is a good angle to go at, because sky news tends to focus on uk economic policy issues quite extensively.
5 million per year in government gift aid being frittered away on a charity that condones breaking-up families and blocking medical treatment seems to me to be a newsworthy item.. here is the email.

I have emailed a complaint to the UK Charities Commission, basically challenging them to supply a single instance where the WT society acted like a charity. I told them that all money raised was used to print 'cultish drivel' and was not used to help anyone in any way.
C'mon chaps, let's all make our voice heard.
